Background: Glycogen storage diseases (GSDs) are inherited glycogen metabolic disorders which have various subtypes. GSDs of type I, III, IV, VI, and IX show liver involvement and are considered as hepatic types of GSDs. Thus, liver transplantation (LT) has been proposed as a final therapy for these types of GSD. LT corrects the primary hepatic enzyme defect; however, the long-term outcomes of LT in these patients have not been extensively evaluated so far. There are few reports in the English literature about the outcome of GSD patients after LT. There has been no report from Iran. The present retrospective study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of eight patients with GSD types I, III, and IV who underwent LT in the affiliated hospitals of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, from March 2013 to June 2021. During this period, there were no patients with GSD VI and IX identified in this center.Results: The median time of diagnosis of the GSDs and at transplant was 1 year and 11 years, respectively. All eight transplanted patients were alive at the time of follow-up in this study. None of them required a re-transplant. All of the patients showed normalized liver enzymes after LT with no sign of hypoglycemia.Conclusions: LT is an achievable treatment for end-stage hepatic involvement of GSDs with a cure for metabolic deficiency. Introduction: Metabolic control is a collection of tests and studies related to diabetes performed on a daily basis for 2 to 3 months. Self-efficacy means the belief of an individual in him/herself to successfully perform a particular behavior and expect the associated results. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between metabolic control and selfefficacy in diabetic patients in Qom, Iran. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on a total 325 patients with type II diabetes who referred to Diabetic Community in Qom through simple random sampling. Demographic information and standard self-efficacy in diabetic management questionnaires were used in this study. Fasting blood sugar (FBS) and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) data sheet was used based on the last 3-month test results. Finally, the data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 20) using descriptive indices and analytical tests. Results: The obtained results of this study showed that there was a significant reverse correlation between the mean score of self-efficacy with the mean scores of FBS and HbA1c. There was also a significant difference in self-efficacy scores in terms of gender (P<0.05). According to the results, self-efficacy showed predictive power of FBS and HbA1C reported as 22% and 18%, respectively. Conclusion: The obtained results of this study showed that self-efficacy was at a moderate level among the patients. The levels of FBS and HbA1c did not indicate the optimal control of diabetes. It should be noted that there was a significant reverse correlation between self-efficacy with FBS and HbA1c, indicating that FBS and HbA1c levels decrease with the increase of self-efficacy score. Background: Prevention and treatment of diabetes have an economic burden for the society. Treatment of diabetes is accompanied by the willingness of the patients to control their diabetes. This study aimed to show the effects of intervention based on the transtheoretical model on physical activity and metabolic control of diabetic women. Methods: This was a randomized control trial study which conducted on 98 diabetics women (48: intervention and 50: control) in two health centers in Qazvin, Iran. Patients of each center were placed in intervention group and control group randomly. Data collection tool was a questionnaire, consisting of demographic characteristics, the determination of physical activity (GPAQ) and a questionnaire about TTM constructs in physical activity behavior. The HbA1c determined by blood test. Educational intervention design based on the results of the questionnaire and data analysis and then implemented to the intervention group. Data related to post-test collected three months after the end of the intervention and then measured the HbA1c level. Data analyzed using SPSS software version 19. Results: There was no a significant difference before intervention in demographic variables, the amount of physical activity, HbA1c and constructs model in both groups. There was a significant difference after intervention in the mean constructs model of intervention group than control group (P<0.05). Moreover, there was a significant difference in the mean physical activity of intervention group than control group. While there was no a significant difference in HbA1c level in both groups. Conclusion: Transtheoretical model-based intervention required more consideration in increasing physical activity in chronic diseases. Aims: Diabetes education is a major subject in achieving optimal glycemic control. Effective empowerment approach can be beneficial for improving patients' health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of empowerment model on indicators of metabolic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.Methods: a randomized controlled trial of 103 patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly assigned to either the intervention (empowerment approach training) or the control group (conventional training) 2014. Empowerment approach training were performed for the experimental group for eight weeks. Data collection tool included demographic information form and indicators of metabolic control checklist. Analysis was performed by one-way analysis of variance, chi-square test, paired t-test, independent t-test and multiple linear regression.Results: Before the intervention, two groups were homogeneous in terms of demographic variables, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C), and other indicators of metabolic control. After the intervention, average HbA1C and other metabolic indicators except for LDL showed significant differences in the experimental group compared to the control group.Conclusion: study results indicated the positive effects of applying the empowerment model on the metabolic control indicators. Therefore, applying this model is recommended to nurses and the relevant authorities in order to improve clinical outcomes in diabetic patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Telenursing includes every nursing and care-giving services conducted remotely. In telenursing, telephone as a device, which is available for most of the people, is being used increasingly. In a telephone-based system, patients are being contacted by health care providers on regular bases and they would be provided with some information about their illness and their treatment method. This study was conducted to determine the effect of phone-based follow-ups on diabetes patients' metabolic control in the city of Kerman in Iran. Materials and Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study conducted on 50 type II diabetes patients in Kerman during 2011. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and also by taking physiological measurement of fasting blood suger (FBS), Glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1c), and postprandial glucose (PPG). Participants' body mass index (BMI) was calculated by measuring height and weight. Patients completed the questionnaire at the beginning of the study and 12 weeks later. The patients were randomly divided into two groups of experiment and control. Patients in the experimental group received phone calls by the researcher for 12 weeks, and the follow-ups included instructions on self-care and advices to follow their diets, exercise, and insulin titration. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistical methods (chi-square, analysis of variance [ANOVA], independent t-test, and paired t-test). Results: The decrease of HbA1c and PPG was significantly more in the intervention group compared with the controls (P < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference between the mean of FBS (P = 0.42), and BMI (P = 0.31) in both groups after the intervention. Conclusions: According to the results of this study, telenursing was able to improve the metabolic indices of the patients. The dental status of dentate diabetic adults (n = 299) and its associations with diabetes-related factors was explored in Tehran, Iran. Presence of diabetes-related complications made no difference in mean values of DMFT, but was associated with a higher number of decayed and missing teeth, and fewer filled teeth. Higher level of HbA1c was associated with higher DMFT for men, but not for women. In conclusion, the results suggest a possible association between the level of metabolic control of diabetes mellitus and cumulative caries experience. Copyright © 2007 S.
