- Abstract
This volume is one of a series of handbooks prepared by Foreign Area Studies (FAS) of The American University, designed to be useful to military and other personnel who need a convenient compilation of basic facts about the social, economic, political and military institutions and practices of various countries. This particular handbook concentrates on the great internal changes which have taken place within modern Iraq, especially since the 14 July Revolution of 1958. An attempt has been made to indicate the extent and import of these changes as well as the trends in significant areas. No fieldwork has been done, but consultants and all the available materials have been used in an effort to analyze the dominant sociological, political and economic aspects of a society in transition and to identify the patterns of thought and behavior of its members.
