Globalization, rapid technological advancement, and a dynamic market environment make organizations need to find effective ways to escalate their organizational performance. Anchored on the resource-based view (RBV) theory, this study investigates the impact of organizational innovation, knowledge management capabilities, and organizational learning on organizational performance in the Malaysian biomass industry. More importantly, this study also examines the moderating effect of collaborative knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) on organizational performance. This study employed census sampling and collected 130 samples. Cross-sectional data were collected using a structured questionnaire and tested using partial least square-structural equation modelling. Subsequently, the assessments of the reflective measurement model, structural model, reliability and validity were conducted. This study found that organizational learning is the most critical factor affecting organizational performance, followed by knowledge management capabilities and organizational innovation. Collaborative KSAs were found to moderate the relationship between organizational learning and organizational innovation on organizational performance. However, no moderating effect was identified on the relationship between knowledge management capabilities and organizational performance.

This study investigates teachers' perceptions on PLC implementation within religious-based secondary schools in the context of Malaysia. Using a pragmatic mixed-method approach, quantitative data were obtained from 610 teachers about principals' implementation and support for PLC implementation. Then, 16 senior teachers who have successfully participated in PLC practices were interviewed. The study reveals that teachers in the religious-based public secondary schools felt satisfied with their principals' implementation of PLC practices. This study is one of few studies explored the practical and theoretical implications of improving principals' initiatives and their strategies which benefit PLC practices across religious-based secondary schools in Malaysia.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to determine the relationships between learning opportunities, person-organization fit, self-directedness career attitude and job hopping among generation Y employees in Malaysian small medium enterprise (SME) service sectors. Design/methodology/approach: Research data was gathered from a sample of 203 generation Y employees from SME service sectors in Malaysia. Partial least squares structural equation modelling is used to perform the data analysis in the present study. Findings: The results demonstrated that person-organization fit and self-directedness career attitude correlates significantly with job hopping among generation Y employees. However, there is no significant relationship between learning opportunities and job hopping. Research limitations/implications: This study provides an empirical framework for explaining the job hopping among generation Y employees in SME service based on the review of related careers. Originality/value: This study offers new insights into the predicting factors of job hopping among generation Y employees in the Malaysian context specifically.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to validate an instrument for the Ghoshal and Bartlett model and operationalize its four attributes into a multidimensionality instrument questionnaire. This study operationalizes the four attributes, namely, discipline, support, trust and stretch, into a multidimensionality instrument questionnaire and tests this instrument's validation using data from 317 Malaysian Multimedia Super Corridor-status companies. Design/methodology/approach: This paper follows the procedures of building a scale measure. This was carried out in three main stages. The first stage is the generation of scale items. The purpose of this stage is to identify and analyze items based on intensive literature review. The second stage is the assessment of face validity to ensure the correspondence between the individual items and the constructs intended to measure. The final stage is the statistical validation, which includes the assessment of validity and reliability of the introduced instrument. Findings: The paper introduces 23 multidimensional questionnaire items, which contribute to organizational context dimensions. The statistical analysis that followed the conceptual development shows that the presented instrument has good psychometric properties. The validity and reliability of the scale were presented and discussed. Research limitations/implications: This paper suggests that these organizational context dimensions can be investigated with a high degree of confidence, especially when applied to organizations with different climate. To improve the robustness of the model, additional testing in different contexts and cultures may be necessary. Future research may also test the validity of the instrument using larger sample data. Practical implications: The measure offers researchers a comprehensive and flexible approach to the assessment of organizational context and collective learning from a managerial action perspective. This measure may be useful for a broad range of research interests, enabling researchers to investigate some theoretical propositions related to managerial action, such as the relationship between organizational climate and organizational performance. The measure also helps to establish the relationship between organizational context and collective learning in the organization. Originality/value: This study helps to fill the gap in the development of the organizational climate through both conceptual and empirical work. There is therefore a need for a measured, testable instrument to facilitate the empirical evaluation by the modern organization. This measure also contributes toward a better understanding of the managerial role. This managerial role has an imperative role in crafting the behavior of the organization's members, developing collective learning through distributed initiatives and mutual cooperation.