Background/Aims: Diastasis rectus abdominis is common in postpartum mothers but few studies have examined its traditional treatments. This study's aim was to explore postpartum mothers' experiences of abdominal care and Javanese cultural care. Methods: This phenomenological study was conducted in rural Yogyakarta, Indonesia from May to December 2022. A total of 13 purposively selected postpartum mothers were interviewed using a semi-structured in-depth guide. Data were analysed thematically. Results: The five main themes were symptoms interfere with activities and appearance, traditional and non-traditional abdominal care, benefits of and barriers to traditional care, regular use of traditional care and the need for more effective, comfortable and practical tools. Conclusions: Both traditional and non-traditional care for postpartum abdominal issues present challenges. There is a need for more effective, comfortable and practical treatment for the abdominal area. Background: Financial toxicity has been shown to negatively affect cancer patients' quality of life, depression, anxiety, and even mortality rates. However, there is only limited data on financial toxicity and its associated factors, which are needed to address this problem in Indonesia. Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors associated with financial toxicity in cancer patients in Indonesia. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study that recruited respondents at a cancer health center in Indonesia using a convenience sampling method. A total of 110 adult cancer patients undergoing treatment took part in the study. The questionnaires comprised sociodemographic data, clinical characteristics, and the Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity (COST). Logistic regression was performed to achieve the study's aim. Results: The median value of the financial toxicity index was 3.01 (min-max=1-5), indicating a medium level of financial toxicity. Occupational status was the only factor found to be associated with financial toxicity in this study. The participants who were unemployed were 2.389 more likely to have a higher financial toxicity level compared to those who were employed (OR=2.389; p=0.048). Conclusion: Unemployment was identified to be associated with financial toxicity among cancer patients. Nurses should assess and assist patients in utilizing financial resources and develop strategies to manage extra costs that burden them financially. Future nationwide studies are essential to provide more robust evidence on multifaceted factors influencing financial toxicity and inform policy-making aimed at effectively addressing financial toxicity. Introduction: Breast cancer is now one of the leading causes of death and morbidity worldwide, including in Indonesia. Every health care professional and community member should pay close attention to these issues. Women diagnosed with breast cancer will experience physical, psychological, and social issues. Methods: This study looked into breast cancer patients' experiences with holistic nursing care. The complexity of the difficulties confronting breast cancer patients will influence their experiences and perceptions, necessitating a holistic approach to nursing services. A qualitative exploratory, descriptive method was adopted in the investigation. During data collection, fifteen participants were recruited and interviewed. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was utilized to collect data. Result: The study's findings provide five significant themes: (1) knowledge and understanding of breast cancer; (2) experiences felt at the beginning of breast cancer complaints; (3) non-health breast cancer treatment; (4) perception of nursing services received by breast cancer patients; (5) facts and holistic needs during and beyond treatment; and (6) patients' expectations of nursing services to help their needs. Background/Aims Antenatal care is important for screening, monitoring and management of pregnancy risks. This study analysed determinants of antenatal care in Indonesia among women aged 18-24 years and older than 30 years, who are at greater risk of pregnancy and birth complications. Methods This cross-sectional study used secondary data from 4338 women in the 2017 Indonesian demographic health survey. Chi-square tests and binary logistic regression were used to explore the effects of individual, partner and social factors on antenatal care. Results Antenatal care attendance was associated with a younger age at first birth (adjusted odds ratio: 1.49; P<0.001), health insurance (adjusted odds ratio: 1.54; P=0.004) and the middle wealth quintile (adjusted odds ratio: 1.78; P=0.002). As the fourth highest cancer in Indonesia, colorectal cancer (CRC) is one paramount cancer issue that requires urgent healthcare management. Most CRC survivors must undergo ostomy surgery to prevent malignancy and death. The stoma formation negatively impacts the ostomates' quality of life as it predominantly affects these people's sexual function, satisfaction, and social life. This study explores in-depth sexual experiences and perspectives of people living with a stoma and their physical, psychological, and cultural influences. This phenomenological qualitative study involved 12 female and male ostomates recruited purposively from the National Cancer Centre Hospital in Indonesia. