Abstract

The article discusses the protocol issued by the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) which would allow pilots with insulin-treated diabetes to operate a commercial aircraft. Topics explored include the required use of a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved device for continuous glucose monitoring, countries that have previously implemented similar guidelines such as Canada and Great Britain, and the expansion of the occupational opportunities for diabetics in the U.S.
