Background: Cyberaggression (CyA) comprehends a broad spectrum of hostile behaviours carried out through electronic means. Acts of CyA were studied mostly among adolescents. This crosssectional study aims to evaluate the nature, extent and outcomes in terms of depressive and anxiety symptoms as well psychosomatic disorders in adults in Italy. Methods: An internet-based survey comprehensive of 34 items was distributed through Social Media and targeted only adults. Descriptive analysis and correlation tests were performed in order to identify the extent of the CyA phenomenon. Results: The survey received a response from 341 Participants (60% women), 43% of them declared to have been victim of CyA almost 1 time in their life and the most representative forms were insults (24.7%) and harassment (19.9%). Only 13% of participants were author of acts of CyA almost 1 time in their life, and 11% of them insulted someone else online. The 74.1% was bystander of CyA episodes as insults (62.7%), discrimination (62%) and defamation (47.8%). According to 95.1% of participants, these episodes were seen on Social Network, 17% on Facebook. The 39.5% of participants asserted an increased frequency of the events during the pandemic restriction. The main reasons of CyA declared were politics (70%), racism (65.8%), sexual orientation (65%) and female gender (53.1%). Chi square Test showed a significant correlation only between sexual orientation and victimization (69.4% of non-heterosexual asserted to be victim). The 33.6% of victims of CyA asserted anxiety and sadness after episodes, while the 39.8% stated to be angry. Conclusions: CyA episodes are widespread in the European context and potentially harmful for mental health of victims. Sexual and ethnic minorities and females are more frequently the target. Pandemics enhanced this phenomenon. European public health professionals should take into careful consideration this issue for its potential negative consequences. Background: Scientific evidence demonstrates that poor sleep quality can lead to various health problems. This study aimed to investigate sleep patterns among Italian university students and identify several factors that may contribute to its quality., Study Design: Cross-sectional study., Methods: An electronic questionnaire regarding sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle, and sleep-related habits, including the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, was distributed between January 2022 and July 2023 among students belonging to 12 universities located in Northern, Central, and Southern Italy., Results: On a total of 1,674 questionnaires collected, the participants (mean age 24.06±4.56 years, 71.3% F) reported an average number of hours of nocturnal sleep equal to 6.89±1.28 hours. A total of 927 (54.6%) of respondents showed a poor sleep quality (PSQI >5). Regression analysis showed that better sleep quality is associated with lower age, attending universities in Northern Italy, less time spent on electronic devices during the day, not being used to study at night and not playing videogames before sleep., Conclusion: From a public health perspective, our findings suggest that public health operators should raise the awareness of young adults about the importance of sleep quality for maintaining good health, as well as the impact that certain behaviors can have on sleep.

Aim: The lack of health professionals and the physicians' migration trend represents a challenging issue for the health systems' sustainability worldwide. The current study aims to evaluate the intentions of Italian medical students to pursue their own careers abroad by investigating the push and pull factors of migration., Subject and Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed among Italian medical students through a self-administered questionnaire. Primary and secondary outcomes were established as the intention of moving abroad after graduation and knowledge about residency programmes, application, quality training and remuneration in the country of interest. Descriptive analysis for all variables and univariable and multivariable regression for primary and secondary outcomes were performed., Results: Overall, 307 medical students took part in the study. More than half of the sample considered moving abroad after graduation, mainly to find a higher quality training programme. Regression analysis highlighted a significant association between the primary outcome and general personal and professional reasons, as well as previous experiences abroad, whereas bureaucratic procedures were perceived as the main barrier. Perceived better knowledge about residency programmes and quality of training related to sources of information such as the Internet (blogs, forums, websites) and medical associations., Conclusion: Retention policies are necessary to meet the expectations and requests of future generations of doctors by allocating financial resources to offer high-quality training and broad career opportunities, together with appropriate wages, as crucial factors for discouraging the migration of healthcare professionals.

