Introduction: Hypertensive patients may lack time to visit clinics and attend educational sessions, resulting in poor blood pressure control. Uncontrolled blood pressure in people with hypertension can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Objective: The specific purpose of this study was to determine the effect of online group education on knowledge, motivation, self-efficacy, self-care behavior, and blood pressure control of hypertensive patients. Method: The research method used a quasi-experiment method. The subjects were hypertensive patients in Indonesia. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. Total sampling consisted of 96 participants, consisting of 48 intervention groups and 48 control groups. The inclusion criteria in the study were patients with primary hypertension who were willing to become research respondents. The exclusion criteria in this study were respondents who were sick and unable to follow therapy, had hearing problems, and had complications of other diseases (kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes mellitus, and stroke). Data collection methods include observation. The instruments used were the HKLS, HBP-SCP questionnaire, and Sphygmomanometer digital. Result: Data analysis using repeated ANOVA and Friedman tests. There was a significant decrease in systolic (p <.001) and diastolic (p =.001) blood pressure and an increase in knowledge (p <.001), motivation (p <.001), self-efficacy (p <.001), and self-care behavior (p <.001) in the intervention group. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 12 March 2020. Indonesia is reported to have the highest number of cases in Southeast Asia. Accurate prediction of the number of COVID-19 cases in the upcoming few days is required as one of the considerations in making decisions to provide appropriate recommendations in the process of mitigating global pandemic infectious diseases. In this research, a metaheuristics optimization algorithm, the flower pollination algorithm, is used to forecast the cumulative confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. The flower pollination algorithm is a robust and adaptive method to perform optimization for curve fitting of COVID-19 cases. The performance of the flower pollination algorithm was evaluated and compared with a machine learning method which is popular for forecasting, the recurrent neural network. A comprehensive experiment was carried out to determine the optimal hyperparameters for the flower pollination algorithm and recurrent neural network. There were 24 and 72 combinations of hyperparameters for the flower pollination algorithm and recurrent neural network, respectively. The best hyperparameters were used to develop the COVID-19 forecasting model. Experimental results showed that the flower pollination algorithm performed better than the recurrent neural network in long-term (two weeks) and short-term (one week) forecasting of COVID-19 cases. The mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) for the flower pollination algorithm model (0.38%) was much lower than that of the recurrent neural network model (5.31%) in the last iteration for long-term forecasting. Meanwhile, the MAPE for the flower pollination algorithm model (0.74%) is also lower than the recurrent neural network model (4.8%) in the last iteration for short-term forecasting of the cumulative COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. Aim: To investigate the barriers and facilitators of foot care practice in diabetic patients in Indonesia. Design: A qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. Method: Semi‐structured interviews were conducted on 34 type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, health providers and family members in Purwokerto, Indonesia, between July 2020 and December 2020. The interview transcripts were coded using NVivo 12. Results: Four themes emerged from data analysis, including personal barriers (low susceptibility of developing foot ulcer, limited knowledge about foot care, fatalistic practices, financial problems, glucose control taking priority over foot care, lack of motivation, lack of confidence, fear of being labelled), environmental barriers (lack of knowledge and time of health providers, lack of family support and climate conditions), perceived foot health benefits (intention to feel better and desire to stay socially active) and religious practices (foot washing as part of religious practice and intention to feel clean before praying). Background. The global burden of stroke is still high, particularly in developing countries, with hypertension serving as the main risk factor. The awareness of stroke among hypertensive patients is crucial for stroke prevention. This study was aimed at identifying the awareness of being at risk of stroke and its determinant factors among hypertensive patients in Banyumas, Indonesia. Methods. This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in Banyumas Regency, Indonesia, from April to August 2019. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the representatives' PHCs. Hypertensive patients who came regularly to the PHCs were consecutively recruited. Data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire and medical records. The main outcome was the level of participants' awareness of being at risk of stroke. