Teaching English speaking has become a centre of attention among scholars and teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) practitioners for a few decades. However, the issue of teaching English speaking in "Kampung Inggris"/English Village remains under-researched, notably viewed from the tutors' challenges and solutions in the Indonesian English as a foreign language (EFL) milieu. This study addressed this gap. Two English tutors from "Kampung Inggris"/English Village got involved as the participants. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed with thematic analysis. The findings reported that there were five challenges encountered by tutors when teaching English speaking, namely tutors' inability of exploring English language teaching materials, tutors' insufficient English vocabulary, tutors' ineffective time management during language teaching practices, demotivated tutees to learn English, and perceived teaching anxiety. In addition, the tutors stipulated four solutions to cope with such challenges, namely building a good rapport between tutor and tutees, tutors' self-motivation to English vocabulary enrichment, selecting appropriate and providing updated English language teaching materials, and motivating English language tutees. Therefore, teaching English speaking should not only rely on immersing students in fluency-based activities but also manage tutees' psychological factors to attain more effective teaching English speaking objectives.

The understanding mathematical concept is an error that often occurs in classroom learning among students when solving mathematical problems. The most difficult part for students is solving problems, because it requires numeracy skills, high concept mastery, as well as the ability to use good language, and so on so that students don't make any more mistakes when working on math problems. Student errors in solving mathematics problems are (1) errors in connecting concepts, (2) errors in operations and (3) errors in constructing concepts. The problem is what is the structure of students' mathematical misconceptions in solving mathematical problems based on cognitive style. The method in this research, namely an exploratory descriptive approach, aims to determine the structure of students' errors based on cognitive style in solving mathematical problems. Analysis of research data, namely: (1) Data reduction, (2) Data exposure, (3) data triangulation and (4) drawing conclusions. The cognitive styles referred to are field dependent and independent. The conclusions are (1) the structure of conceptual errors with an applied field dependent cognitive style begins with disequilibrating, then solving by linking applicable concepts, and (2) the structure of conceptual errors with a field independent cognitive style begins with disequilibrating, then solving using analyse.

This research employed an auto ethnographic study. It is a method used to describe the journey of the researcher in teaching English Syntax for two years in academic years 2016 to 2017. The problem in this research is how the lecturer implemented the communicative approach in teaching English Syntax in a Higher Education Context. The Method used in this research is qualitative method. The subject of this research was the students and the lecturer of English department, Faculty of Language and Literature, Makassar State University. The instrument of the research was interview and auto ethnography reflection (lecturer personal reflection). Technique of the data collection used individual in-depth interview. The result of the data analysis indicated that the implementation of the communicative approach in teaching English Syntax run well because the students felt satisfy to join the class, from the class start until the end. The implementation was divided into three steps. The first is preparation; the lecturer has already prepared the teaching material well, the learning objective, and teaching method and strategy. The second is implementation the communicative approach in teaching English Syntax, and the third is evaluation. The all of the steps are run well in teaching English Syntax. It can be concluded that teaching English Syntax through communicative approach was very good and successful, and get a good impact for the students in improving their language knowledge and skills.

Language learning engagement has awakened interest in recent decades. This has taken place because engagement enables students to perform physical and mental, goal-directed, and purpose-driven activities. Unfortunately, keeping students emotionally engaged during Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) remains under-researched. Therefore, this study focused on scrutinizing how teachers maintained the students' emotional engagement during Emergency Remote Teaching, especially in the Indonesian English as a foreign language (EFL) context. English Education Department teachers at a state-owned university in Indonesia were involved as the research participants. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with two teachers during the data collection. The data were analyzed with Thematic Analysis (TA) (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The findings reported six main themes, namely (1) implementing proper teaching materials and instructional platforms during emergency remote teaching, (2) actualizing tolerance-based learning activities, (3) performing self-adaptation to technology-enhanced language teaching, (4) deploying contextualized teaching methods during emergency remote teaching, (5) applying eclectic instructional media during emergency remote teaching, and (6) utilizing constructive and humanizing online learning monitoring. Practically, TESOL practitioners, students, and policymakers can benefit from this study to realize how to maintain students' emotional engagement while performing teaching and learning activities during ERT.