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to develop a theoretical framework with which to investigate the inter-relationships between organizational learning culture, normative commitment and customer satisfaction through the use of empirical investigation across the service sector. Design/methodology/approach: A questionnaire-based survey was given to 297 Malaysian employees in different service organizations. Findings: First, instruments were checked regarding its uni-dimensionality by applying confirmatory factor analysis and then structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied to test the model. SEM confirms that organizational learning culture not only directly influences customer satisfaction, but also has an indirect influence through normative commitment. Research limitations/implications: The study selected samples from Malaysia, the results might be different if samples are taken from a geographically different area. Practical implications: The study has theoretical and practical implications for Human Resources managers to enhance employees' organizational commitment and customer satisfaction. Originality/value: The study highlights the importance of organizational learning culture in enhancing an employee's commitment towards their organizations and customer satisfaction.

Purpose: In this global era every organization aims to retain its key workers through salary, incentives, rewards and recognition. Organizational learning culture and leaders' support are amongst those aspects that have not been focused on extensively by organizations to retain their key employees. The present study aims to investigate the relationship between organizational learning culture, leader-member exchange quality, organizational commitment and turnover intention. Design/methodology/approach: A total of 415 employees working in Malaysian banks were approached on the basis of convenience sampling. Respondents were asked about leader-member exchange, organizational learning culture, organizational commitment and their intention to leave the organization through a questionnaire-based survey. Findings: Leader-member exchange, organizational learning culture and organizational commitment are found to correlate with each other. Furthermore, structural equation modeling confirms that organizational commitment performs the role of mediator between organizational learning culture and turnover intention. Research limitations/implications: HR managers should know the importance of leaders' support and learning environment, as these affect employees' level of commitment, which ultimately reduces their intentions to leave the organization. Limitations are also discussed. Originality/value: The current study elucidates the importance of learning culture for both employers and employees. It produces several unique findings and managerial takeaways for building a better organizational environment for employees to learn and stay with the organization.

Purpose: This paper aims to investigate to what extent knowledge inflows have taken place among professional Malaysian workforces and what the significant employee-related factors of knowledge transfer are. The development of technology parks at Technology Park Malaysia (TPM), Kulim High Tech Park (KHTP) and Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) is the focus of the discussion. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected through a self-administered survey to 300 local professionals; and 51 percent responded. A multiple regression was used to identify the significant determinants of transfer of knowledge. Findings: Knowledge transfer from foreign expatriate, parent and peer subsidiary companies to local professionals is at a moderate level. The overall multiple regression shows that workplace learning, personal time management, symptom of replication, adaptation and innovation, and work experience significantly contribute to the transferring of expertise to local professional employees. Research limitations/implications: The success of companies in today's competitive economy lies more in their knowledge and intellectual capital rather than other resources. Therefore, transferring new knowledge from foreign multinational corporations (MNCs) to local workforces is a basic step for future sustainable competitive advantage. Empirical evidence from previous research shows that information and communication technology can facilitate the transfer of knowledge. This is not covered in this study. Practical implications: Training mechanisms must be designed in such a way to promote in-plant training or employee attachment at the parent company or foreign peer subsidiaries. Originality/value: The paper shows that the success of knowledge transfer depends on the absorptive capacity, the organizational learning climate and the willingness of foreign expatriates in multinational corporations to transfer knowledge. This is an empirical indication of knowledge inflows within Malaysian technology parks, which is a relatively new topic to be explored.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the role of big data analytics capabilities (BDAC) in fostering organizational innovation capabilities and, consequently, in achieving economic, social and environmental sustainability. Design/methodology/approach: Through the lens of dynamic capability theory, this study surveyed 115 hotels using purposive sampling to gain in-depth insights regarding the factors affecting organizational sustainability in the hospitality industry. The data analysis was conducted using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings: The findings reported a substantial impact of seven core dimensions (i.e. technology, data, basic resources, technological skills, managerial skills, organizational learning and data-driven culture) in building BDAC among hotels. Moreover, BDAC was also revealed to significantly influence innovation capabilities, positively impacting all three sorts of sustainability performance. Innovation capability also mediated the relationship between