The Electronic Personal Health Record (EPHR) provides an innovative service for citizens and professionals to manage health data, promoting patient-centred care. It enhances communication between patients and physicians and improves accessibility to documents for remote medical information management. The study aims to assess the prevalence of awareness and acceptance of the EPHR in northern Italy and define determinants and barriers to its implementation. In 2022, a region-wide cross-sectional study was carried out through a paper-based and online survey shared among adult citizens. Univariable and multivariable regression models analysed the association between the outcome variables (knowledge and attitudes toward the EPHR) and selected independent variables. Overall, 1634 people were surveyed, and two-thirds were aware of the EPHR. Among those unaware of the EPHR, a high prevalence of specific socio-demographic groups, such as foreign-born individuals and those with lower educational levels, was highlighted. Multivariable regression models showed a positive association between being aware of the EPHR and educational level, health literacy, and perceived poor health status, whereas age was negatively associated. A higher knowledge of the EPHR was associated with a higher attitude towards the EPHR. The current analysis confirms a lack of awareness regarding the existence of the EPHR, especially among certain disadvantaged demographic groups. This should serve as a driving force for a powerful campaign tailored to specific categories of citizens for enhancing knowledge and usage of the EPHR. Background: After a pneumonia outbreak in late 2019 in China, a new virus related to the Coronaviridae strain, called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), was identified as the pathogen of an emerging disease known as COronaVIrus Disease 19 (COVID-19). Preliminary evidence outlines a higher prevalence in adults and lower susceptibility in children. However, recent epidemiologic research highlighted that transmissibility and susceptibility among children and adolescents become higher due to new virus variants. Infections among youth arises with mainly respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms and malaise. Nevertheless, critical illness affects new-borns and fragile children, requiring hospitalization and possibly intensive care support. Aim of this study was to examine the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on hospital admissions among children and adolescents aged 0 to 17 years over three waves of COVID-19 (from February 2020 to May 2021) in Piedmont, a large Italian region, and to investigate the possible determinants of hospitalizations., Methods: A meta-analysis for risk assessment was performed over three waves of COVID-19 (from February 2020 to May 2021). Data were extracted from the official Italian National Information System and ISTAT., Results: Overall, 442 paediatric patients were enrolled and admissions concerned mostly the age group 0-4 years (60.2%). Trends of hospitalization showed a slight increase of paediatric admissions already in March 2020 and a rise during second and third waves (November 2020, March 2021). Paediatric age-grouped hospitalizations (0-4; 12-17; 5-11) reproduced an analogous trend. The children and adolescent hospitalization rate appeared lower than overall population with a moderate slope of increase in comparison with population slope. Monthly hospitalization rate (per 100,000) of children and adolescents aged 0-17 years reproduced the increasing trend of hospitalization numbers. This trend was influenced, in particular, by the trend of hospitalization rates for children aged 0-4 years. The meta-analysis for risk assessment showed a decreased likelihood of rescue of hospitalizations in female, 5-11 and 12-17 age groups. Conversely, the meta-analysis showed a positive association between foreign nationality and hospitalizations., Conclusions: Our results show a comparable trend of paediatric hospital admissions for COVID-19 and of the entire population hospitalizations over three waves. COVID-19 hospital admissions increase with a bimodal age distribution and the most admissions are among patients aged ≤4 or 5-11 years. Background: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a chronic multisystem disorder requiring comprehensive care that includes newborn screening (NBS) as the first step of care. Italy still lacks a national SCD NBS program and policy on blood disorders. Pilot single-center screening programs and a regional targeted screening have been implemented so far, but more evidence is needed in order to impact health policies., Population and Methods: NBS was offered to parents of newborns in gynecology clinics in Padova and Monza, tertiary care university hospitals in northern Italy. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was performed as the first test on samples collected on Guthrie cards. Molecular analysis of the beta-globin gene was performed on positive samples., Results: A total of 5466 newborns were enrolled; for 5439, informed consents were obtained. A similar family origin was seen in the two centers (65% Italians, 9% mixed couples, 26% immigrants). Compared with SCD NBS programs in the United States and Europe, our results show a similar incidence of SCD patients and carriers. All SCD patients had a Sub-Saharan family background; HbS carriers were 15% Caucasians (Italian, Albanians) and 10% from other areas (North Africa-India-South America); carriers of other hemoglobin variants were mainly (47%) from other areas., Conclusions: Our results demonstrate the feasibility of a multicentric NBS program for SCD, give information on HbS epidemiology in two Northern Italian Areas, and support previous European recommendation for a universal NBS program for SCD in Italy: a high incidence of patients and carriers has been detected, with a high percentage of Caucasian carriers, impossible to identify in a targeted NBS., (© 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)
