Background: The wound healing process, restoring the functionality of the damaged tissue, can be accelerated by various compounds. The recent experimental analysis highlights the beneficial effects of phytochemicals in improving skin regeneration and wound healing. In traditional medicine, one of the widespread plants used for treating different injuries or skin afflictions is Galium aparine L. (GA). Besides, previously reported chemical compounds of GA suggested its therapeutic effects for the wound healing process, yet its regulatory effects on the cellular and molecular stages of the wound healing process have not been investigated. Methods: In the present study, the phytochemical profile of the GA extract was analyzed using HPTLC fingerprinting, and further scientific evaluation of its phytochemicals was done. The wound-healing effects of GA extract were explored at the cellular and molecular levels while accounting for cell toxicity. The wound closure enhancing effect, antibacterial activity, and antioxidant activity were assessed. Results: The HPTLC fingerprinting of the GA extract proved its previously reported phytochemical profile including phenols, flavonoids, tannins, plant acids, ergot alkaloids, flavonoids, anthraquinones, terpenoids, sterols, salicin, lipophilic compounds, saponins, iridoids, and heterocyclic nitrogen compounds. Antimicrobial assessment, of the extract, indicated the more susceptibility of S. aureus to the inhibitory effects of GA rather than E. coli and S. epidermidis. DPPH test results revealed the antioxidant property of GA extract, which was comparable to ascorbic acid. The results of the viability assay showed no cytotoxicity effects on human umbilical endothelial cell (HUVEC) and normal human dermal fibroblast (NHDF) cell lines treated with different concentrations of whole plant extract and cell viability increased in a dose-dependent manner. The results of the scratch assay showed improved cell migration and wound closure. Conclusions: This study shows the anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, and in vitro wound healing wound-healing effects of GA hydroalcoholic extract, which aligns with its use in traditional medicine. No cytotoxicity effects were shown. The results from this study can be the basis for further investigations such as animal models and phytochemical studies. Further evaluation of its effects on mechanisms and signaling pathways involved in the wound healing processes such as angiogenesis and cell proliferation can provide novel insights into the potential therapeutic effects of the GA extract. Although the traditional approach is vital in environmental studies, satellite images have recently become one of the main tools for estimating soil pollution due to their advantages. Among sources of soil pollution, heavy metals (HMs) play a crucial role; in this regard, evaluating the soil contamination anomaly is indispensable due to an enormous number of HMs mines and agricultural land irrigation by industrial sewage in developing countries. Therefore, the main goals of this study are: to evaluate Landsat-8 image capability for estimating HMs content (Cr, Cd, Co, and AS) of the soil, performance evaluation of linear and nonlinear regression models, and topographic influence on the estimation accuracy of heavy metals. To do so, we applied multivariate-linear, partial least square, exponential regression, and neural network models to achieve a relation between the HMs content and soil spectral reflectance. Regarding the R2 value of models, the neural network demonstrated a more acceptable performance than other models. The results show that topographic correction improves the accuracy of HMs estimation; for example, the Minnaert model obtained the highest score (equal to 30.02), which is sufficient to support the preceding sentence. Furthermore, the neural network and Minnaert (with a score of 17.56) would produce the best results for estimating HMs content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, Russian olive trees exhibiting witches'-broom symptoms were collected from urban green areas in Tabriz, in the northwest of Iran. PCR analysis confirmed that phytoplasma caused the disease and, according to the resulting Sanger sequencing electropherogram, a mixed infection with two or more phytoplasma species within the Russian olive trees was revealed. Next-generation sequencing analyses, using the Illumina method, were performed on total DNA from the infected Russian olive plants to recognize the microbial genomic content and assemble the whole genome of the causative pathogen(s). The use of MetaphlAn2 and Kraken2 to analyze species composition revealed the very diverse and unique compositions of different Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic species within the infected plants. Several bacteria and fungi were discovered inside the samples, among which Mycoplasmatota was significantly dominating. Interestingly, the results also revealed a high level of endosymbiotic bacteria and Archaea (Methanobacteria) genome contents within the samples. Bowtie2, metaSPAdes, and CD-HIT pipelines were used to perform the initial genome assembly, and the whole genome of the notable phytoplasma species was assembled and submitted to Genbank. Peach trees showing witches'‐broom disease symptoms in the northwest of Iran were sampled for phytoplasma detection. PCR assays and Sanger sequence analyses indicated that ʻCandidatus Phytoplasma phoeniciumʼ was associated with peach witchesʼ‐broom disease. Virtual RFLP analyses of the 16S rRNA gene indicated that ʻCa. Phytoplasma phoeniciumʼ strain, which was prevalent in the northwest of Iran belonged to 16SrIX‐C subgroup. For the genomic characterization of Iranian ʻCa. Phytoplasma phoeniciumʼ strain, total DNA extracted from the infected peach trees was subjected to Illumina next‐generation sequencing. The NGS sequencing resulted in 41157647 read pairs of raw data. The raw reads length was 150 bp and the insert size was 350 bp. Assembly and genes clustering finally resulted in 750 contigs with a total size of 228345 bp. The GC content of sequence was 33.2%, N50 value was 259 and L50 value was 256. According to NCBI‐ PGAP annotation the genome of Prunus persica phytoplasma PP2 contained 410 genes including 377 CDSs with protein, 10 rRNAs, nine tRNAs and 14 pseudogenes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Colorectal cancer has increased in Middle Eastern countries and exposure to environmental pollutants such as heavy metals has been implicated. However, data linking them to this disease are generally lacking. This study aimed to explore the spatial pattern of