- Abstract
On the basis of clinical-epidemiological studies, the authors present data on the prevalence of the convulsive syndrome in children and on the characteristics of major clinical manifestations in patients with epileptic attacks: the premorbid state, age at the onset of the first paroxysms, pathomorphosis of epilepsies, type of the process development and therapeutic results. A high risk group of patients requiring appropriate preventive measures was identified. It was established that in most cases, epileptic attacks occurred in the presence of normal psychic and physical development. In 1/3 of all cases the disease first manifested itself in children under 3 years. Attention is given to the fact that the last decade has seen a decline in malignant forms with a serial course of disease. The authors discuss the results of therapeutic work and the questions of social adaptation in children suffering from epilepsy in Moscow. It is demonstrated that definite successes achieved by child psychiatric services of the city in treating epilepsy and epileptic syndromes of variable nature are consequent on modern diagnosis, proper organization of the therapeutic process as well as on the prophylaxis of exacerbation and recurrences of the disease.
