Abstract: The article compares three distinct healthcare systems (HCS) in North America, namely Department of Veterans Affairs HCS (VA HCS), US non-VA HCS and Canadian system, and determines treatment difference in cardiovascular outcomes by HCS. It mentions that the Clinical Outcomes Utilizing Revascularization and Aggressive Drug Evaluation (COURAGE) trial has similar baseline demographics within each HCS. The article concludes that the addition of percutaneous coronary intervention to optimal medical therapy did not improve five-year survival among the 3 HCS.