Students have varying degrees of creativity and can develop their creative abilities in specific disciplines through various stimuli. Tracing the students' mathematical creativity is very important since creativity is not a gift for specific students; rather, all students have it. The participants of this study were 170 urban and rural middle school students in Greater Malang, Indonesia. This qualitative descriptive exploratory research revealed differences in middle school students' mathematical creative models in problem-solving activities which were then used empirically to classify differences in students' mathematical creative models and provide characteristics for each of their creative models. Data were collected from problem-solving activities and semi-structured interviews. Triangulation of sources and methods was used to obtain data validity. Data analysis wasperformed through fixed comparison analysis. This research created meaningful and reliable differences in students' mathematical creative models, including models of imitation, modification, combination, and creation. As a conclusion, this study revealed differences in students' creative models and recommended that further research develop other problem solving activities to promote students' creative models traceable on an ongoing basis to more varied problem themes.

Since Indonesia's implementation of its national curriculum, the country's madrasas have faced a significant challenge: conforming with the government's regulations and laws. This has not been limited to observing these policies, but also implementing religious and national curricula simultaneously. Ultimately, these institutions' administrators have chosen predominantly to employ a pesantren-based model, which is seen as the ideal solution to their ongoing struggles. This study seeks to understand how madrasas competitively implement both national and religious curricula, using a qualitative approach -- observation and interviews -- to understand how national and religious curricula are implemented. This study finds that, in response to national guidelines, madrasas require an institutional basis for proportionally and systematically integrating, synergising, and adopting both the national and religious curricula. It is hoped that, by employing a "pesantren" model and system, madrasas can optimally achieve the desired goal: to accommodate the national curriculum without abandoning the religious values that characterise madrasas.

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the teaching and learning process from offline to online and it has challenged all stakeholders, teachers, students, and parents. One of the key variables that work in dealing with the challenge of online teaching and learning is known as the academic coping strategies (ACS). Some studies have confirmed that academic coping strategies positively contribute to students' learning outcomes and students' ability to deal with their academic pressure. Besides, other factors that influence the students' academic coping skills are the students' self-regulation and students' psychological capital. Therefore, the main aim of this research is to examine the correlation between (1) self-regulation and the academic coping strategies; (2) the self-regulation and psychological capital; (3) the psychological capital and the academic coping strategies; and (4) the self-regulation and the academic coping skills through the psychological capital. This research applied the correlational multifactor which took samples from 518 high school and vocational school students. The instruments employed in this research were a personal data information form, self-regulation scale, psychological capital scale for academic purposes, and academic coping strategies scale. The data were analyzed by using the path analysis in AMOS 23. This research revealed that self-regulation directly affects the students' academic coping strategies and psychological capital during online learning in a COVID-19 pandemic. The pedagogical finding of this study can improve the quality of learning during the COVID-19 pandemics which is expected to be applicable not only in Indonesia but also in other countries, particularly in southeast.

Education sector is heavily affected by COVID-19 pandemic, leading to reduced learning motivation among students. Factors including dismal learning environment, stress, and anxiety are believed to be the reasons of students' lower motivation among students. This study investigated the use of Nearpod in an elementary school to improve student learning motivation during online learning. In this qualitative experimental research with thematic analysis, three classes with a total of 51 students and three teachers were participating for one week. The results of the study showed that gamification and interactivity of Nearpod help build up and develop students' learning interests, leading to greater attention, engagement, and improvement of student attendance rates. Some suggestions on how to effectively integrate gamification in learning are postulated.

Purpose: This quantitative study explored willingness to communicate (WTC) across two settings, ESL in Malaysia, and EFL in Indonesia and Thailand. Participants' WTC levels were measured and communicative situations in which participants were almost always willing and almost never willing to communicate in English were identified. Method: Convenience sampling was used to select the three countries, four secondary schools and 42 intact classes from Years 7 to 10. Two schools were in Malaysia, while one school each was in Indonesia and Thailand. A total of 1038 participants, consisting of 291 Malaysians, 325 Indonesians and 422 Thais took part in the study. The instrument used was an adapted questionnaire measuring WTC inside and outside the English classroom. Findings: The major findings were: (1) Situations in which students were almost never willing to communicate in English were mainly found outside the classroom; (2) Students were almost always willing to communicate in English in brief, predictable situations requiring the use of set phrases; (3) ESL students had a higher level of WTC than EFL students; and (4) WTC inside the classroom was significantly higher than WTC outside the classroom. Significance: The findings have implications for ESL/EFL classroom instruction. English teachers remain the main interlocutors in increasing WTC in the classroom. They also need to bridge the gap between the classroom and the outside world by preparing students for real social situations. This is consistent with the situation-specific aspect of WTC in the heuristic model proposed by MacIntyre, Clément, Dörnyei, & Noels (1998).

