The article focuses on onkyô, or sound, a music genre created by a group of performers in Tokyo. Onkyô, which is normally performed with electronic instruments, is predominated by silences and pauses between singular sounds. Onkyô concerts, where artists minimize physical gestures, place emphasis on the environmental sounds of the performance location. The music genre was led by Ôtomo Yoshiside, an artist who played free jazz, rock and experimental noise.
