Abstract

The article discusses the musical piece "An Outdoor Overture," composed by Aaron Copland for the High School of Music and Art in New York City. The first performance for the musical piece was on December 16-17, 1938 under the direction of Alexander Richter. Copland then conducted the band of Edwin Franco Goldman for the wind version of the musical piece in June 1942 in New York. Standard instrumentation except the tuba is used for the orchestral score which makes the musical piece clearer to read compared to the band score which has more transpositions as well as instruments.