Metacognition is the ability to think about thinking. One of the learning models in geometry is the van Hiele model, which consists of learning phases and geometry thinking level. However, geometry learning strategy in Indonesia does not stress metacognition and geometry thinking level. Hence, this study aims to examine the effectiveness of geometry learning strategy based on the infusion of metacognition in van Hiele model compared to van Hiele learning phases in helping secondary school students to improve their geometry thinking level. The quasi-experimental study was conducted six-week with 90 students. The students selected purposively divided into two groups, with 30 students in both treatment groups, respectively. The instrument employed van Hiele Geometry Test (vHGT) before and after the treatment to measure the student's geometry thinking level. Data were in ordinal form analyzed descriptively and inferentially using Mann-Whitney U. The result revealed the significant difference between the final geometry thinking level in both groups. Thus, it can be concluded that the geometry learning strategy based on the infusion of metacognition in van Hiele model is more effective in improving the student's geometry thinking level than the geometry learning strategy based on van Hiele model.

This study aims to analyse the way leadership and digital technology usage affect the faculty members' research performance in surviving higher education sustainability during the COVID-19 pandemic. A breakthrough innovation is needed to design a fast-track online work management system. Hence, it requires a loyal contribution from all the faculty members to support this system. This quantitative study conducted in Malaysia and Indonesia, included 260 faculty members from various fields of studies. Using the online questionnaire, it shows that leadership and technology usage plays an important role to maintain faculty members' research performance during the pandemic. However, it has a slight difference in result between Malaysia and Indonesia in terms of the portion of leadership and digital technology that affected the research performance. The higher education leaders play a stronger role in affecting Malaysian faculty members' research performance, while Indonesian faculty members are influenced more by digital technology usage than by their leaders. Each of them has a significant implication in designing the effective institution policies in optimizing faculty members' research performance.

During school from home, students need positive reinforcement both from parents and teachers to improve or trigger their positive behavior. This study aimed to identify the intensity of verbal positive reinforcement given by teachers to students during school from home. It was a mix-method study by involving 310 elementary school teachers as respondents (41.29 % males, 58.71% females). The intensity of positive reinforcement was measured using an instrument developed from the basic theory of positive reinforcement by Skinner (1953) and Schakel & Lyon (1984) and information collected from interviews with teachers. The instrument consisted of 7 kinds of verbal positive reinforcement that can be given by teachers during school from home. The findings indicated that during school from home, teachers tended to give less verbal positive reinforcement to students. Teachers' lack of understanding about the importance to give positive reinforcement during school from home was the main factor leading to the condition. Besides that, teachers did not understand that the verbal positive reinforcement can be delivered both in oral and written forms. Another finding shows that female teachers more often gave positive reinforcement than males. The kind of positive reinforcement given by these two different genders was also different.

The aim of the article is to address how online learning is implemented in schools, how teacher competencies influence online learning experiences, and what implication of online learning for teachers' authority. The data collection uses in-depth interviews with teachers and parents about their experiences with online learning, as well as observations of the learning process at three levels of schools in Indonesia. The findings indicate that the teacher's authority has been fundamentally decreased. This can be evident in the diminishing opportunities for modeling students' personalities that result in students' poor enthusiasm for learning and their low obedience to teachers.