BDAC and all sustainability factors. Practical implications: The findings will assist policymakers and practitioners in developing effective initiatives to enhance the adoption and implementation of data science and technologies, substantially contributing to the "National IR 4.0 Policy" and "Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint" and achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). Originality/value: The originality of this study is established by investigating the interplay between BDAC, innovation capability and sustainability performance, particularly in the context of the hotel industry, whereas the existing studies focus on exploring the advantages of BDA. The management of major crises, resilience, and organizational learning are important issues that have received scant attention in the event management industry, and limited information can be found in mainstream literature. The current research focuses on crisis management practices, resilience, and organizational learning of event planners and management companies during the health pandemic crisis. A total of 15 in-depth interviews were conducted with event planners and management companies in Malaysia. The results showed that there were five stages of encountering the pandemic: a) panic and anxiety, b) crumbling motivation and thwarting career moves, c) paralyzing decision-making processes, d) bleeding inwards and creating an uncertain and complex environment in the organization, and e) reconsidering business operation. Moreover, three resilience adaptation strategies (e.g., psychological, technological, and organizational resilience) were found. Event organizational learning in the form of knowledge management was another important practice during the pandemic crisis management. The study significantly contributes to literature, exploring the implication of organizational learning and resilience in event crisis management. The sample in this study was 112 respondents taken using the purposive sampling method with the Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis technique. Malaysian manufacturing firms play an important role in the country's social and economic development. However, the industry faces challenges in productivity and competitiveness due to rapid globalization and economic instabilities affecting countries worldwide. To address these challenges, technological capability has become an essential requirement for a firm's technological progress to remain sustainable and competitive. This study aims to identify factors that influence the technological capability of food manufacturing firms by using a questionnaire. Using IBM SPSS Statistics 27, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was employed to examine the dataset obtained from the survey and analyze the factors that contribute to a firm's technological capability. Overall, firms are influenced by knowledge management, organizational learning, and organizational innovation in their technological capability development. By understanding these factors, firms can develop their technological capability and further improve their productivity, ultimately achieving a sustainable competitive advantage in the market. Learning organizations are widely discussed in research on work organizations at the international level. However, research on learning organizations in law enforcement bodies such as the police force is limited. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between the learning organization and the attitude to transform among junior police officers (PRP) in the Kuala Lumpur contingent. This attempted to know the most significant dimension of learning organization among PRP of the KL contingent and to identify the level of the learning organization and the attitude to transform. In addition, this study was also conducted to determine the attitude to transform towards the transformation of PRP KL based on demographic factors such as gender, age, rank held, and period of service. This study focused on junior PDRM police officers in the Kuala Lumpur Contingent and adopted a survey. The research instrument is an online questionnaire that consists of three parts. Each section was developed to answer the research objectives. The results found that strategic leadership is the strongest predictor for learning organizations. The findings also indicated that other dimensions of a learning organization and the attitude to transform were moderate. In addition, the results of the study showed that demographic factors such as gender, age, position rank, and also the period of service demonstrated insignificant relationships with the attitude to transform. Finally, this study found a positive relationship between the learning dimensions and the attitude to transform. The District Transformation Program (DTP) under the 6th Shift aims to accelerate the improvement of school performance through a systematic program led by the District Education Office (PPD). This study aims to identify the level of change indicator in the PPDs, the relationship and contribution between strengthening processes, learning organizations with change indicators in PPDs. A total of 93 District Chief Education Officers were selected from all over Malaysia. Group sampling techniques and strata random sampling were used to determine the respondents. The results of the descriptive analysis show that the change indicators PPD in Malaysia are at a very high level where components of Activity (Mean = 4.68) and Output (Mean = 4.60). This indicates that the indicators for the activity component are well implemented to enable the output component indicators to be at a high level. Pearson's correlation analysis shows there are strong positive relationships between the three variables studied i.e. the strengthening process, learning organization and change indicator. Regression analysis found that there was a contribution of strengthening factor to learning organization and change indicators, as well as the contribution of learning organizational factors to change indicators. Multiple analysis show that out of the five