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to measure determinant factors associated with the level of awareness. Results. Out of 457 patients investigated, 77.46% had a low level of awareness. Low knowledge of hypertension, low income, and no history of previous stroke were associated with a low-level of awareness (odds ratio (OR) 1.942, 95% CI 1.195-3.158, p 0.007; OR 2.321, 95% CI 1.326-4.064, p 0.003; and OR 6.033, 95% CI 2.450-14.858, p < 0.001 , respectively). Conclusion. Majority of hypertensive patients were unaware of being at risk of stroke. Knowledge of hypertension, income, and history of previous stroke are factors that may influence the awareness of being at risk of stroke among them. Background: It is well known that diabetes mellitus (DM) affects health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in both younger (aged 18-64 years) and older adults (aged ≥ 65 years). However, to date, no study has compared HRQOL and its predictors between younger and older adults with DM in Indonesia. Such a comparison is important because the results can guide nurses and clinicians to establish evidence-based educational programs that are specific and suitable for patients. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the difference in HRQOL and its predictors in younger and older adults with DM in Indonesia.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 641 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who were recruited via simple random sampling from 16 primary health centers in Banyumas Regency, Indonesia. A self-administered questionnaire containing the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities, the DDS17 Bahasa Indonesia, the Beck Depression Inventory II, the Self-Efficacy for Diabetes Scale, the Family APGAR, and the 36-item Short-Form Health Survey was used to measure diabetes self-management (DSM), diabetes distress (DD), depression, self-efficacy, family support, and HRQOL, respectively. Independent t-tests were used to compare the physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) scores between younger and older adults with T2DM. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were used to examine the factors associated with HRQOL in both groups.Results: PCS scores were significantly different between the two groups. Older adults reported lower PCS scores than younger adults. No differences between the two groups were observed in the MCS scores. The hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that level of education, employment status, number of diabetes-related complications, DSM, DD, depression, and self-efficacy were significant predictors of HRQOL in younger adults, while income, depression, DD, and self-efficacy were significant predictors of HRQOL in older adults. DD was the strongest predictor of HRQOL in younger adults, and depression was the strongest predictor in older adults.Conclusion: Older adult patients had lower PCS scores than younger adult patients. This study is the first to show that the predictors of HRQOL differ between younger and older adults with T2DM. Objectives: Previous studies have shown that diabetic foot ulcers are principally associated with improper foot self-care. Since appropriate foot self-care is essential to prevent diabetic foot-ulcers, any factors which can predict foot self-care behavior should be identified. However, until now, foot self-care behavior data and predictors of foot-care behavior in Indonesia remain unclear since such studies on Indonesian diabetic patients is very limited. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate foot self-care behavior and to identify its predictors in Indonesia. The design of this study was cross-sectional. Cluster sampling was used, involving 546 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients registered in 22 primary healthcare centers. The questionnaires used in this study included the Diabetes Distress Scale, Beck Depression Inventory II, Family APGAR, Foot-Care Knowledge and Modified Diabetic Foot Care Behaviors. Results: Foot self-care behavior and knowledge about foot care were poor. The predictors of foot self-care behavior were age, educational level, diabetes distress, family support, and knowledge. It needs the program to improve foot self-care knowledge and the program to reduce the diabetes distress in Indonesian diabetic patients. Background: Diabetic foot ulcer will cause a reduction in quality of life (QOL), high care burden, and even mortality. An assessment of QOL and associated factors in patients with diabetic foot ulcer is important to provide evidence for establishing a care plan program for such patients. However, up to the present, there is no evidence of a published study that investigates the QOL and its associated factors in patients with diabetic foot ulcer in Indonesia. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the QOL in patients with diabetic foot ulcer in each domain and investigate the factors associated with this condition. Methods: The design of this study was a cross-sectional study. The total sample for this study was 55 patients. The QOL data were collected using a Diabetic Foot Ulcer Scale questionnaire. Statistical analyses were conducted using Mann-Whitney U-test and Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The result showed that the QOL in the domains of emotions, positive compliance, family life, and friend were high, while the QOL in the domains of daily activities, physical health, leisure, finances, positive attitude, and treatment ranged from low to average. Significant differences were found between income (p=0.004), grade of the wound (p=0.047), number of wounds (p=0.029), and blood glucose (p=0.013) with QOL of patients. Other variables did not have a significant relationship with QOL, but marital status had a significant correlation with the domain of leisure (p=0.004) and duration of the ulcer had a significant correlation with the domain of emotions (p=0.001) Conclusion: There is a correlation between