Writing has been considered as a highly demanding skill and a complex recursive process involving multifaceted knowledge (e.g. grammar, genre, vocabulary and metacognitive competencies). Hence, it has been documented in miscellaneous studies in the past few decades. However, the issue of challenges and solutions to teaching English writing to junior high school students remains under-researched. Therefore, this study addressed this issue, notably in Indonesian EFL context. Three English teachers from a junior high school in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia were recruited as the participants. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed with Thematic Analysis (TA) (Braun & Clarke, 2006). On the one hand, the findings reported that there were seven challenges encountered by teachers when teaching English writing, namely (1) students' poor English grammatical competence, (2) students' incapability of developing ideas for English writing, (3) students' inadequate English vocabulary knowledge, (4) students' demotivation to learn English writing, (5) insufficient time management to teach English writing, (6) limited sources of English writing materials and (7) limited facilities to teach English writing. On the other hand, teachers promoted several solutions to cope with such challenges, namely (1) explicit teaching English vocabulary, (2) collaborative English writing activities, and (3) exercises of English writing. Pedagogically speaking, this study offers practical contributions for the TESOL practitioners to teach English writing effectively to junior high school students, particularly in the Indonesian EFL landscape.

The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced various dimensions of higher education systems globally, including English language learning. To illustrate, the pedagogical practices should be altered from face-to-face to online modes. This move affects students' learning engagement, notably cognitive engagement. Although myriad studies have focused on probing students' cognitive engagement, little is known about how students engage cognitively during emergency remote teaching (ERT). To fill this void, this study investigated students' cognitive engagement in English language learning activities in an ERT environment. Sixty students from three Indonesian higher educational institutions were involved as participants. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview and analyzed with thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The findings revealed that students, (1) deploying metacognitive language learning strategies, (2) possessing self-regulated learning, (3) designating English language learning motivation, (4) showcasing critical thinking as a manifestation of students' cognitive engagement, and (5) connecting teaching materials to the students' daily life. The implications of this study call for emphasizing students' English language learning needs and teachers' continuous professional development.

The objective of this paper is to contribute to the discussion and reflection of a classroom training activity as a method to improve the quality of competency-based assessment in the courses of Mathematics and "Bahasa Indonesia." The Introduction describes the theoretical perspectives and the concept of competency-based curriculum as well as competency-based assessment. It also outlines a practical example of competency-based instruction in Mathematics and "Bahasa Indonesia," as well as the structure of the new curriculum as a competency-based framework, an approach to assessment using summative or formative assessment. Furthermore, the paper explores active learning and active assessment with an example from a Bahasa Indonesia course using assessment observations and ongoing assessment as examples for competency-based assessment. Finally, the paper concludes with a detailed analysis of a method to collect evidence through analysis and compiling evidence through observation. There is a short identification analysis on participative learning and participative assessment in competency-based assessment.

To improve the quality of the learning process, teachers are expected to be able to develop appropriate learning methods and models according to the learning topics listed in the school curriculum. This study aims to determine the effect of the debate model on learning motivation in students' history subjects at Darul Aman Senior High School Makassar City. The research method used is an experiment with a quantitative descriptive approach. The research instruments were in the form of observations, questionnaires and tests. The results showed that the level of students' learning motivation increased after using the debate model. The debate learning model has a significant effect on students' learning motivation. The conclusion of this study concludes that the debate model can increase students' learning motivation in historical subjects.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on education. The closure of schools and the cessation of face-to-face classrooms have affected schools and students worldwide. The current need is to transform the traditional classroom to adapt to the new social and educational background. The flipped classroom is usually defined as a strategy to subvert the conventional academic environment; that is, the information transmission part of the traditional face-to-face lecture is removed from the classroom time for online self-learning. The flipped classroom is a highly flexible classroom mode, which has brought significant changes to education. Therefore, this study aims to examine the studies' research trends, advantages, and challenges concerning the flipped classroom for EFL courses during the COVID-19 epidemic. For this purpose, databases including the web of Science (WOS) and Scopus were reviewed, and 15 articles were analyzed. A systematic review was used as the research methodology. The study's findings revealed the effectiveness of flipped classrooms for EFL courses during the pandemic. Based on the review, this paper puts forward suggestions for future research and points out the future development direction.

