The Cuban Revolution and its historical process are at the centre of Latin American studies in social sciences in Türkiye. This article examines the Cuban 26th of July Movement in the context of Latin American social movements. The study is analysed in three parts. First, the structure of Latin America is examined, followed by the history of colonialism and social opposition. In this section, the 26th of July Movement and Cuba are read from the perspective of 'Latin America'. This section is the section in which the social movements literature is examined and the distinction between old and new social movements is examined. The social movement in Cuba is handled around the concept of social movements. The study argues that the Cuban Revolution is an example that transcends the distinction between old and new social movements. Again, in the same section, social movements in Latin America are examined based on the necessity of reading similar examples to understand the Cuban Revolution and the 26th of July Movement. Here, on the other hand, it is underlined that movements in Latin America were influenced by and influenced the Cuban Revolution. The second part of the study deals with the Cuban Revolution and its subject, the 26th of July Movement, in a historical continuity. Here, it is emphasized that it is necessary to examine the 26th of July Movement with a process-oriented perspective, not a leader-oriented perspective. Otherwise, the historical process will be denied, and it will be moved away from being scientific. In the conclusion part of the study, the Cuban Revolution in international relations and the results of this revolution are examined. In the study, the populist, modernizing and anti-imperialist character of the Cuban Revolution is emphasized before its socialist character. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and the 55 years of the Theory of the Unit in 2019, this essay aims to show the impact that this revolution had on the emergence of Latin American social sciences based on a critical thinking that questions the hegemonic paradigms characteristic of scientific positivism with Eurocentric and colonial inspiration. Although the essay considers some other elements of explanatory context of the emergence of critical social sciences, it highlights and focuses on the impact that this continental historical event had, not only on Latin American revolutionary movements, but also on intellectuality and academia, especially in the sixties of the last century. To do this, it briefly presents the political and ideological scope of the revolution and the "spirit of the age" that it generates, with the intention of showing the way in which some of its postulates were received, enriched and developed by the social sciences of the region in the early sixties of the twentieth century, all of which goes through a brief review of the hegemonic theories up to that point in the social sciences of Latin America. The essay is not historical, which is why it does not stop at the construction of a story of events and actors; but rather of a theoretical nature, insofar as it tries to move in the plane of categories and concepts typical of the acquis of these disciplines and ways of thinking. International Comunist Movement (ICM) has undergone important transformations during the 60's. Deeply disturbed by the events that followed the 20th Congress of Comunist Party of Sovietic Union, ICM would see, on the following decade, the scission between the Russians and the Chinese worsen even more. This article analyzes a topic and its different itineraries: "Uruguay giving its back to Latin America". We think that it is relevant in order to understand the critics and the politic assessments of different Uruguayan intellectuals during the 60s. We explore some specific moments, such as the Cuban revolution, when that topic helps to study certain characteristic oppositions by which Uruguayan history has been explained. The world was at war or at least the rest of the world when we birth. It was not clear against whom they were fighting, but the big winner aims to be the U.S.A. - cradle of democracy and freedom. That was the world scenario that awaited us accompanied by the key date for all my generation: 1959 and the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. The photo of Fidel and his companions, with their beards, their olive green uniforms and rifles, would forever change my generation. Until then revolution was something distant, asian: from Russia, China. The victory represented the actuality of the revolution throughout Latin America that would never be the same since. The armed insurrection that brought Fidel Castro to power in 1959 was one of the most influential events of the 20th century. Like the Russian and Mexican revolutions before it, the Cuban revolution set out to bring social justice and prosperity to a country that had suffered the evils of corrupt regimes. A small country thus became the center of world debates about equality, culture, and class struggle, attracting the attention of political leaders not only from Latin America but also from Africa, Asia, and Europe. Its intent to forge a model society has often been described in utopian terms. Writers, artists, and filmmakers turned to utopia as a metaphor to trace the evolution of the arts in the island from the enthusiasm and optimism of the first moments to the dystopian hopelessness and despair of the last decades. Indeed, the Cuban revolution, like so many other social revolutions of the 20th century, became the victim of a whole series of internal and external forces that ended up turning the promised dream into a nightmare tainted by autocratic leadership, repression, and political and economic isolation. Although Cuban literature has extensively addressed these issues since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, it is only recently that we can find similar trends in a cinematic output that portrays Cuba as a utopia gone sour. This article examines recent films such as Alejandro Brugués' Juan de los Muertos (2011), Tomás Piard's Los desastres de la Guerra (2012), Eduardo del Llano's Omega 3 (2014), Rafael Ramírez's Diario de la niebla (2016), Yimit Ramírez's Gloria eterna (2017), Alejandro Alonso's El Proyecto (2017), and Miguel Coyula's Corazón Azul (2021). These films use futuristic imageries to offer a poignant (and often apocalyptic) depiction of the harsh paradoxes of contemporary life in Cuba while reflecting upon the downfall of utopia.
