The article reports on a research in which researchers from the NTT Basic Research Labs and the Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan have discovered that mechanical resonators can act as a sensitive probe of excitonic transitions. In their research, scientists have demonstrated the use of mechanics to probe light by using an excitonic optomechanics coupling. They also reported that the effect of light on the mechanical resonator can be controlled by detuning the wavelength of the light.
