The use of computer-assisted diagnosis (CADe) in screening colonoscopy has been shown to significantly decrease the miss rate of neoplasia and increase key quality indicators. However, CADe tools have not been widely implemented outside of tertiary centers due to the high cost and lack of reimbursement. A recent study in Japan demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of CADe in an organized program based on fecal immunochemical testing (FIT). While this finding is promising, there are still uncertainties regarding the long-term efficacy of CADe in preventing colorectal cancer and the generalizability of results outside of clinical trials. Further research is needed before widespread implementation can be recommended. [Extracted from the article]
