The article aims to analyze the dimensions of training and professional practice of the social worker in the contemporary context, bringing reflections built from the doctoral thesis presented at the Graduate Program in Social Work UNESP/Campus of Franca/SP (Brazil), entitled: "The professional formation in Social Work through Distance Education: a historical-critical analysis based on the reality of Minas Gerais ", which proposed to reflect on and problematize aspects of the formation in Social Service carried out through distance learning strategies (EaD). This theoretical essay brings some indications about the reorganization of capital to hide its (structural) crisis, having as a premise the centrality of work as a dimension of human and social life and the unfoldings in the social worker's training and work. It also seeks approaches to understanding the challenges of training and professional practice in times of economic and sanitary crisis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
