This paper aimed to describe the implementation and operation of the e-SUS AB strategy in the Prison Primary Care Teams in Paraíba. A qualitative study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with 21 professionals, doctors, and nurses, from 11 primary care teams in prisons in Paraíba and the health management of the Penitentiary Administration Secretariat. A semi-structured roadmap was adopted for the interviews from the script previously established by the Ministry of Health for the implementation of the e-SUS AB system, which resulted in three thematic categories after being transcribed and analyzed per Bardin's content analysis proposal: the health information system and the prison setting; management actions for the implementation of the e-SUS AB and; skills and competencies of professionals to use the e-SUS AB system. The e- SUS AB was implemented in the prison system with some obstacles concerning the physical and technological structure of the setting, the insuffi- cient professional training, and the lack of skills with information technologies highlighted by the respondents. People feel the need to implement the citizen's electronic medical records to ensure continuity of care for people deprived of liberty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A prevalence study was conducted to compare quality of life and food insecurity in men and women living with HIV/AIDS. The sample comprised 481 HIV-infected individuals undergoing antiretroviral therapy at a referral hospital in the State of Paraíba, Brazil. Food insecurity and quality of life were assessed using the Brazilian Household Food Insecurity Scale and WHOQOL-HIV Bref, respectively. The results were presented as absolute and relative frequencies and gender differences were tested using the chi-squared test adopting a significance level of 0.05. The findings showed that 40.1% of the sample were women. A higher percentage of women than men had a low income and low education level (65.8% and 72.5%, respectively). Prevalence of food security was lower in women than in men (29.0% compared to 42.7%), and a higher percentage of women than men reported below average quality of life (54.9% compared to 44.4%). The findings reveal that, besides the usual difficulties faced by HIV-infected patients, this group showed a significant level of gender inequality. The management of HIV patient care should consider these important findings, promoting access to care and support services and gender equality so that women can live fairer and more equal lives. This paper aimed to assess the factors related to the physical capacity of upper and lower limbs in quilombola older adults. This is a cross-sectional, analytic study performed with elderly residents in the quilombola community Caiana dos Crioulos, Alagoa Grande, Paraíba, Brazil. The researched dependent variables were the physical capacity of upper and lower limbs. It was performed the Spearman correlation and multiple and linear simple regression (95% CI; p<0.05). This work was performed per Resolution 466/2012 from National Health Council. Forty-three older adults were assessed. The bivariate analyses showed a positive correlation between handgrip strength (HGS) and physical activity (PA), between HGS and arm muscle circumference (AMC), and an inverse correlation between Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) and age. The multiple-model for HGS was significantly correlated with age, AMC, and years of study (R²=0.374; p<0.05). Regarding the SPPB, it showed a significant correlation with age (R²=0.2524; p=0.001). Therefore, the muscle mass reserve, years of study, and age were factors related to the physical capacity among quilombola older adults. The strict compliance of these aspects and the early intervention can preserve physical capacity and ensure the productive inclusion and economic autonomy so much sought in the communities' social agenda. Objective: To evaluate the influence of tooth loss and the use of removable dentures on chewing function and nutritional status of institutionalized elders. Material and Methods: Cross-sectional study with 155 elders from seven long-stay institutions in João Pessoa, Brazil. The participants were classified according to the presence of reminiscent teeth and use of dentures in four levels: toothless, without denture (1); toothless with a complete denture (2); partial toothless without denture (3) and partial toothless with a partial denture (4). Nutritional status was assessed using the Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA) instrument and the Body Mass Index (BMI). Swallowing threshold was used for the assessment of masticatory function, using a portion of roasted peanuts (3.7 g). Comparisons among groups were performed using Kruskal-Wallis test with Bonferroni adjustment, considering p<0.05. Results: MNA (p=0.702) and BMI (p=0.884) were not modified in relation to the presence of teeth and denture use. Toothless individuals without dentures had a lower swallowing threshold (p<0.001), whilst partial toothless with dentures had better masticatory function (p>0.05). Conclusion: The presence of reminiscent teeth and the use of dentures do not influence the nutritional status of the elders but interfere with the masticatory function. Prosthetic rehabilitation is desirable for complete toothless individuals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Increasing coastal urbanization influences the conservation status of ecosystems associated with urbanized coastal zones. The objective of this study was to evaluate the spatial and temporal variations in macrobenthic populations of the intertidal zones of the Formosa, Areia Vermelha, Picãozinho and Seixas coastal reefs in Paraíba, Brazil. The evaluation will serve as a basis for characterizing the conservation status of these reefs and for developing a monitoring program. To determine conservation status, we adapted the Ecological Evaluation Index continuous formula (EEI-c) and obtained an indicator value (IndVal) for each of the identified species to select the most informative species for monitoring purposes. With the exception of rugosity, the environmental variables exhibited only temporal variations, likely reflecting the shared coastal oceanographic influences. According to the classification proposal by Orfanidis et al. (2011) based on EEI-c values, the conservation status of the reef environments of João Pessoa and Cabedelo was satisfactory and was not affected by tourism, since the environmental quality of the control area with no tourism (Formosa Reef) was similar than that of the other reefs during the period with the highest flow of tourists. The species selected by IndVal, except for Acanthophora spicifera in Areia Vermelha, were bioindicators of areas with low impacts. Similar to other bioindicator species from impacted areas, the occurrence of A. spicifera was considered seasonal, not representative of a warning sign. The present study demonstrates that existing low-cost, non destructive methods can be adapted to evaluate the conservation status and develop monitoring procedures for the coastal reefs of Brazil.
