At the University of Michigan Medical Center, Michigan, an effort to ensure, for patients safety and comfort, especially those who are getting treatment by percutaneous nephrolithotomy, the urology stone service of the center hired a clinical care coordinator to coordinate all aspects of the program and to care for and monitor patients during the procedure. This has turned into a cost savings process for patients because they do not incur the expenses of either operating room or anesthesia services. In addition, the program's current efficiency has also generated a greater market share for the institute.
