The book "Reading Medieval Ruins: Urban Life and Destruction in Sixteenth-Century Japan" by Morgan Pitelka explores the archaeological site of Ichijōdani, a sixteenth-century urban center in Japan. Pitelka argues that the material culture found at Ichijōdani has not been fully utilized as a historical source and challenges the traditional narrative of the Sengoku period as a time of constant warfare and destruction. The book examines various aspects of Ichijōdani, including its layout, material culture, political power, religious activities, and sociocultural production. This is a bibliography of Bernard Shaw's works in Japanese translation. It was originally compiled by Masahiko Masumoto (1934–2006) and has been supplemented and updated by Ryuichi Oura. The list is preceded by an introduction that briefly traces a history of Shaw's reception in Japan and outlines how Japanese translators have tried to solve some problems in translating Shaw, such as choosing suitable titles and transplanting dialects and swear words. Although the existence of Japanese corporate networks and Japanese management practices has been substantiated in the management literature, explanations for their origins are lacking. The author illustrates that the Japanese family provides an institutional logic for Japanese corporate networks and Japanese management practices. Furthermore, the historical actions of individuals in Japanese corporations are indicative of a strategy to sustain and nurture their social capital--a strategy that might explain the historical persistence of this family logic. The list is divided into several categories: general titles, ancient period, medieval period, early modern period, and modern and contemporary periods; each category contains a subsection citing books on primary sources. Each citation consists of seven elements: author, title, publisher, publishing date, type, number of pages, and price.

The list of documents housed in the Kaedeyama Library--also known as the Momijiyama Library, an archive created by the Tokugawa shogunate during the Edo period), in Tokyo, Japan, has been protected by several governmental departments under the Imperial Household Agency since 1869. One hand-copied version left in the former Ministry of State is an exact copy of the list; however, both that copy and one held by the Imperial Household Agency are clearly “copied” and not originals. One list and a copy of it created in 1805 and dedicated to the shogun and the Hayashi family that hereditary took the master’s position in the educational institution under Shogun is similar to the Kaedeyama list, and it is very likely that one revised in 1864 is the original, which was forgotten during the turbulent time of Meiji Restoration.

We studied Japanese LIS educators in terms of their academic qualifications and research productivity in order to more clearly comprehend the current state of library and information science education in Japan. It was found that while there was an increase in the number of both full-time and female faculty members, and an increase in the number of faculty members who were highly educated, there was a sharp decrease in the number of educators who had experience working at libraries. Furthermore, faculty members seemed to focus their attention on LIS-related academic societies. This article traces the publication of local gazetteers published in Taiwan under the authority of the Japanese governor-general's office, 1895 to 1945, examining content; form and organization; and the value of these publications for historians. The works are divided into four categories and analyzed in annotated bibliographical style. The categories are: historical gazetteers (nine publications); county gazetteers (ten publications); city and district gazetteers (eight publications); and street maps/atlases (ten publications). Many of the works discussed here are in manuscript form; many are written in Japanese; a large number of Japanese works on this subject exist; and a number of works about these sources can be supplemented by individuals' accounts and reference books. This section presents a bibliography of children's books about Japanese Americans and about Japan. Sheila Hamanka's The Journey: Japanese Americans, Racism and Renewal is a story of Japanese Americans from early immigration in the 1800s to the fourth generation of present day. The Invisible Thread by Yoshiko Uchida addresses the unique experiences of growing up as a Japanese American in Berkeley, California. The book A Fence Away From Freedom: Japanese Americans and World War II by Ellen Levine details the chronology of events after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which led to the internment of Japanese Americans. Vicki Cobb's This Place Is Crowded: Japan focuses on various aspects of Japanese life. Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun by Rhoda Blumberg and Richard Temes' Exploration Into Japan offer introductory information about the history of Japan. Masako Hidaka's The Samurai's Tale depicts the turbulence in the sixteenth century Japan through the life Taro, who was raised by a Samurai who killed his family. The Bicycle Man by Allen Say is about friendship between Japanese school children and U.S. soldiers set in post-World War II Japan.

The article presents information about Milton Center of Japan and an appraisal for their effort in publishing the first volume of the MCJ NEWS. It contains a brief history of the establishment of the Milton Center of Japan in 1974-75. The news also contains abstracts of papers delivered at the First Annual Conference of MCJ (July 18, 1975) and at the First Colloquium of MCJ (July 10, 1976). These abstracts are: "Milton Bibliography in Japan (1972-1975)," also included in the news, should be of importance to Miltonists around the world. The article focuses on recent writings on Japanese economic and social history. A peculiar institutional feature of economic history in Japan is the split between economic and business historians. Economic historians were affected by Marxism, although the majority have been writing empirical works. Business historians are almost never Marxists. Dialogue between them has only recently begun. The strength of the Marxist tradition in economic history has meant that social history has not yet established an identity as a separate research area. Works of economic history have often included what is regarded as social history in the West, and this helps to explain the relative absence of studies devoted exclusively to women's history, family history, and so on. Booklets on the bibliography of histories of companies and other economic organizations are useful for economic historians, particularly because a great number of companies have recently commissioned academics to write their histories.
