Researchers from the University of Niigata in Japan conducted a study to determine the effectiveness of different criteria for predicting cardiovascular disease in individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS). The study analyzed data from a nationwide Japanese claims database and found that various criteria for MetS similarly predicted cardiovascular disease. However, the new criteria significantly reduced the number of high-risk individuals, particularly women, who were overlooked by the current criteria.