income, grade of the wound, the number of wounds, and blood glucose with QOL of patients with a diabetic foot ulcer. This study recommends to take into account economic status, grade and number of wound, and blood glucose level in order to improve the QOL of patients for an effective patient care plan. Clinicians and wound care nurses in Indonesia usually use Nigella sativa oil (NSO) gel and aloe vera (AV) gel to treat diabetic ulcers. However, there are no studies directly comparing the effects of NSO and AV gels on wound healing, so it is unknown which of these 2 plants is better at promoting wound healing in diabetic ulcers. If the comparative efficacy between these 2 gels was known, it would be important evidence favoring the clinical use of one or the other product in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the effectiveness of NSO and AV gels on wound healing in a rat model of diabetic ulcers. This experimental study involved 3 groups: NSO gel, AV gel, and controls. Our study showed that from day 5 onward, necrotic tissue and inflammation decreased in the AV gel group compared with the other groups. The wound areas on days 6 (P = .020) and 7 (P = .021) were significantly smaller in the AV gel group than in the NSO gel group. Reepithelialization was also better in the AV gel group than in the other groups. This is the first study to compare the effects of AV and NSO gels on wound healing in diabetic ulcers. Our study indicates that the AV gel is better than the NSO gel. Therefore, it is recommended that clinicians and wound care nurses use AV gel instead of NSO gel for the topical treatment of diabetic ulcers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Nurses' knowledge and attitude are critical for pressure injury (PI) prevention. However, to date, there has been little research carried out on the knowledge and attitude of Indonesian nurses regarding PI prevention in hospital settings, and no study has investigated the predictors of knowledge and attitude of Indonesian nurses regarding PI prevention. This study therefore aims to investigate knowledge and attitude, and to identify the predictors of knowledge and attitude regarding PI prevention among Indonesian nurses in hospital settings., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between 1st November 2021 and 5th March 2022. A total of 563 nurses from three general hospitals in Central Java Province participated. The Pressure Ulcer Knowledge Assessment Tool 2.0 and the Attitude Pressure Ulcer Prevention questionnaires were used. A multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the predictors of nurses' knowledge and attitude regarding PI prevention., Results: The percentage of correct answers was 35.02%, indicating poor knowledge, while the percentage of nurses' attitudes was 75.46%, indicating a satisfactory attitude. The predictors of knowledge of PI prevention were found to be age (β = -0.127, p = 0.025), level of education (β = 0.153, p = 0.001) and income (β = 0.107, p = 0.021), while the predictors of attitude toward PI prevention were level of education (β = 0.101, p = 0.020) and professional position (β = 0.093, p = 0.033)., Conclusion: This is the first study to identify the predictors of attitude and knowledge regarding PI prevention in Indonesian nurses in a hospital setting. Objective: The prevalence of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) usage among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Indonesia is high. However, to date, little is known about why Indonesian T2DM patients choose CAM therapies, how their knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of CAM affects their choices, or how demographics correlate with patient choices. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the KAP and predictors of CAM usage in T2DM patients in Indonesia., Methods: This was an observational, cross-sectional study. Patients were interviewed using a questionnaire. Chi-square tests or Fisher's exact tests were used to compare demographic and clinical data, as well as KAP assessments, between T2DM patients who use and do not use CAM. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to investigate predictors of CAM usage., Results: A total of 628 T2DM patients were enrolled in the study. CAM therapies were used by 341 patients (54.3%). The most common therapies were herbs and spiritual healing, used by 100.0% and 68.3% of CAM-using patients, respectively. CAM therapies were frequently recommended by family members (91.5%), and CAM users had significantly more knowledge and more positive attitudes toward CAM therapies than nonusers. Among users, 66% said they would not follow their healthcare providers' instructions to not use CAM therapies, and 69.5% said they would not disclose their plan to use CAM therapies with their healthcare provider. Neither demographic nor clinical characteristics were associated with CAM use. The factors that best predicted the use of CAM therapies were their availability and low cost (odds ratio [OR] = 4.59; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.01-7.01), the belief that CAM therapies were safe (OR = 2.04; 95% CI: 1.40-2.95), the belief that CAM therapies could help with diabetes control (OR = 1.75; 95% CI: 1.15-2.66), and the belief that CAM therapies could help maintain physical health (OR = 1.68; 95% CI: 1.13-2.49)., Conclusion: CAM therapy users were more knowledgeable and had more positive attitudes toward CAM, but most of them chose not to disclose their CAM use to their healthcare providers. CAM use in Indonesia was associated with its accessibility, affordability, safety and effectivity, but not with any demographic or clinical characteristics.
