Background: Regular physical activity (PA) is a key factor of lifestyle behavior enhancing general health and fitness, especially in people after total hip or knee replacement (THR and TKR). Orthopaedic surgeons can play a primary role in advocating the benefits of an active lifestyle. Aim of the study was 1) to assess the attitude of orthopaedic surgeons towards PA for people after THR/TKR and 2) to compare the attitude between a Northern European (the Netherlands) and a Southern European (Italy) country and analyze which factors influence the attitude towards PA. Methods: A cross-cultural study. An (online) survey was distributed among orthopaedic surgeons in Italy and the Netherlands. Chi-square and Mann–Whitney tests were used to compare surgeons' and clinics' characteristics, and questionnaires' scores, respectively. A linear regression analysis was conducted to assess which surgeon characteristics influence attitude towards PA. Results: A cohort of 159 surgeons (103 Italians and 56 Dutch) was analyzed. The median score of overall orthopaedic surgeons' attitude towards PA was positive (57 out of 72). Dutch surgeons showed a more positive attitude compared to Italian surgeons (p < 0.01). Main difference was found in the "Physical activity concern" factor, where Italian surgeons showed more concern about the negative effects of PA on the survival of the prosthesis. The regression analyses showed that "Country" and "Type of clinic" were associated with the surgeons' attitude. Conclusions: Overall, the orthopaedic surgeons' attitude towards PA for people with THR and TKR was positive. However, Dutch surgeons seem to be more positive compared to the Italian. The country of residence was the item that most influenced attitude. Further investigations are needed to untangle specific factors, such as cultural, socioeconomic, or contextual differences within the variable "country" that may influence orthopaedic surgeons' attitudes towards PA. Earth observation data are useful to analyze the impact of climate-related variables on geomorphological processes. This work aims at evaluating the impact of rainfall on slow-moving landslides, by means of a quantitative procedure for identifying satellite-based displacement clusters, comparing them with rainfall series, and applying statistical tests to evaluate their relationships at the regional scale. The chosen study area is the Basento catchment in the Basilicata region (southern Italy). Rainfall series are gathered from rain gauges and are analyzed to evaluate the presence of temporal trends. Ground displacements are obtained by applying the P-SBAS (Parallel Small BAseline Subset) to three datasets of Sentinel-1 images: T146 ascending orbit, and T51 and T124 descending orbits, for the period 2015–2020. The displacement series of the pixels located in areas mapped as landslides by the Italian Landslide Inventory and sited within rain gauge influence regions (defined as 10 km circular buffers) are studied. Those displacement series are analyzed and compared to the rainfall series to search for correlations, by employing statistical and non-parametric tests. In particular, two landslides are selected and investigated in detail. Significant results were obtained for the T124 descending orbit for both landslides, for a 3-day cumulative rainfall and a 7-day delay of the slope response. Challenges in the whole procedure are highlighted and possible solutions to overcome the raised problems are proposed. In this work, we present a new method based on the compressive sensing (CS) theory to correct phase unwrapping (PhU) errors in the multitemporal sequence of interferograms exploited by advanced differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) techniques to generate deformation time series. The developed algorithm estimates the PhU errors by using a modified $L_{1}$ -norm estimator applied to the interferometric network built in the temporal/spatial baseline plane. Indeed, in order to search the minimum $L_{1}$ -norm sparse solution, we apply the iterative reweighted least-squares method with an improved weight function that takes account of the baseline characteristics of the interferometric pairs. Moreover, we also introduce a quality function to identify those solutions that have no physical meaning. Although the proposed approach can be applied to different multitemporal DInSAR approaches, our analysis is tailored to the full-resolution small baseline subset (SBAS) processing chain that we properly modify to implement the proposed CS-based algorithm. To assess the performance of the developed technique, we carry out an extended experimental analysis based on simulated and real SAR data. In particular, we process two wide SAR datasets acquired by Sentinel-1 and COSMO-SkyMed constellations over central Italy between 2011 and 2019. The achieved experimental results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed approach in retrieving PhU errors and generating displacement time series related to strongly nonlinear deformation phenomena. Purpose: Graft choice for primary anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL-R) is debated, with considerable controversy and variability among surgeons. Autograft tendons are actually the most used grafts for primary surgery; however, allografts have been used in greater frequency for both primary and revision ACL surgery over the past decade. Given the great debate on the use of allografts in ACL-R, the "Allografts for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction" consensus statement was developed among orthopedic surgeons and members of SIGASCOT (Società Italiana del Ginocchio, Artroscopia, Sport, Cartilagine, Tecnologie Ortopediche), with extensive experience in ACL-R, to investigate their habits in the use of allograft in different clinical situations. The results of this consensus statement will serve as benchmark information for future research and will help surgeons to facilitate the clinical decision making.Methods: In March 2017, a formal consensus process was developed using a modified Delphi technique method, involving a steering group (9 participants), a rating group (28 participants) and a peer-review group (31 participants). Nine statements were generated and then debated during a SIGASCOT consensus meeting. A manuscript has been then developed to report methodology and results of the consensus process and finally approved by all steering group members.Results: A different level of consensus has been reached among the topics selected. Strong