A monitoring survey of antifouling biocides was conducted in the Harima Nada Sea and Osaka Bay of the Seto Inland Sea, Japan to assess contamination by organotin (OT) compounds and alternative biocides. The concentrations of tributyltin (TBT) compounds in surface water ranged from 1.0 to 2.8 ng/L, and the detected TBT concentrations in the bottom water layer were higher than those in the surface water. The concentrations of TBT compounds in sediment samples ranged from 2.0 to 28 ng/g dry weight (dw), respectively. The concentrations of alternative biocides in the water and sediment were lower than those before the banning of TBT by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Although triphenyltin (TPT) compounds were not detected in water samples, TPT compounds were detected in the range of < 0.1-2700 ng/g dw in sediment samples. Their concentrations in the water samples were as follows: diuron, < 1-53 ng/L; Sea-Nine 211, < 1-1.8 ng/L; Irgarol 1051, < 1-4.0 ng/L; dichlofluanid, < 1-343 ng/L; and chlorothalonil, < 1-1 ng/L, and the ranges of these alternative compounds in sediment samples were diuron, 32-488 ng/g dw; Sea-Nine 211, 47-591 ng/g dw; Irgarol, 33-128 ng/g dw; dichlofluanid, 67-8038 ng/g dw; and chlorothalonil, 31-2975 ng/g dw. Aims: The Japanese Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy revised the diagnostic criteria for pre‐eclampsia (PE) to conform to those of the International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy (ISSHP) in 2018. This study aimed to investigate whether pregnancy outcomes differ based on the presence of proteinuria and validate the adoption of the ISSHP criteria in Japan. Methods: This is a retrospective study involving 308 women diagnosed with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy at a tertiary center. They were divided into the following groups: PE with proteinuria (n = 218), PE without proteinuria (n = 45) and gestational hypertension (n = 45) according to the ISSHP criteria for comparison of pregnancy outcomes. Results: Applying the ISSHP criteria increased the number of pregnant women diagnosed as having PE by 14.6% (45 women). The difference in the rate of composite maternal complications between the two groups was unremarkable, with 33 cases (15.1%) in the PE with proteinuria group and 9 cases (20%) in the PE without proteinuria group. Moreover, composite neonatal complications occurred in 37 cases (17%) of PE with proteinuria group and 6 cases (13.3%) of PE without proteinuria group, showing remarkably similar incidence rate in the two groups. Women with PE with and without proteinuria had significantly earlier deliveries and lower neonatal birth weight than those with gestational hypertension. Conclusion: Pregnancy outcomes of PE with and without proteinuria were almost similar although their incidence increased, confirming its validity for adaptation of the ISSHP criteria in Japan. The aim of this study is to identify the factors that comprise farmer attitudes toward dairy cows and jobs in Japan, and examine the relationship between these attitudes and dairy productivity. At first, we executed a questionnaire survey to determine factors that comprise attitudes of farmers toward their jobs and dairy cows, and three factors were extracted. These were named as 'Positive beliefs to cows', 'Negative beliefs to cows' and 'Job satisfaction', respectively. Second, we examined the relationships between attitude and dairy productivity in 35 dairy farms. The positive beliefs scores correlated positively both with milk yield and milk urea nitrogen concentration. We found there to be three farm groups by cluster analysis using three attitude score. The group B farms showed significantly higher positive beliefs scores and job satisfaction scores; on the other hand, the group C farms showed significantly lower positive beliefs scores and higher negative belief scores. The milk yield in group B was significantly higher than that in group C. This study showed that Japanese farmers' attitudes toward cows considerably resemble those seen in previous studies in Western cultures. Positive attitudes toward cows could enhance stockmanship, and could improving animal welfare and productivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