principles, only two principles namely thinking system and personal mastery were found to contribute to the implementation of change management indicators in PPD. The implication, is that it can be use as a reference to the PPD in monitoring changes in the District Transformation Program that are implemented are on the right track through these indicators of change. Learning from mistakes plays an important role in employee development; however, such a learning scale has not yet been developed. The objective of this study was to develop and examine the psychometric properties of the Learning from Mistakes Climate Scale (LMCS) in Malaysia. A pool of items was first developed based on the literature, with an expert panel then convened to select items that met the definition of learning from mistake climate in the workplace, specifically in Malaysia. The experts agreed on 23 items to be rated. In total, 554 working adults with a mean age of 32.28 were then recruited for this study. The LMCS was administered at baseline and 10-14 days later as a retest: 468 participants took part in the retest study, a dropout rate of 15.52%. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the LMCS is a 17-item one-factor model. Validity, in its various forms, was supported, namely convergent validity, criterion validity, and predictive validity. Analysis also showed significant reliability, that is, test-retest reliability and in all intra-class correlations. The LMCS was found to be a valid and reliable instrument to assess the learning from mistake climate in Malaysia. This is the first scale in the organizational learning climate literature to integrate the mistake tolerance aspect. This instrument can assist in creating a psychologically safe work environment that helps to facilitate learning, especially in a highly hierarchical, collectivistic culture that is high in power distance. Since the pandemic has led towards a new norm in our daily lives, there is an urge to implement more technologybased teaching aids in school teaching and learning management. This is especially so for subjects that involve hands-on, like laboratory (lab) work. For this reason, among all the technology applications, Virtual Reality (VR) seems potentially an emerging tool. A virtual world is described as a digital world intended to look and experience just like the real world. VR is a technology that enables users to interact with their settings. Since learning institutions must adapt to the rapidly changing educational environment to use integrated technology in their lessons, they need to create effective learning methods. To ensure students can continue their studies in these new norms, the education system in Malaysia has to adapt to accommodate the way the millennials learn. New elearning programmes in classrooms, more computer laboratories would help teachers to experiment with new ways of teaching. To better understand scientific concepts, a group of novice science teachers will be investigating the use of VR in the science lab. The study employs a Design and Development research (DDR) design. This paper serves as the initial phase that identifies early perceptions from these novice science teachers towards applying a VR learning tool for science lab activities during their pre-practicum teaching programme. One hundred and seven (107) respondents from each of the three Science Education programmes responded to a series of questionnaires in a survey posted to them. This was followed by an interview session on five (5) science novice teachers and three (3) science instructors. The survey responses were studied, and their data were compared and verified. The initial findings showed that VR was seen positively as a need in a hazardous and complex situation. It is also recommended that types of VR applications should be low cost and low maintenance. Purpose: This research aims to examine the relationships between supply chain quality management (SCQM), organizational learning capability (OLC) and product innovation performance (PIP) among small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMMEs) in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach: This is a quantitative study in which 163 valid responses were empirically collected from SMMEs in Malaysia via self-administered structured questionnaires. Findings: Performing a partial least squares–structural equation modelling analysis, the findings revealed that the relationships between SCQM, OLC and PIP are positive and significant. Moreover, OLC partially mediates the relationship between SCQM and product innovation. Serving as a practical guideline, the results of this study stress the fact that managers of SMMEs need to look into the role-specific context of the firm before determining which practices would be effective for their companies. Originality/value: The value-added additional testing of the mediating effect of OLC is the highlight of this study. The aim of this research is to examine the impact of learning organization on innovation, mediated by the self-efficacy among Multinationals in Malaysia. This study builds on the conceptual framework and further analyses the important factors of learning organization in predicting individual innovation and self-efficacy through critical evaluation of associated theoretical models, literature study and empirical testing. Due to the respondents' proximity, availability and accessibility, this study has used non-probability convenience sampling technique. Data was collected using a Likert-Scale (1-5) questionnaire from 308 who were employed at Multinationals. The reliability and validity of the item construct was tested. A structural equation modelling was carried out to analyse the data via AMOSE 22. The findings indicated that learning organization has a positive significant influence on innovation and self-efficacy. However, the result showed that self-efficacy has no significant effect on innovation. The result showed that the mediating effect of self-efficacy on the relationship between learning organization and innovation was not significant. The overall conclusion is that innovation can be cultivated and enhanced through learning organisation. The theoretical contribution of this research is that learning organisation and self-efficacy are two key determinants of innovation. Practically, this research findings can be used to design training and development programs to enhance learning organisational culture among the employees which in turn engage themselves in innovative behaviour. Managers can also use this research findings to identify and deciding to allocate resource to enhance innovation through most critical aspects of learning organisation than all aspects. Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationship between having a learning organization (LO) and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), and the moderating role of team-oriented culture on this relationship. Design/methodology/approach: Using 516 respondents from diverse industries in West Malaysia, the authors tested the psychometric properties of the three variables. Findings: LO positively influenced OCB. Team-oriented culture moderated the relationship between having a LO and OCB. Originality/value: This study helps explain how to achieve a LO in a context of high power distance and collectivist culture such as Malaysia. Purpose: Legions of projects fail to attain their time and cost objectives due to ineffective coordination. This is often due to a lack of essential learning from projects because of insufficient communication and working experience. One of the key reasons why this occurs is that managers are unaware of what knowledge needs to be retained. In contrast with knowledge management research, which mostly focuses on the systems and processes for capturing, storing, and retrieval of knowledge, this paper investigates the nature of project communication and learning and their role on project time and cost control. Design/methodology/approach: A stratified proportional purposive sampling approach was adopted in choosing the interview participants for the study. They are experienced industry practitioners working on building construction projects in Malaysia. Content analysis was then performed on the interview data. The identified variables were further validated by 11 industry experts from the three primary construction stakeholders. Findings: The results of a series of 12 in-depth interviews with industry practitioners are provided to reveal the effective communication tools for sharing and learning in a project-based environment, the learning inducing situations involved, and the use of reusable project experiences to improve project time and cost control. Research limitations/implications: A possible limitation of the study is its focus on a small group of Malaysian practitioners delimits the generalizability of the findings. Originality/value: A two-phase model with three-step project management process of input, tools, and output is developed from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) Guide as an aid for more effective knowledge reuse in project time and cost control in the future. Malaysia has achieved significant industrial growth over the years due to the enterprising intervention of multinational companies (MNCs). The organisational climate in terms of its collaborative nature and innovative efforts has led to the enhancement of creativity among MNCs. The extent of knowledge sharing behaviour within MNCs, particularly in the Malaysian context, has not been thoroughly researched. A huge primary survey involving 20 MNCs with 155 respondents from both manufacturing and service sectors was included in this study. The findings of the study reveal that knowledge donating and knowledge collecting highly and positively influence creative performance. Interestingly, knowledge collecting mediates the relationship between an innovative climate and creative performance while a collaborative climate was found to highly and positively influence MNCs' creative performance through knowledge donating. Thus, knowledge sharing behaviour is pivotal for the success of MNCs in terms of generating new ideas, promoting best practices, continuously improving and reducing the redundancy cost of learning to facilitate organisational effectiveness. Purpose: Education 4.0 paves the way for a new form of the university where academicians teach, research and provide services in different ways, which raises the question of the readiness of academicians to face the challenges. This study attempts to explain to which extent the university and its academic staff are ready to face Education 4.0 challenges through the initiatives of knowledge management and organizational learning. Research Methods: Questionnaires were administered to all academic staff in one education university in Malaysia and 218 completed questionnaires were received and analyzed in this study. Data were collected using modified items from two sources to measure knowledge management and organizational learning practices at the university. Items for measuring staff readiness for Education 4.0 were developed based on criteria found in the recent literature. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Findings: Results indicated that the academic staff and the university were ready to face the Education 4.0 challenges. The level of organizational learning practiced by the academic staff is high, the same as the knowledge management practiced by the university. Pearson's correlation analysis showed that both organizational learning and knowledge management practices had significant positive relationships with the readiness of academic staff for Education 4.0. However, multiple regression analysis with stepwise procedures found that only one knowledge management practice and one organizational learning practice were the predictors of the readiness of the academic staff in facing the Education 4.0 challenges. Implications for Research and Practices: This study provides new insight into Education 4.0 through the perspective of knowledge management and organizational learning. Universities need to put more initiatives for knowledge creation, knowledge organization, knowledge