agreement has been reported in considering harvesting, treatment and conservation methods relevant for clinical results, and in considering biological integration longer in allograft compared to autograft. Relative agreement has been reported in using allograft as the first-line graft for revision ACL-R, in considering biological integration a crucial aspect for rehabilitation protocol set-up, and in recommending a delayed return to sport when using allograft. Relative disagreement has been reported in using allograft as the first-line graft for primary ACL-R in patients over 50, and in not considering clinical results of allograft superior to autograft. Strong disagreement has been reported in using allograft as the first-line graft for primary ACL-R and for skeletally immature patients.Conclusions: Results of this consensus do not represent a guideline for surgeons, but could be used as starting point for an international discussion on use of allografts in ACL-R.Level Of Evidence: IV, consensus of experts. We extend the small baseline subset (SBAS) differential synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (DInSAR) approach to allow the generation of deformation time-series by processing, at the full spatial resolution scale, long sequences of European Remote Sensing (ERS-1 and ERS-2) and Environmental Satellite (ENVISAT) SAR data acquired with the same illumination geometry. In particular, we avoid the generation of ERS/ENVISAT cross-interferograms, which are severely affected by noise phenomena due to the carrier frequency separation of the two SAR systems, and we focus on single-platform interferograms only (i.e. ERS/ERS and ENVISAT/ENVISAT interferograms) that are properly combined by applying the singular value decomposition (SVD)-based SBAS approach. Moreover, we exploit the Doppler centroid variations of the post-2000 acquisitions of the ERS-2 sensor and the carrier frequency difference between the ERS-1/2 and the ENVISAT systems, in order to maximize the number of investigated SAR pixels and to improve their geocoding. The presented results, achieved on two data sets relevant to the Napoli Bay area and to the Murge region, both located in southern Italy, confirm the effectiveness of the extended SBAS technique and demonstrate the relevance of deformation analysis carried out at the scale of single buildings or human-made structures with more than 15 years of ERS and ENVISAT acquisitions. Ground deformation affecting the Umbria region (central Italy) in the 9-year period from 1992 to 2000 was investigated through multi-temporal Differential Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (DInSAR). For the purpose, the Small BAseline Subset (SBAS) technique was adopted, which allows studying the temporal evolution of the detected deformation at two spatial scales: a low-resolution (regional) scale, and a full-resolution (local) scale. For the analysis, SAR data acquired by the European Remote Sensing (ERS-1/2) satellites along ascending and descending orbits were used. The detected deformation was analysed to investigate its relevance to geophysical, geomorphologic, and human-induced processes that may result in hazardous conditions to the population of Umbria. Low-resolution deformation data were used to: (i) determine the amount of displacement caused by the Umbria-Marche earthquake sequence from September 1997 to April 1998 in the Foligno area, (ii) determine the number and percentage of the known landslides that can be monitored by the DInSAR technology in the investigated area, and (iii) identify and measure subsidence induced by exploitation of a confined aquifer in the Valle Umbra. Results indicate that earthquakes moved through the Foligno area westwards up to 3.9 cm and with an uplift reaching 1.7 cm. Intersection in a GIS of the low-resolution deformation maps with a detailed landslide inventory map allowed the determination that the portion of landslides that can be monitored by the SBAS-DInSAR technique in Umbria ranges from 2.7% to 3.4%, and the percentage of the total landslide area ranges from 10.4% to 12.8%. In the Valle Umbra, a dependency was found between the time and the amount of detected ground deformation, and the record of water withdrawal. The full-resolution deformation data were used to investigate the movement of the Ivancich landslide, in the Assisi Municipality. Joint analysis of the spatial and the temporal characteristics of the ground displacement allowed the formulation of a hypothesis on the landslide geometry and deformation pattern. We have exploited the capability of the differential synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (DInSAR) technique, referred to as Small BAseline Subset (SBAS) approach, to analyse surface deformation at two distinct spatial scales: a low resolution, large scale, and a fine resolution, local scale. At the large scale, the technique investigates DInSAR data with a ground resolution of the order of 100 m×100 m and leads to generate mean deformation velocity maps and associated time series for areas extending to some thousands of square kilometres. At the local scale, the technique exploits the SAR images at full spatial resolution (typically of the order of 5 m×20 m), detecting and analysing localized deformation phenomena. The study is focused on the city of Rome, Italy, and we used the ERS-1/2 satellite radar data relevant to the 1995-2000 time period. The presented results demonstrate the capability of the SBAS approach to retrieve, from the low-resolution DInSAR data, large-scale deformation information leading to identify several sites affected by significant displacements. Our analysis permitted us to conclude that a major contribution to the detected displacements is due to the consolidation of the alluvial soils present in the area, mostly enforced by the buildings' overload. Furthermore, in a selected area, a detailed analysis was carried out by exploiting the full resolution DInSAR data. In this case we investigated deformation phenomena at the scale of single buildings. As key result we showed that differential displacements of few mm a-1, affecting single man-made structures or building complexes, could be detected, thus allowing to identify sites that may potentially be involved in critical situations. This paper presents a differential synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (DIFSAR) approach for investigating deformation phenomena on full-resolution DIFSAR interferograms. In particular, our algorithm extends the capability of the small-baseline