Research on social conflict has focused on the social sphere (from Sociology and Antropology) and environmental (with political Ecology and Ecological Economics), leaving aside broader processes, such as territorial reconfigurations. This article addresses socio- territorial conflictivity from the geographical discipline. It's possible to demonstrate the relevance of the conceptual tools of Geography in the field of social conflicts, taking as a study case the territorial reconfiguration of the state of Quintana Roo, México, through its socio- historical conformation. In this context are exposed the conflicts that are currently generated by the confrontation between social agents who fight for tourism development and for the nature conservation. The problem is approached from the qualitative methodology and the bibliographic and documentary review. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