storing, knowledge dissemination and knowledge application. In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, big data and predictive analytics (BDPA) capabilities considered as one of the significant resources that enable a firm to gain competitiveness. Nowadays, the advancement of technology information increases the difficulty of the firm to manage vast amounts of structured and unstructured data. The excessive growth between data captured and the firm’s capabilities to manage, process, analyze, and transfer the big data to actionable knowledge and value still challenges many firms in the competitive market. Besides, the lack of tangible resources, technical skills, management skills, organizational learning, and data-driven culture are some of the challenges for firms to apply analytics approach to support the data processing process. These situations led to poor decision making by the firm and result in high operation cost and lower profitability. However, the situation will be different if the firm able to manage BDPA capabilities in the right way. Based on the identified problems, this study aims to review the impact of BDPA capabilities on a firm’s financial performance. This study is expected to enhance the body of knowledge on BDPA capabilities and the firm’s financial performance. This study also provides information regarding the importance of BDPA capabilities on the firm’s financial performance to industrial practitioners. Previous research on innovation culture among SMEs has received little attention particularly in developing countries. Thus, this paper aims to investigate the influence of organisational culture, organisational learning and market orientation on innovation culture. A total of 183 usable responses were received from SMEs in Malaysia. Findings from the analysis suggest that all dimensions of organisational culture influence innovation culture while organisational learning in terms of information acquisition, behavioural and cognitive also influences innovation culture. Finally, in terms of market orientation, only competitor orientation influences innovation culture. This paper focuses on the impact of Market Orientations (MO), Organizational Learning (OL) and Market Conditions (MCs) on Firm Growth (FG), within the context of hospitality Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia. Entrepreneurs/managers were sampled using cluster-sampling technique and surveyed using a 5-point Likert type scale instrument. The questionnaire’s validity was determined by 1) expert opinions, and 2) pilot testing the instrument on a small group of target respondents. A total of 254 completed questionnaires were analyzed to test the research model using Structural Equation Modeling approach (SEM) via the Partial Least Squares (PLS) software. The findings reveal that MO has a strong influence on FG and that OL partially mediates the MO-FG relationship. However, MCs have no moderating influence on the OL-FG relationship. The aim of this research is to investigate the impact of Individual learning on Team learning and Innovation in the Petroleum Industry of Malaysia. The study will carry this research through engaging 321 employees of one petroleum company (PETRONAS) in Malaysia using convenience sampling. The independent variables are Mental Models, Personal Mastery, Dialogue and Inquiry, Continuous Learning and Empowerment to gauge the impact on the dependent variable Team learning and Innovation. This study will employed Confirmatory Factor analysis and Structural Equation Modelling using AMOS20. The results of the study indicated that Empowerment is the only attribute of individual learning that is found to be significant with team learning and Innovation as well while Dialogue & Inquiry has a positive and significant impact on team learning but not innovation while other all factors are found to be insignificant with the dependent variables in the studied context. Moreover it is recommended to engage other relevant factors of individual learning to make the conceptual framework more addressing with a wider number of respondents to pasteurize a more generalize picture of the studied topic. Though this study will be considered a crucial piece in the discipline of organizational learning for the corporate world and as well as the research community through digging and exploiting different research dimensions about the topic. Thereby, for further research other developed economic corridors and developing economies that can further be exploited under the umbrella of organizational learning. The paper reviews and assesses the performance of the manufacturing sector in general, as well as the catalytic industries identified in the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (1 IMP), to ascertain whether the initiatives and targets proposed in the Plan are adequate to energize and move the sector forward. In doing so, the paper uses industrial policy arguments -- market and government failures -- to explain the slow progress of the sector. The findings suggest that market failures -- in terms of lagging industrial capabilities and economies of scale, market frictions, lack of support for self-discovery by firms and diversification -- require government intervention. Nevertheless, defying comparative advantage and identifying frontier products that show lacklustre performance to spearhead the sector under the Plan certainly require substantial improvements in institutioncd capabilities, coordination and institutional learning, while maintaining respect for markets and incentives. This paper describes the influence of organizational learning on risk management maturity (RMM) considering firm size as a moderating variable. Information acquisition, knowledge dissemination, shared interpretation, and organizational memory were used to measure the influence of organizational learning on RMM in 132 small and large construction firms in Malaysia. The data were analyzed using partial least-squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and multigroup moderating analysis. The results show a significant influence of information