The article focuses on the research conducted by researchers Chi-yuan Hsu and colleagues regarding the risk factors involved in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in Northern California. The study has indicated high rates of morbidity and mortality in the country and is forecasted to increase by 44% and 85% from 2000 to 2015. Researchers studied 177,570 from a large integrated health care delivery system in the state and found the importance of establishing risk factors for the illness, including male sex, older age, proteinuria, diabetes mellitus, lower educational attainment, high blood pressure, body mass index, and serum creatinine level.
