The science curriculum activities presented in this guide were developed as one component of a total career education demonstration project for Appalachian Maryland, and are intended for use as supplements to the total middle or junior high school curriculum. Introductory material lists career education concepts and outlines career and occupational development objectives. The body of the guide consists of the following sixteen science units: astronomy, chemistry, communications, ecology, energy (electricity), energy (heat), energy (nuclear), energy (sound), fluid pressure, geology, living things (general), living things (plant life), living things (animal life), living things (structures and functions of man), simple machines, and weather. Each unit relates career education activities to one or more concepts within the specific unit area. Career education activities are identified according to type of activity (e.g., research, field trip, puzzle, role play, experiment, report). Introductory material lists career education concepts and outlines career and occupational development objectives. The body of the guide consists of (1) three units--images and things, psychology, and man as a group member--relating career education activities to one or more specific concepts within each unit and (2) seven art activities (e.g., designing a button, designing and making business cards, photography, art matrix, word scramble, occupations), with each activity including the learning outcome, materials needed, and a description of the activity. The body of the guide consists of sixteen mathematics units covering the following areas: whole numbers, numeral systems, fractions, decimals, ratios and proportions, percent, integers, graphing, plane and solid geometry, measurement, finding the perimeter, finding areas, computing volume, the metric system, story problems, and computing probability. Each unit relates career education activities to one or more concepts within the unit area. Career education activities are identified according to type of activity (e.g., student project, research, mathematical problems, discussion, resource materials). The social studies curriculum activities presented in this guide were developed as one component of a total career education demonstration project for Appalachian Maryland, and are intended for use as supplements to the total middle or junior high school curriculum. Introductory material lists career education concepts and outlines career and occupational development objectives. The body of the guide consists of the following six social science units: anthropology/psychology, geography, history, political science (government), economics, and sociology. Each unit relates career education activities to one or more concepts within the specific subject area. Career education activities are identified according to type of activity (e.g., research, puzzle, map, game, survey, class discussion, field trip).
