This paper reports the development of an international Masters in Information Studies between the Universities of Parma (Italy) and Northumbria (United Kingdom). Rather than concentrating on a detailed discussion of course content, it considers the strengths of an international collaborative course development and delivery and the issues involved in developing such a course and gaining approval for it through the different procedures of two countries. The article presents brief analysis of architecture of Basilica of Superga church, Italy and Karlskirche church in Vienna, Austria by art historian Albert Ilg. Various topics discussed include symbolic aspects of their architectural design in both regions, cultural exchanges between Turin and Vienna in 19th century, and reason of their architectural resemblance.

Abstract: Several species belonging to the genus Rhamnus (Rhamnaceae), comprising ones among which are found the most typical plants of the Italian flora, are known to contain biologically active anthraquinone secondary metabolites. Although several Rhamnus species were so far investigated, no information is available concerning the content and relative abundances of anthraquinones in R. saxatilis. In this study we used a simple, reliable, and accurate analytical method to determine the anthraquinones in bark of R. saxatilis. This allowed us also to trace a comparative study on the efficacy of different extraction solvents in ultrasonication time dependent assays. Separation and quantification of anthraquinones were accomplished using a C18 column with the mobile phase of H2O:methanol (40:60, v/v, 1% formic acid) at a flow rate of 0.7mL/min and a detection wavelength of 254nm, while the qualitative analyses were also achieved at a wavelength of 435nm.Finally, the described HPLC method, was used to obtain a specific chemical fingerprint for this species in comparison with other species from the same family. Background and Aim: Ideally, day-surgery laparoscopic cholecystectomy (DLC) combines patient satisfaction with cost-effectiveness. However, DLC has not yet been widely applied in the elderly. Thus, to challenge the current perception of DLC as a contraindication, several parameters were investigated for the feasibility of DLC within the general and elderly population. A retrospective study was conducted to analyse age, along with other relevant patient characteristics, as factors leading to successful 24-h discharge.Methods: Data were collected from 207 patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) between 2010 and 2013. Of these patients, 154 were aged <75 years and 53 > 75 years, with a median age of 59.3 years. Comparisons of the length of post-surgical hospital stay were made. Further, the parameters influencing the surgeon's decision to discharge patients within a 24-h period were investigated: demographic data; patient characteristics such as age, sex and concomitant diseases; disease presentation; surgical experience; intraoperative complications; and post-operative course. The numbers of hospital readmissions and reoperations were established as parameters of failure.Results: Forty-five (21.7%) patients remained hospitalized up to 24 h. The majority of them had no co-morbidities, low American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grades, adenomas and uncomplicated gallstone disease. Eleven patients were aged >75 years. None of the patients died, whereas one patient was readmitted following DLC.Considerations: Age itself did not prove to be a contraindication for DLC. The patient's general health, disease presentation and the surgeon's attitude were the main factors favouring early discharge. Patient selection and patient-care facilities were crucial for successful outcomes. Coronary heart disease is the most important cause of mortality in adults. New approaches may reduce the cardiovascular risk in population. "SINTESI" is an original data base designed in collaboration with the Italian Group for the Study of Metabolism Disease and Atherosclerosis to improve the evaluation of the major risk factors in the population and to create a data bank for medical research. It runs in Windows. The software includes the following electronics archives: Demographics; History; Follow-up; ECG; Laboratory; Doppler-echocardiography; Stress test-ECT; Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring; Holter-ECG; Nuclear imaging; Vascular echo-Doppler; Hemodynamics; Radiology. We named the most important file "Main Working Area" (MWA). This displays all the most important information on the clinical status of the patients and represents the "console" for using the software. In fact, in MWA "buttons" are displayed to enter all the electronic archives. The software displays graphics and the flow-chart of clinical history. We implemented "routines" for automatic evaluation of several variables. We also simplify the statistical use of the data implementing functions for "query" that permit the management of data bank. The use of this software may facilitate the correct evaluation and stratification of the cardiovascular risk. In conclusion, "Progetto SINTESI" is an easy, synthetic organization of patient's clinical data and a complete data bank. It is our opinion that the use of this software may promote a standard way of collecting a large number of data to improve the stratification of cardiovascular risk.
