A biography of Francis Tillou Redding Nicholls, First Redeemer Governor of Louisiana. He was born on September 30, 1834, the youngest son of Thomas C. Nicholls and Louisa Francis Nicholls. He entered the military school in West Point in 1850 and eventually graduating twelfth in his class. Later on, he enrolled in law school of the University of Louisiana in New Orleans. After a distinguished service during the American Civil War, he returned to his legal practice and eventually nominated and elected as governor of Louisiana for two terms.

The Louisiana State Lottery Company was chartered as an aftermath of the War Between the States. The necessity of financial reconstruction was one of the impelling forces. The gambling concerns in New Orleans, Louisiana were corrupting officers and bribing the police and it was thought these evils could be reduced by making gambling legitimate. Besides, the scheme proposed would tax the extravagances of the people. The company was a potent factor in the history of Louisiana during the twenty-five years of its chartered existence.

The article focuses on the story of Mariah M. Hall, whose husband Dempsey became one of the largest slave owners in Bienville Parish, Louisiana in 1850. Dempsey and Mariah had 9 children but 4 of them died at an early age. When Dempsey died in 1854, his properties were divided by the court. Mariah was survived by her 5 sons who all became servicemen in 1862, though only one of her sons, Henry Johniken, survived. Mariah reportedly witnessed the Civil War, the reconstruction and the fall of the Cotton Kingdom before her death in 1891.

Date Presented 05/04/19 We examined whether an OT regimen that combines modified constraint-induced unimanual therapy with bimanual therapy can improve hand function in children with unilateral brain injury. We also examined the optimal order of each therapy type. We found that combined unimanual and bimanual intensive OT improves motor and functional upper-extremity use in these children. Improvement appears to be independent of the order in which the therapies are combined.