acquisition and shared interpretation on RMM. Firm size seems to moderate the relationship between shared interpretation and RMM. Organizational learning is recognized as a key factor in organization maturity. This study shows that smaller firms should exert more efforts in shared interpretation of information to enhance their maturity level. Purpose The concept of learning organization has been inspiring both public and private sectors since the early 90s. This paper discusses the implementation of learning organization ideas along with the organization’s core values at one of the public universities in Malaysia. The purpose of this paper is to identify the components of core values that support the development and maintenance of learning organization ideas. It also aims to examine the potential integration of the learning organization idea with organizational core values.Design/methodology/approach The study analyses the application of learning organization principles based on Örtenblad’s (2002) four understandings of learning organization, which are organizational learning, learning at work, learning climate and learning structure, along with the five core values initiatives at the university.Findings This study suggests that the university core values and the learning organization idea work harmoniously with each other. This paper provides examples of the application of the learning organization idea and the core values attribute and how both fit into each other in one of the Malaysian public universities. A learning organization–core values matrix is proposed at the end of the paper.Research limitations/implications This research uses the specific case of organizational core values that are established based on Islamic principles. Purpose This paper aims to identify the key competencies managerial coaches have and examine the significant competencies that affect coaching effectiveness in the Malaysian telecommunications industry.Design/methodology/approach The unit of analysis was individual managerial coaches who were working in the Malaysian telecommunications industry. Among the 300 questionnaires distributed, a total of 140 were obtained and deemed sufficiently complete to be useable. Descriptive and multiple regression analyses were used to analyze the data.Findings The results indicated that leadership development is the most important function of managerial coaching, followed by communication. In addition, co-creating the relationship and effective communication are the critical categories of competencies for managerial coaching. Analysis from the regression highlighted that effective communication is the influencing factor on the coaching effectiveness, followed by facilitating learning, and results. The findings also shown that all the core competencies in setting foundation are the significant influencing factors.Research limitations/implications Analyses relied on cross-sectional data and limits the generalizability of findings to other industries. The utilization of self-reported perceptual data may suffer from response bias.Practical implications This paper highlights personal or professional coaching characteristics that might affect managerial leadership development. This study focuses on the impact of information technology on the survival rate of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector in Malaysia. It analyses the effects of information technology on survival of SMEs in 2000 and 2005, based on two separate groups of firms. It sets out to show that information technology has positive and significant effect on survival of the firms, besides other factors such as minimum efficient size, market and firms attributes, transaction cost, uncertainty, opportunism, information asymmetry and atmosphere, profitability and learning have impact on the survival of SMEs. With using Cox proportional hazard regression model, we found that factors such as profits, R&D, location, ownership, market size, entry rate, industry growth and capital-labor ratio affect the survival of SMEs. Of equal importance is the expenditure on information technology, which is said to have an impact on the viability of firms. E-business is recognized as a strategy that coordinates business processes across organizational boundaries effectively. Despite the values created by e-business, achieving and maintaining competitive advantage is not an easy task. This study draws on the organizational learning and knowledge management capability perspectives to identify six variables that influence e-business successful implementation. Based on the data collected from 110 firms in the Malaysian banking and financial service industry, our results demonstrate that technical expertise, training availability and knowledge management capability are factors that instigate successful e-business implementation. Nonetheless, there is insufficient empirical evidence to support a relationship between the knowledge level and e-business successful implementation. Tourism and related organizations are dealing with crises either based on a specific crisis management plan, contingency planning, designed guideline, or ad hoc response. These organizations learn from crises in different ways, but no mechanisms have been explored to indicate how these organizations learn within the framework of Tourism Crisis Management (TCM). Among various reasons is limited systematic research that has been undertaken in this area. This study addresses this gap in our current knowledge by proposing a model for analyzing and developing organizational learning within the framework of TCM. The study shows the perceptions of 25 key players in Malaysia’s tourism industry on the role of organizational learning in managing crises. The findings also revealed that organizational learning is subject to negligence and few key practitioners thinking about in-depth learning from the crisis management perspectives. Dynamic changes in education urge teachers to learn continuously to improve their knowledge via formal or informal means. This paper discusses teachers' collective learning practices in order to build a culture