In this work we try to answer the next question: What are the trajectories, tensions, rearticulations in the Latin American critical thought of Communication? These are broad questions and ambitious objectives, for which we carry out a series of micro-exercises to help us narrow down the question: review the proposal of the other reflection group "Towards a Possible Communicology", analyze the ALAIC/ECREA editorial proposal and finally synthesize some concerns within the history of ideas in the region in its link with communication. In the end, we make a summary of precisely these tensions and a couple of challenges that we believe are presented for Latin American communicology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During the period 1915-1945, United States historians contributed important revisions to the subfield of colonial Hispanic American History. Their histories argued for a reconsideration of inherited wisdom about the Spanish colonial empire, in issues of justice towards indigenous peoples, the interoceanic book trade, colonial universities, the Crown's mercantilist policies, and the penetration of Enlightenment ideas in the Indies. This article reads these contributions in relation to the politics of US Pan-Americanism and the Good Neighbor policy, arguing that different versions of historical revisionism served to envision a new form of US engagement with Latin America. The history of ideas has been a discipline much questioned by historians and philosophers but widely cultivated in Hispanic America, due to the influx of a group of Spanish and Italian thinkers that migrated to this continent after the wars in Europe. The idea of America has been one of the fundamental topics studied by this discipline on the continent, although its origin is quite remote; the topic underwent a splendid period of study during the second half of the twentieth century, due to the influence of the Spanish philosopher, José Gaos, on many Latin American authors. The culmination of these investigations can be found in the so-called liberating movement, composed of the Dependence Theory, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Liberation Theology and Liberation Philosophy. Faced with the task performed by the "historians of ideas" inspired by Leopoldo Zea's project, more philosophical reflection on history and its meaning in Latin America is required. The analogical hermeneutic provides some assumptions necessary to undertake this task, overcoming univocal rationalist accounts, postmodern ambiguity and, in short, ideologies of history. Rethinking the meaning of history does not mean anticipatory discourse on how, where and when it will finish. It is rather "a performative speech," inviting to engage in historical reality to transform it, not in terms of ideology but in terms of affirmation, forgiveness, dialogue and action. Leo S. Rowe, before becoming director of the Pan-American Union, came to Argentina to gather information, connect with local intellectuals, and disseminate the basic ideas of an emerging inter-American system of cultural and intellectual cooperation that would be the backbone of Pan-Americanism. This paper deals with the interaction and communication between the Hemispheric Intellectual-Statesman and its local counterparts, focusing on the dynamic of the imperial hegemonic process. Argentine intellectuals failed to accept Rowe's progressive ideas about modern corporations, government by public opinion, and social reform. But they were quite ready to entertain ideas of inter-American cooperation with the powerful Northern Neighbor, vindicating at the same time their affinity with and belonging to "European culture". This paper attempts to locate the origin of the history of ideas from XIX century in Colombia, in the interpretative intention of the authors of the second half of the century, who have the intention to give meaning to historical facts using a conceptual structure taken from different ideologies or philosophic currents in vogue at that moment in Europe, without stopping in the purely descriptive or historical interest. In the twentieth century we will be studying relevant authors or publishing their original studies to complete a certain canon of representatives from the intellectuality of the epoch. The question is for the criterion which defines the selection and the mode to link the ideas in general and the philosophical in particular to the development of the cultural and social processes. The paper shows some alternative hypotheses that take the contributions from text science and other contemporary disciplines that consider the study of the ideas of the XIX century without falling into the totalizations that have been censured.
