The article discusses Korean kisaeng, or courtesans, during the Japanese occupation of Korea from 1910 to 1945. It examines their training and schools and comments on their contributions to the performing arts, particularly music and dance. The author explores the impact of Japanese and Western culture on the kisaeng. Other topics include kisaeng gramophone recordings, performances on the Korean broadcast network Kyŏngsŏng Radio Broadcasting, and the kisaeng journal "Changhan."

The objective of the research is to determine important attributes in selecting international convention destinations and to evaluate how well Seoul performs in providing the important attributes. This study investigates the factors affecting the meeting planners' overall satisfaction level of Seoul, Korea, using a multiple regression analysis. A total of 75 foreign meeting planners participated in this research. Statistically significant determinants of the meeting planners' overall satisfaction levels were cost/service, facility/support, and accessibility. The results of the Importance-Performance analysis indicate that Seoul should improve the following attributes: convention and exhibition facilities, overpriced hotel room rate, ground transportation, management skills of staff, and friendliness and foreign language skills of local people. Objective of this study was to assess the economic impact of the convention industry in Korea. An input–output model was used to investigate the economic impact of the convention industry in terms of output, employment, income, value-added, and import. Considering multiplier effects, rate of exchange earnings, and substitution effect, the convention industry was compared with other major export products. According to results of this study, estimated economic impact of the convention industry was reported to be very significant to the Korean economy. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
