Elmira Savings Bank, will seek to boost its presence in the growing Ithaca, New York, mortgage loan market when it opens an office there in mid-August. Charter One Financial Inc. has entered into an agreement with Starbucks Coffee Co. under which Starbucks will open retail locations in two of its banking centers in Albany and Rochester, New York. The agreement also calls for future additional openings in the Charter One network. The Starbucks location will be integrated into the floor plan of the Charter One banking centers. Charter One's banking service provide a full range of deposit products including free checking, free business checking, free online banking and 24-hour ATM access. Charter One has $44 billion in total assets, making it one of the 25 largest bank-holding companies in the U.S.

New York State-based Commerce Bank, in keeping with its strategy of taking high-profile locations, has just signed a lease for 7,500 square feet of space at 155 Canal Street, on the northwest corner of Bowery, New York City, as of June 26, 2003. Canal Street space includes 5,000 square feet on the ground floor and 2,500 square feet on the second floor. The development also includes six stories of residential space and three other retail units, 3,000-square-foot and 2,500-square-foot portions on the mezzanine level and a 5,000-square-foot space on the lower level. The bank has at least five other deals pending in Manhattan, New York City region, with a particular focus on the financial district.