age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) of colon cancer and its potential association with the exposure level of the amount of heavy metals existing in rice produced in north-eastern Iran.Methods: Cancer data were drawn from the Iranian population-based cancer registry of Golestan Province, north-eastern Iran. Samples of 69 rice milling factories were analysed for the concentration levels of cadmium, nickel, cobalt, copper, selenium, lead and zinc. The inverse distance weighting (IDW) algorithm was used to interpolate the concentration of this kind of heavy metals on the surface of the study area. Exploratory regression analysis was conducted to build ordinary least squares (OLS) models including every possible combination of the candidate explanatory variables and chose the most useful ones to show the association between heavy metals and the ASR of colon cancer.Results: The highest concentrations of heavy metals were found in the central part of the province and particularly counties with higher amount of cobalt were shown to be associated with higher ASR of men with colon cancer. In contrast, selenium concentrations were higher in areas with lower ASR of colon cancer in men. A significant regression equation for men with colon cancer was found (F(4,137) = 38.304, P < .000) with an adjusted R2 of 0.77. The predicted ASR of men colon cancer was - 58.36 with the coefficients for cobalt = 120.33; cadmium = 80.60; selenium = - 6.07; nickel = - 3.09; and zinc = - 0.41. The association of copper and lead with colon cancer in men was not significant. We did not find a significant outcome for colon cancer in women.Conclusion: Increased amounts of heavy metals in consumed rice may impact colon cancer incidence, both positively and negatively. While there were indications of an association between high cobalt concentrations and an increased risk for colon cancer, we found that high selenium concentrations might instead decrease the risk. Further investigations are needed to clarify if there are ecological or other reasons for these discrepancies. Regular monitoring of the amount of heavy metals in consumed rice is recommended. In this article, a new approach is developed for discrimination of calcite (limestone) and dolomite (dolostone) by utilizing data of Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER). The study area is located at the Zagros Mountains, SW Iran, in which outcrops of sedimentary carbonate rocks are abundant. The approach exploits short-wave infrared spectral features of dolomite and calcite and is based on the spectral variations of these minerals in bands 7 and 8 of ASTER imagery. In order to evaluate the efficacy of the method, spectral analysis was carried out on the spectra of dolomite, dolostone, calcite, and limestone, available in ASTER spectral library. The statistical analysis of the spectra showed that dolomite and calcite have distinguishable b8/b7 band ratios. Spectral measurements of rock samples and knowledge of the mineral composition of rock samples attained by staining carbonate rocks in Alizarin red-S solution were used to evaluate the method used in this study. The applied imagery was normalized by the internal average relative reflectance (IARR) method due to the arid and semiarid climate of the region. The results showed that combined with spectral measurements of rock samples, the ((b5 + b9)/b7)/((b6 + b9)/b8), and b8/b7 band ratios can be used to effectively discriminate limestone and dolostone. This approach is completely independent of variations in illumination conditions of image pixels; therefore, topographic correction of the image is not needed. Background and Aims: Since recurrent caries are one of the major causes of failure in resin restorations, the production of antibacterial resin composites was always under investigation. The aim of this study is evaluating the efficacy of fissure sealants containing nanosilver particles against the Streptococcus mutans. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study the antibacterial properties of two non fluoride & fluoride containing sealants resins incorporating 0, 0.01, 0.02 , 0.03 , 0.04 ,0.05% w/w of nano silver was investigated using direct contact test. Sealants formed on the walls of 500ml microtube and after curing, they left in contact with bacterial suspension. In times of 3, 24, 48h, a 10 μl volume of liquid medium was placed in blood agar culture and after 24 h incubation at 37°C, the number S.mutans colony was counted by colony counter. Results: Results reported fluoride containing sealants comparing to non fluoride ones had significant effect on inhibition of S.mutans growth (P<0.05). The direct contact test demonstrates that by increasing the amount of nano particles, the bacterial growth has been significantly diminished (P<0.001). Conclusion: While fluoride containing sealants demonstrate antibacterial effect but in sealants with incorporation higher weight percentage of silver nano particle, this effect been masked and nano particle have got stronger and more significant antibacterial effect in direct contact test. Background: Hospitals are the most important health organization and consume major part of health system`s budgets. Downsizing is one of the strategies used for providing suitable services in hospitals. This study was conducted to do a systematic search for hospital downsizing methods and theirs consequences in order to choose suitable method for Iran. Materials & Methods: Related Articles were identified by systematic search on databases such as Medlib, SID, Pub Med, Science Direct and Google Scholar meta search engine using keywords like Downsizing, Hospital Downsizing, Hospital Rightsizing, Hospital Restructuring, Staff Downsizing, Hospital Merger, Hospital Reorganization and Persian equivalents. 379 articles were extracted and refined step by step. Finally, 25 articles were selected according to study`s goals. Results: The identified downsizing methods included reducing the number of employees and hospital beds, outsourcing, merging hospital wards and combination of fore mentioned methods. The most important consequences of using these methods were: cost, revenue, outpatient visits and surgery, length of stay and hospital admission rates, mortality rate, stakeholder satisfaction, workload of employees mental health and absenteeism . Conclusion: study results indicated that different methods of downsizing are used for providing suitable services and decreasing costs in hospitals. Using Merger and outsourcing are suggested among different methods in hospital wards according to current situation of our country. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
