Abstract

Nanotechnology has rapidly advanced over the recent past. Top -down and bottom-up approaches are the two major processes used to synthesize nanoparticles. Most of chemical and physical methods of nanoparticle synthesis ar e time consuming and costly. Most methods require high temperatures, vacuum conditions or harsh chemicals which may have adverse effects on involved persons. In recent years, researchers have shown immense interest in the environment - friendly green synthesis of nanoparticles. Honey mediated green synthesis is a relatively novel green synthesis method that has been used in recent years to synthesize metal nanoparticles. Honey -mediated green synthesis of nanoparticles is a simple, rapid, cost-effective, biocompatible, reproducible, and safe method. In the present work, we present the sunlight - induced green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using honey from aqueous silver nitrate. We studied the effect of light intensity on the synthesis of silver nanoparticles and also analyzed the growth of the nanoparticles. Abstract

• Light scattering and absorption in metallic nanoparticles are studied with Mie theory. • A TMM based analytical model for power transfer from nanoparticle layer into a solar cell absorber is developed. • Metal nanoparticles with an absorber layer is studied. • Al-nanoparticles based proposed structure demonstrates higher power transfer than Ag-, Au-, and Cu-nanoparticles. • Au-, and Cu-nanoparticles show high backscattering in visible region. Metallic nanoparticles scatter sun light efficiently at resonance wavelength where the scattering and absorption in the nanoparticles are highly influenced by shape, size, material composition, host medium, and volume fraction of the nanoparticles in the host medium. We present transfer matrix method and Mie theory based a modified analytical model to optimize the scattering property of nanoparticles and to simulate power transfer from the metallic nanoparticles (Ag, Au, Cu, and Al) layer into an absorber layer (n -GaAs). We compare the performance of nanoparticles with bare n -GaAs layer. We found that Al-nanoparticles based structures show higher power transfer in the absorber layer than Ag, Au, and Cu nanoparticles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Time-resolved laser-induced incandescence (TiRe-LII) is increasingly being used to characterize non-carbonaceous nanoparticles. However, there exist several measured phenomena, particularly on metal nanoparticles, that cannot be explained using traditional models. This paper shows that some of these phenomena may be due to errors caused by the Rayleigh approximation of Mie theory, which is a standard approach for modeling the spectral absorption of carbonaceous nanoparticles but is generally invalid for metal nanoparticles. Other measurement phenomena can be explained by combining Mie theory with a polydisperse particle size distribution or by considering the change in the refractive index as the nanoparticles melt. Also, the effect of the nanoparticle charge on optical properties is investigated and is found to have a negligible effect on the TiRe-LII model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
