This article discusses the conversion of Saint Paul, Minnesota wastewater treatment plant to a Biological Phosphorus Removal system without the need for chemicals. According to the authors, they completed the conversion in two phases, a two year partial conversion with baffles installation and testing, followed by full-scale conversion. They also added fixed suction headers to remove solids and return activated sludge boxes. They simplified the process by combining two liquid treatment trains and switched to one seasonal operating mode.