The study highlights the presence of intolerance within the textbooks used for Islamic education, which has negative implications for peace and harmony. However, the understanding of this intolerance construction in the textbooks is currently limited. Therefore, this research aims to identify and analyze the intolerant values embedded within these textbooks' language, content, and scenarios. The ultimate goal is to develop an action plan to prevent the dissemination of intolerance through the education system. To achieve this objective, qualitative methods such as content analysis, interviews, and focus group discussions were employed to collect and analyze data. The study's findings indicate the following: a) The textbooks used for Islamic education can foster and promote intolerant beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors among students, who may mistakenly associate these with the teachings of Islam. b) The narratives promoting intolerance found within the textbooks result from negligence during the writing, reviewing, and editing processes. C) The development of new textbooks is necessary, and it should be a collaborative effort involving intellectuals, religious and cultural leaders, with a focus on promoting values of peace and social harmony. In conclusion, the study recommends a comprehensive mapping of the textbooks used in Islamic education at different education levels to identify and address any potential threats to peace. If strategically approached, Islamic education can serve as a platform for nurturing students' moral foundations and fostering peaceful coexistence within society.

The concept of low carbon education is one solution to provide knowledge to students related to low carbon behavior. The purpose of this paper is providing an extensive bibliometric literature review on 'low carbon education'. Articles found by Publishing or Perish (PoP) software with the Google Scholar database. There were 55 out of 97 articles found from Google Scholar data base ranging from 2014 to 2019 analyzed in this study. The chosen references were then managed using a referencing manager software namely Zotero. After managing the database, this study classified and visualized it using VOSviewer software. Overall, this review provides an appropriate reference point for further research on 'low carbon education'.

The multi-ethnic and multi-lingual society of Islamic boarding school students ("santri") involves the occurrence of code switching. This research aims to reveal the code switching patterns by female students in daily communication in Islamic school Al-Mukmin Ngruki Islamic Boarding School and Assalaam Islamic Modern Boarding School in Indonesia, and the factors affecting the occurrence of code switching in daily basis communication in Islamic boarding school. The data are derived from the verbal interaction among the female students in Islamic school. Meanwhile, the data are populated by using the techniques of observation, recording, and interview. Further, they are analysed by the use of Hymes, (1996) ethnography method of communication. The result of this study shows that the code switching patterns includes "Intersentensial switching," "Intrasentensial switching," and "Tag switching." However, the dominant pattern of code switching used by female students is "Intersentensial switching." It is occupied in order to clarify the sender messages. In the domain of friendship, there are switches on the language of Indonesian, English, Arabic, Javanese, Sundanese, and Malay. The cause of the code switching relates to closeness between the speakers and the partners, prestige, popular terms. Also, it intends to convey the purposes and intentions of the speakers such as confirming information and maintaining cultures.

The goal of education is to foster all students' intellectual, social, and personal potential to their highest level by providing them with an equitable and equal education irrespective of their characteristics (e.g., ethnicity, social class, language use, religion, and other human differences). Different students and communities should not be excluded in terms of curriculum. At the micro-level classroom, student engagement is central. Teachers should go beyond the prescribed curriculum by working with their students and by including their voices. However, how can students be successful academically and socially if the school curriculum is anchored in the mainstream curriculum, primarily promoting the dominant groups? For example, given that the books, curriculum, and standardised testing are centralised in Indonesia, the content is, of course, generalised for all students. Teachers and schools throughout the country should use the same materials for all students. However, for the disadvantaged children coming from poor, rural, and remote areas, such policies lead them to trouble. They learn the books and materials that are similar to those that the affluent schools and students use in cities, but their values and perspectives are excluded. Also, how can students who are racially, culturally, and linguistically marginalised and low-income families succeed if the curriculum is organised exclusively to maintain the current social structure? The purpose of this paper is to explore the need to move from an exclusive to inclusive curriculum in Indonesia so that all students can succeed academically and socially. The orienting questions for this study are: (1) What do we mean by an exclusive and inclusive curriculum? (2) What are the components of an inclusive curriculum? (3) What should be reformed to create an inclusive curriculum? (4) What kind of leadership is required to guide the reform from an exclusive to an inclusive curriculum?

Metacognitive knowledge is a necessity in starting learning process. Solving physics problems requires metacognitive knowledge which comprises factual, conceptual and procedural knowledge. The purpose of metacognitive knowledge is to train students in developing their abilities in higher order of thinking. The problem is what kind of strategies can be used by teachers to facilitate student's comprehension? This study used "sketch knowledge strategy" (SKS) as a strategy to help students in solving high order of physics problems and its influence on their metacognitive understanding. The target variable strategy was used as a comparison in order to examine its effects. The results showed that the concept of sketch strategy was more significant in solving metacognitive problems than that of the target variable strategy.