subset (SBAS) technique that relies on small-baseline DIFSAR interferograms only and is mainly focused on investigating large-scale deformations with spatial resolutions of about 100 x 100 m. The proposed technique is implemented by using two different sets of data generated at low (multilook data) and full (single-look data) spatial resolution, respectively. The former is used to identify and estimate, via the conventional SBAS technique, large spatial scale deformation patterns, topographic errors in the available digital elevation model, and possible atmospheric phase artifacts; the latter allows us to detect, on the full-resolution residual phase components, structures highly coherent over time (buildings, rocks, lava, structures, etc.), as well as their height and displacements. In particular, the estimation of the temporal evolution of these local deformations is easily implemented by applying the singular value decomposition technique. The proposed algorithm has been tested with data acquired by the European Remote Sensing satellites relative to the Campania area (Italy) and validated by using geodetic measurements. Simple Summary: The SARS-CoV2 pandemic forced an abrupt interruption of social contacts and interpersonal affective relationships all over the world, according to national directives. The SARS-CoV2 pandemic imposed an abrupt termination of social contacts and interpersonal affective relationships around the world for a period whose duration depended on national directives This situation caused considerable inconvenience with important repercussions also on the emotional state of people. The dog-human coevolutionary process has led to the development of common cognitive abilities and a marked sociability. In this study, performed through a national survey, we investigated the influence of the first lockdown in the human-dog relationship and to what extent the owners were able to perceive the discomfort of their dog. How much could the lockdown affect our dogs' emotional states? How do owners rate their dogs' quality of life during restrictions? How much did the affectivity and the perception of one's dog as demanding or expensive before and during the lockdown vary in the human-dog relationship? These and other questions were proposed in the survey. The survey analysis highlighted a stability in the interaction and a decrease in the dogs' costs perceived by the owners, considering the human-dog relationship. Furthermore, the evaluation of symptoms revealed a moderate percentage increase in anxious behavior in the dog, probably due to the change of routine. Overall, the human sample did not seem particularly worried about any discomfort experienced by their dog during quarantine. This work presents the development of an efficient tool for managing, visualizing, analysing, and integrating with other data sources, the deformation time-series obtained by applying the advanced differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) techniques. To implement such a tool we extend the functionalities of GeoNode, which is a web-based platform providing an open source framework based on the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards, that allows development of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). In particular, our efforts have been dedicated to enable the GeoNode platform to effectively analyze and visualize the spatio/temporal characteristics of the DInSAR deformation time-series and their related products. Moreover, the implemented multi-thread based new functionalities allow us to efficiently upload and update large data volumes of the available DInSAR results into a dedicated geodatabase. Monitoring surface deformation on dams is commonly carried out by in situ geodetic surveying, which is time consuming and characterized by some limitations in space coverage and frequency. More recently microwave satellite-based technologies, such as advanced-DInSAR (Differential Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry), have allowed the integration and improvement of the observation capabilities of ground-based methods thanks to their effectiveness in collecting displacement measurements on many non-destructive control points, corresponding to radar reflecting targets. The availability of such a large number of points of measurement, which are distributed along the whole structure and are characterized by millimetric accuracy on displacement rates, can be profitably adopted for the calibration of numerical models. These models are implemented to simulate the structural behaviour of a dam under conditions of stress thus improving the ability to maintain safety standards. In this work, after having analysed how advanced DInSAR can effectively enhance the results from traditional monitoring systems that provide comparable accuracy measurements on a limited number of points, an FEM model of the Genzano di Lucania earth dam is developed and calibrated. In this work the long-term DInSAR deformation time series have been jointly exploited with the geological information and the structural characteristics of the buildings, in order to study the interactions between the soils and the man-made structures and to investigate the response of different buildings to the settlements. The presented analysis has been carried out by applying the advanced multi-temporal DInSAR technique referred to as Small BAseline Subset (SBAS) approach to an ERS/ENVISAT SAR dataset, collected over the town of Roma (Italy) in the 1992–2010 time interval. Our study has been performed first at the large spatial scale, and then at the local scale, focusing on some buildings located within the city centre on the eastern side of the Tevere River. The obtained SBAS-DInSAR measurements, analysed in light of the geological setting and the spatial distribution of the settlements, indicate that the observed displacements are mainly linked to a residual consolidation process, correlated with the urbanization and hydrometric level of the Tevere River. The local variation in the deformation rates can be related to the intrinsic variability of the soils filling the alluvial valley and to time since loading application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new natural compound, horridin (1), was isolated from the aerial parts of Centaurea horrida. Its structure as quercetin 3-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->2)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranoside was determined by spectroscopic methods, including 2D NMR.
