Since its official consolidation like a scientific discipline, Mexican archaeology has been distinguished for giving priority to protect the monumental archaeological heritage from an ethical perspective determined by nationalist precepts used by the Mexican State; through INAH, INBA and other cultural institutions, in its historical and politic legitimation process. This position, in the main, has determinated archaeological practices to a whole of actions focused in the safeguard of a very specifical group of archaeological assets, leaving off scientific research, and so contribute to the destruction of several archaeological sites. Into this paradox, the patrimonial zeal of Mexican archaeology has resulted in its incapacity to protect the archaeological heritage. This situation has brought like consecuence a so very serious disciplinar tardiness that today, Mexican archaeology finds more and more difficulty for justify its actions socialy. In this situation, this work proposes to separate mexican archaeology from its institutional subordination for, like a real scientific discipline, it could join to academic institutions for doing scientific research and heritage protection in a more effective way.