This study is an exploratory research aims to find and know about a phenomenon by exploration. Therefore, the approach used in this study is ethnographic approach, an empirical and theoretical approach to get description and deep analysis about a culture based on field study. From the sustainable interviews and confirmation about field research with some community leaders in Cipatujah district, Tasikmalaya regency and in Santolo Pameungpeuk beach, Garut regency; it is found that Ethnomathematics is still widely used by Sundanese people especially in rural areas: the use of measurement units, mathematical modeling, and the use of clock symbols. The results of this study can be useful for Sundanese people and the government of West Java in education, cultural services, and tourism.

Squirrels traded for pets or consumption have the potential to be vectors for zoonotic disease transmission and to establish themselves as invasive species. Callosciurus spp. (Greek for beautiful squirrel) are popular in the pet trade due to their medium size and many colour variants, though several feral populations have established themselves in various parts of the world and these wild-caught individuals can carry and spread infectious diseases. Here, we investigate the live trade in Prevost's squirrels (C. prevosti) in Indonesia where they are naturally found on the islands of Sumatra, Bangka and Borneo. Between 2016 and 2024, we recorded 284 Prevost's squirrels for sale, viz., 115 in the physical markets and 169 online. We detected the species for sale in Sumatra (13 individuals), Bangka (7) and Borneo (3), i.e. within their natural range, but also on Java (242) and Bali (4). The mean asking price per individual was US$63, and younger individuals commanded higher prices than older ones. Asking prices were not higher in cities further away from the species' native range nor in cities with higher purchasing power. All individuals were wild-caught, and with a domestic quota of five individuals allowed to be traded as pets per year (45 over the study period) most of this trade is illegal under Indonesian law. This is distinctly different from trade in Prevost's squirrels in for instance Europe or the USA where legally captive-bred individuals are offered for sale. In Indonesia the illegal trade happens in the open and despite the risk of the spread of zoonotic diseases wherever it is traded there appears to be little incentive on the side of the authorities to curb this trade. Their widespread availability on Java and Bali risks the accidental or deliberate introduction on these two islands. Better coordination is needed between the Indonesian authorities, online sales sites, pet traders and consumers to stop the sale of illegally obtained Prevost's squirrels to limit the risk of them becoming invasive species or contributing to the spread of emerging infectious diseases. This research aimed to study the influence of Leadership, Organizational Culture, Emotional Quotation, and Job Satisfaction to Teacher Performance of Senior High School at Palopo Municipality South Sulawesi. There were 78 teachers participated in this research. The results were: (1) Leadership directly affects teacher performance; (2) Emotional quotation directly influences teacher performance; (3) Job Satisfaction directly effects teacher performance; (4) Leadership directly effects job satisfaction; (5) Organizational Culture directly effects job satisfaction; (6) Emotional Quotation directly effects job satisfaction. Based on this research, the factors of Leadership, Organizational Culture, Emotional Quotation, and Job Satisfaction to Teacher Performance should be developed by Central and Local Government either Palopo or South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Industrialization has transformed humans' perspectives and morality. At the same time, government policies have urged students to become innovators. This study argues that these policies have caused demoralization among Indonesian students in the Revolution 4.0 era. It applies a descriptive qualitative approach, using observation, interviews, and reviews of formal and informal policies available online. It objectively illustrates how universities have transformed in response to government policy. As shown in previous studies, higher education processes have ignored morality as they have industrialized and strived for innovation. Educational institutions are unable to act autonomously, being limited by state interests. At the same time, they have failed to dynamically articulate the meaning of Industry 4.0, focusing solely on products and the workplace. Critique and reflection are necessary to imbue students with civility and integrity. Such a constructive response is necessary to curb the demoralization process that has occurred in the Industry 4.0 era.

