The present paper aims to consider both problems in a more explicit way. After having given some information on the data used, we will review the variables which, on a priori grounds, are supposed to be of relevance as independent variables in our analysis. This set of variables is first analysed on expected linear relationships by means of a factor analysis. The results of this analysis are used to indicate the most important variables to be used in a regression-analysis, as to reduce the impact of multicollinearity. The residuals of the regression-analysis have been tested on the presence of spatial autocorrelation. The parameter-estimates obtained make it possible to draw some conclusions concerning the relative importance of the independent variables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
