The article describes the Cool Cosmos after-school astronomy project conducted at the African-Centered College Preparatory Academy in Kansas City, Missouri, which allowed students to use image processing software to manipulate images of galaxies. The U.S. Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) educational standards, the use of images from a remote robotic telescope, and celestial events in 2013 are discussed, as well as observations of Mars, Venus, and Mercury.
