The article reports on the intention of the Department of Conservation of New Zealand to examine the use of artificial insemination of kakapos during the breeding season in Codfish Island, New Zealand. It mentions that dominant male kakapos mate with more females than less dominant male. It means that the representation of genes in the gene pool of kakapo is distorted towards specific males. Therefore, the use of artificial insemination will increase the diversity of genes within the critically endangered species. Richard Henry has been chosen as the sperm donor.
