This article discusses political aspects and themes of identity in Maltese theater. The author notes how Malta's autonomy has affected Maltese drama and discusses the history of Maltese theater, including its role as an element of cultural celebrations such as Carnival and how European influence and British colonialism introduced theater to Malta.