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews, managed using Nvivo 12, and analysed thematically. The contextual findings highlighted four significant themes: sexual disruptions, revealing strategies for sexual adjustments, support from the marital partner, and limited support from the healthcare professionals. An interdisciplinary team supporting the sexual needs of the ostomates is necessary to improve strategies for adjusting to the sexual disruptions after CRC therapy. Objectives: Palliative heart surgery is a compelling option for some children with congenital heart disease for which corrective heart surgery is not yet possible due to its complexity. As primary caregivers, mothers have the challenge of providing optimal care to their children at home post-surgery. This study aims to explore the experiences of mothers who are caring for children recovering from palliative heart surgery at home. The research applied descriptive, qualitative and phenomenology design. Material and Methods: This study was conducted in Jakarta. The participants were 15 mothers of palliative heart surgery patients from seven provinces in Indonesia; Jakarta, Aceh, Bali, North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java and Banten. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews through the WhatsApp video call application and analysed using the Colaizzi method. Results: Mothers often felt uncertain about how to provide the best care and felt that their needs for hospital services to assist them went unmet. Introduction: The process of delivery through sectio caesarea is a complex event and causes anxiety. Anxiety that occurs can have a negative impact on mothers and babies born. This study aims to determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) on the level of anxiety of mother's before sectio caesarea at Dinda's Hospital, Tangerang City. Methods: The research method uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group conducted on 36 respondents with a simple random sampling technique. Intrument of this study used Zung Self-Report Anxiety Scale (ZSAS) to measure mother's anxiety levels. Intervention delivered to the respondent by researcher a day before enter the operating room. Data processing using editing, coding, cleaning and analysis, to test the effect of PMR to mother's anxiety level, data analysis used independent paired T-test. Results: Result of the analysis show that the provision of PMR techniques can reduce score anxiety levels by 8.2, from 58.3 before intervention to 50.1. The results show that independent paired t-test obtained p-value of 0.001 which means that there is a significant effect between the level of anxiety of the mothers before SC surgery compare with control group. Background: Breast cancer is one of the major cancer types found among Indonesian women. This cancer diagnosis and its treatment causes perpetual financial burden for the women and their family. This study aims to identify the correlation between socio-demographics with financial toxicity among women with breast cancer in Indonesia. Design and methods: This study design was cross-sectional with 109 respondents of Indonesian breast cancer survivors who were recruited using consecutive sampling. Quantitative data were collected with a demographic and a Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity (COST) questionnaires, then analyzed using Chi-Square test and linear regression method. Results: The majority of the women were 18 to 55-years-old (75.2%), married (91.7%), employed (80.7%), and having moderate income (58.7%). Logistic regression analysis indicates that survivor's family as a primary wage earner (p=0.042), low-high income (p=0.043), and dependents number (p=0.012) are significantly associated with financial toxicity. Conclusions: The financial toxicity among women with breast cancer was mainly correlated with the number of survivor's dependent and the household income. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the experiences of sexual relationship after a nurse-led psychosexual intervention for Indonesian cervical cancer survivors and their husbands. Design: A qualitative descriptive study was conducted. Participants and methods: Sixteen cervical cancer survivors and their husbands who had participated in the nurse-led psychosocial intervention were invited for semi-structured in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings: Four themes were identified: (1) lessening suffering; (2) supporting each other to regain sexual life (2a) finding reasons to do or undo sexual intercourse, (2 b) "How can I bring back my wife's sexual desire?," (2c) "Finally, I get to a climax;" (3) getting more intimate and caring about each other, and (4) "Now I'm getting more confident." Cervical cancer survivors and their husbands experienced overall positive outcomes in their sexual and intimate relationship after a psychosexual intervention. Conclusions: The psychosexual intervention helped the survivors and their husbands adapt and manage sexual dysfunction following cancer treatment. Nurses and other healthcare professionals should initiate psychosexual care by assessing the concerns and needs of women diagnosed with cervical cancer, as an integral part of their care plan. Background: Cervical cancer have significant impacts on the quality of life (QOL) of the women experiencing it. Limited studies are exploring QOL among Indonesian women diagnosed with cervical cancer. