Abstract

The article describes the infection control program of 70 hospitals in Michigan called Keystone: ICU, which is coordinated by the nonprofit Michigan Health and Hospital Association Keystone Center for Patient Safety and Quality. The central objective of the program is to reduce infection rates in the intensive care units of hospitals. One goal of the program is to reduce intravenous catheter-related bloodstream infections through several changes in processes.