of collective learning among teachers. Questionnaires were distributed to 321 teachers in 14 High Performing Schools (HPS) throughout Malaysia. Abstract: In spite of the significant amount of work that has been conducted to investigate the impact of environmental proactivity on firm financial performance, limited research has focused on other firm performance outcomes such as operational performance and stakeholder satisfaction. The roles played by interacting and mediating constructs have not been addressed adequately in the environmental proactivity/firm performance literature. Drawing on stakeholder theory and the resource-based view of the firm, this study on 291 firms in Malaysia has hypothesized that environmental proactivity is positively related to (1) operational performance, (2) organizational learning, (3) environmental performance, (4) stakeholder satisfaction and (5) financial performance. The study has also hypothesized that the types of technologies deployed to address environmental issues moderates the relationship between environmental proactivity and operational performance, whilst environmental performance mediates the relationship between environmental proactivity and stakeholder satisfaction, which in turn mediates the relationship between environmental proactivity and financial performance. Using structural equation modeling (SEM) for the data analysis, findings indicate that environmental proactivity is positively related to operational performance, organizational learning, environmental performance, stakeholder satisfaction and financial performance. Significantly, the mediating role of stakeholder satisfaction is also supported by the data even though the mediating role of environmental performance and the moderating role of types of technologies are not supported by findings. Strategic alliances (SAs) are becoming a popular and prominent strategy to help many firms sustain its competitive advantage in the rapid and unexpected global economy. This inter-organisational structure is becoming essential feature in today's intensely competitive market as a means for facilitating market entry, acquiring new technology, leveraging economies of scale, and enhancing new product development capabilities. Purpose – With internet technology, knowledge acquisition surpasses the confinement of the university's campus or syllabus. Concurrently, an entrepreneurship programme has recently been offered to students, positioning universities as an experimental ground for the breeding of entrepreneurs. Thus, this paper seeks to evaluate the effect of entrepreneurship education syllabi empowered with current information communication technology (ICT) exposure towards students' entrepreneurial self-efficacy together with social norms and their entrepreneurial intention; and whether this latest development lives up to stakeholders' expectations.Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected through a census survey of entrepreneurship students at four MSC-Status universities that offer entrepreneurship degree programmes. Quantitative analyses such as regression were performed.Findings – Specialised entrepreneurship education with ICT exposure significantly affects a student's entrepreneurial self-efficacy. However social norms were found to be a poor predictor towards entrepreneurial intention, explaining the diminished level of influence lecturers had upon their students' behaviour.Research limitations/implications – This study focuses on a group of entrepreneurship students who are exposed to ICT applications at that stipulated time, and as such, the findings cannot be generalised as technology evolves rapidly. The findings are also limited to only entrepreneurial intention and demonstrate the outcome in Malaysia's higher education industry.Practical implications – The two direct stakeholders i.e. the university's management and lecturers, may need to reconstruct their respective initiatives by introducing "creative disruption" philosophies, policies and pedagogies to facilitate the "creative destruction" mode of education into realising its full potential.Originality/value – This paper provides an insight into challenges that universities face in delivering distinctive knowledge consisting of theories and practices. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of organisational learning (comprising absorptive capacity, nature and type of alliances and learning environment) through strategic technology alliances on technology transfer and new product development. The paper is based on a larger research on alliances in the Malaysian manufacturing industry. Design/methodology/approach - The antecedents and outcomes of organisational learning were tested using structural equation modelling, based on data collected from 335 organisations through an online survey questionnaire. Findings - The findings depict that absorptive capacity, nature and type of alliances and learning environment significantly affect technology transfer in Malaysian manufacturers, but not necessarily new product development simultaneously. Nevertheless, the results establish technology transfer as an effective means for building innovative capabilities in developing new products. This is imperative for attaining Malaysia''s current goal in improving the manufacturing industry and becoming an industrialised nation by the year 2020. Research limitations/implications - The findings advocate further deliberations for manufacturers in Malaysia in shaping their strategies and learning objectives when embarking on collaborative relations, as these can result in technological competencies and ultimately the capacity to develop new innovative products. Practical implications - The paper offers useful insights for manufacturers when forming technology alliances; and facilitate decisions by current practitioners in managing collaborations. The paper also informs Malaysian Government institutions in developing mechanisms, economic policy strategies and business support services for enhancing the economic and commercial viability of Malaysian manufacturing activities and products.