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the QOL of women with cervical cancer who received radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate the QOL among 164 women with cervical cancer undergoing treatment. A consecutive sampling technique was used to recruit the samples. The EORTC QLQ-C 30 and QLQ-CX 24 were used to measure the QOL and sexual-related symptoms. The data collected were analyzed and presented as descriptive statistics in the form of means and standard deviations. Results: The mean of the global health status of general well-being and QOL of the women was 54.56 ± 25.47. In the QOL subgroups of functional status, the physical function (55.94) and role functions (55.34) were most frequently reported to affect QOL. Regarding sexual-related symptoms of the women, sexual worry (52.72) and menopause symptoms (48.03) were the two most prevalent symptoms which impacted QOL. Conclusions: The quality of life of women with cervical cancer in Indonesia was generally at the higher end of the scale, and yet the majority of the women reported high prevalent symptoms of cancer and adverse effects of treatments. Comprehensive, high quality and culturally sensitive care for women with cervical cancer needs to be implemented in Indonesia, which has unique social and cultural beliefs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study is to describe the sexual compulsivity of Indonesian college students. We used a cross-sectional design and recruited 301 college students in Universitas Indonesia. Data were collected using the modified Sexual Compulsivity Scale (SCS) instrument. These findings show that Indonesian students have lower sexual compulsivity scale (mean: 11.39 ± 4.21). Male students have significantly higher SCS score than female students (p = 0.000). Working students were also found to have a higher SCS score than those who did not work (p = 0.039). Further studies on sexual compulsivity among young adults in Indonesia are deemed necessary to give more understanding about sexual compulsivity. Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) is the most common psychological issue amongst gynecological cancer survivors, and yet it remains unexplored, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. Hence, this study aimed to identify the predictive factors of FCR among gynecological cancer survivors in Indonesia. A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. Women diagnosed with gynecological cancer, who had completed primary treatment were recruited from a referral hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia. Data were collected using a demographic and disease-related questionnaire and the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory. Pearson's correlations test, t-test, and linear regression analysis were performed. A total of 114 women participated in this study. Age was the strongest predictor of FCR in the domains of severity, psychological distress, insights, and reassurance. Marital status and type of treatment strongly predicted the FCR domains of functional impairment and coping strategies, respectively (P < .05). The findings of this study indicate the importance of patient characteristics while addressing the issue of FCR among gynecological cancer survivors. Further studies aimed at understanding FCR among gynecological cancer survivors may provide insight into the aspects of this condition that necessitate more attention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Women living with HIV (WLWH) commonly grieve but may pass through the grieving process until reaching the acceptance stage. We try to identify the relationship between children's HIV status and the acceptance stage of grief amongst WLWH. Method: This cross-sectional study utilised consecutive sampling of 235 HIV-positive women in Jakarta, Indonesia. The women were assessed with the Acceptance of Disease and Impairments Questionnaire (ADIQ). Results: Most of the respondents were housewives (65.5%), had been diagnosed over one year previously (74.5%), had an HIV-positive spouse (60.4%), had more than one child (51.5%) but none who were infected (73.6%) and assumed that their HIV status was caused by their spouse (50.2%). The respondents' median score of acceptance of their HIV status was relatively high (3 on a 1-4 scale). This showed a significant negative correlation between children's HIV status and the acceptance stage amongst HIV-positive women (p = 0.01). Conclusion: Motherto- child HIV transmission may disrupt the mother's acceptance stage because of feelings of guilt and difficulty disclosing their status. Because the children's HIV status was correlated with the mother's acceptance stage, WLWH must comply with the Preventing Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) program during the perinatal period. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to provide a greater understanding of the experience of the new Indonesian mother. Design: This study was a hermeneutic phenomenological study. Data were obtained from 13 first time Indonesian mothers through semi-structured interviews. Findings: Two main themes were identified: "trying to be a good mother " and "confirming my destiny as a woman." A number of subthemes were identified to understand of how women in rural West Java perceived the meaning of being a new mother. These themes and subthemes described the woman's responsibilities as a new mother and some of the challenges that she accepted as a part of her destiny. Conclusion: This study provides nurses and others with insights into the experiences of Indonesian women with early motherhood, their feelings about taking on the mothering role, and some of their needs during this period. Cervical cancer often leads to sexuality and intimacy concerns for the affected woman within a marital relationship.This study aimed to explore physical sexual concerns and their impact on the intimate partner relationships experienced by cervical cancer survivors. Using a descriptive phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with Indonesian women survivors of cervical cancer. Two themes and five sub-themes were constructed from the thematic analysis. The first theme was the physical sexual concerns following cervical cancer treatment, with the subthemes: red spotting and massive vaginal discharge after having sexual intercourse; narrower, smaller and less lubricated vagina; pain during sexual intercourse; feeling of shortened vagina as if it had been cut. The second theme of impact of sexual concerns on intimate partner had five subthemes of: looking for reasons to refuse sexual intercourse; prejudice towards the spouse; feeling forced to fulfil husband's sexual needs; accepting spouse's anger; willingness to let the spouse marry another woman. The findings provide nurses with a greater understanding on how women adapt to their altered sexuality and intimacy with their partner following cancer treatments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This grounded theory study aimed to explore the cultural practices and behaviours, which lead to unsuccessful exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesian mothers. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews carried out with 8 key participants (breastfeeding mothers) and 10 general participants (family members and health cadre). Four categories: the initial breastfeeding practice following delivery, the decision making surrounding the efforts to maintain breastfeeding, when to wean the baby onto other types of milk or food, and the consequences of weaning the baby, and two corresponding subcategories: external and internal factors that influence the decision making to wean the baby emerged from comparative analysis. Results from this study confirmed that women believed that they produced insufficient breast milk, which led them to wean their babies before the recommended age of 6 months. This belief arose from a complex process and was strongly affected by various biopsychosocial factors. The results of this study will be useful in designing culturally sensitive nursing care and health programmes to support optimal breastfeeding for women of Indonesian origin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Gynecological cancer inpatients and outpatients may have distinct supportive nursing care needs. This study aimed to compare the supportive care needs between these two patient cohorts. Methods: This cross-sectional comparison analytic study aimed to identify the differences between the supportive nursing care needs of the gynecological cancer inpatients and outpatients. Data were collected from 200 participants who were recruited through consecutive sampling method. Results: The results showed that gynecological cancer inpatients needed more supportive nursing care than the outpatients. The most reported supportive nursing care needs of the inpatients were in the domains of physical (80%) and the psychological (84%). Whilst, the outpatients needed more health information support (78%). There was a significant difference between the supportive nursing care needs of gynecological cancer inpatients and outpatients (p value = 0.001). Supportive nursing care needs of the inpatients were 44 times higher compared to those of the outpatients. Conclusions: The gynecological cancer inpatients and outpatients need supportive nursing care differently. Therefore, nurses should assess supportive care needs of their patients early during the care in each setting so that the intervention could be tailored to the patient's individual needs. Objective: This study explores the sexual and social adjustments of the partners of gynecological cancer survivors in Indonesia., Method: Phenomenological research interviewed seven male participants whose spouses sought gynecological cancer treatment at the Army Hospital in Jakarta from July to August 2020. The collected data were transcribed and thematically analyzed., Results: The male partners described their loss of sexual desire and intimacy. Objectives: This study aimed to gain insight into the unmet care needs and health care service barriers experienced by Indonesian gynecological cancer survivors after cancer therapy., Data Sources: Twenty purposively selected women who had completed gynecological cancer therapy for at least 1 year participated in a descriptive qualitative study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and thematically analyzed., Conclusion: The analysis constructed two themes and seven subthemes: (a) unmet care needs (subthemes: late side effects; cancer recurrence; stigma of cancer transmission; social-economic concerns), (b) deficient functions of health care services (subthemes: short consultation time; unempathetic health professionals; and inefficient time and cost for the health care services).
