The article discusses the Islamic cultural center and prayer space project being advanced by real estate developer and philanthropist Sharif El-Gamal at an area near the World Trade Center in New York with an aim to showcase the true face of Islam to the American people. It cites that Islam became a symbol of terrorism in the U.S. following the attack by Arab terrorists in the country on September 11, 2012. To pursue the project, El-Gamal recruited Muslim spiritual leader Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, who founded the Cordoba Initiative in order to build cooperation and understanding among the people around the world.
