Since her first encounter with a blind child she once baby sit, she has become the founder and director of the Penrickton Nursery School for Visually Handicapped Children in Taylor, Michigan. It aims to save blind children from permanent consignment to homes for the hopeless. At present, Ricker is considered to be the major force in the field of educating blind children.
