The aim of this paper was to evaluate the psychometric properties and explore the factorial structure of a questionnaire on the family impact of drug use. An ex post facto investigation was carried out in which 76 relatives of addictive substances users in Mexico City participated. The results of the study showed adequate internal consistency indices for the questionnaire (α = .83), finding a structure of two factors called impact on functionality (α = .79) and concern for the user (α = .81). It was also possible to observe differences in the consumption impact scores according to the user's impact drug. It is concluded that the instrument is adequate to measure the impact of substance use in the family. The results are discussed in light of the literature on the subject and the limitations of the research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the present study was to explore to what extent personal variables contribute to academic achievement of preparatory school students. 1581 students, between 15 and 23 years of age, attending 9 campuses of a public preparatory school in Mexico City, participated in the study. They responded to several self-report questionnaires on self-esteem, assertiveness, school adjustment, motivation, study behavior and substance use. Regression analysis provided information on the relative contribution of motivation, study skills and substance use on academic achievement, which was based on the students' GPA. Also, gender differences were found on several dimensions, showing girls better academic achievement, school adjustment, motivation, study skills and poorer self-esteem than boys. This paper presents results of the information Reporting System on Drugs, which describe the trends of cocaine use for 1987-2003 among users between 15 and 24 years old in Mexico City. It also describes the results of the evaluation carried out by the IRSD in June 2003 which include the sociodemographic characteristics of users, pattern of use, associated problems and slang words used to refer to this substance, according to the reports of the evaluated cases.