Simple Summary: There are clear links between wildlife trade and emerging infectious diseases including zoonotic diseases. In some cases, this leads to global outbreaks or even pandemics as recently seen with SARS and COVID-19 for instance. One of the first properly documented global pandemics caused by the trade of wildlife at a global level was the Great Parrot Fever Pandemic of 1929/1930. This pandemic was caused by psittacosis, a respiratory disease that can be transmitted to humans from infected birds (once transmitted to humans the disease is known as avian chlamydiosis). We assessed the risk of psittacosis becoming a zoonotic disease in Indonesia's bird markets where a wide range of wild-caught species, including parrots, are traded. In 14 markets on the islands of Java and Bali, we recorded almost 4500 parrots of 21 genera from all parts of the world and these were traded alongside each other. Genera offered for sale together did not cluster into geographic groups, were sold during all months of the year, and for 12/21 genera the presence of psittacosis had been reported in the past. We conclude that the omnipresence of wild-caught parrots from various geographic regions in large numbers within the same bird markets (visited by 100 s of people daily) increases the likelihood that psittacosis is indeed present. This poses a real risk for the zoonotic spread of avian chlamydiosis to humans. Wildlife trade, both legal and illegal, is increasingly recognized as a key factor in the rise of emerging viral infectious diseases, and this is especially apparent in Asia, where large numbers of wildlife are openly offered for sale in bird markets. We here focus on the risk of Psittacosis becoming a zoonotic disease in the wildlife markets of Java and Bali, Indonesia. Psittacosis is particularly prevalent in parrots (hence the name), and the trade in parrots was instrumental in the Great Parrot Fever Pandemic in 1929/1930. Between 2014 and 2023, we conducted 176 surveys of 14 bird markets, during which we recorded 4446 largely wild-caught parrots for sale. On average, each market had nine genera on offer, and the diversity of genera increased with the increasing presence of parrots (up to 16 genera). For most of the bird markets during each survey, parrots from different genera and originating from different parts of the world, were offered for sale alongside each other. Genera offered for sale together did not cluster into natural (geographic) groups. We found no temporal difference in the sale of parrots. We conclude that the omnipresence of wild-caught parrots from various geographic regions in large numbers within the same bird markets increases the risk that psittacosis is present and that this poses a real risk for the zoonotic spread of avian chlamydiosis to humans. Species–environment relationships are often studied at large spatial scales, but effective conservation requires an understanding of local-scale environmental drivers and pressures. Widespread degradation and fragmentation of forests have increased the proportion of tropical mammal habitat that is affected by edge effects. Edge effects include greater exposure to anthropogenic disturbance and abiotic changes that synergistically influence how well populations can cope with climate change. We investigated relationships between distance to the forest edge, forest structure, microclimate and terrestrial mammal detections in a selectively logged forest at the boundary of Gunung Leuser National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia. We collected mammal detection data from motion-activated camera traps, microclimate data from automated climate data loggers and forest structure data from vegetation plots. Daily mean and maximum temperatures significantly decreased with distance from the forest edge, whereas tree height and minimum temperature increased. Mammal diversity was lower at the forest edge compared to the interior. Mammals were detected less frequently at the forest edge, although this relationship varied between mammal orders. Mammal detections were best explained by temperature, tree height and tree diameter at breast height. These results demonstrate that abiotic changes in forests brought on by edge effects have negative impacts on mammals, but these effects vary between mammal taxa because of differing sensitivities to human disturbance. Our findings highlight the importance of considering local-scale environmental drivers in determining species–environment relationships to identify key habitat features such as microclimate refuges that should be prioritized in ecosystem management. One of the fundamental problems for the college students is not being able to solve the multi-concept physics problems. The reason is that the problem solving strategies is limited to known-asked strategy (traditional strategy).Though this strategy can only be used to solve the problems of mono-concept physics. Therefore, this research on the use of knowledge sketching strategy as an alternative to help students to solve multi-concept physics problems is conducted. This study used "single-group pretestposttest design" with treatment in the form of sketch knowledge strategy.The results showed that the average students' pretest score (n = 23) was 3.61 and the mean posttest score was 7.65.This indicates an increase in the average score of 4.04 after being treated. These results show that knowledge sketching strategy have an advantage in improving the ability to solve multi-concept physics problems compared to the known-asked strategy.

Background: Implementing electronic-based health information systems in Indonesia has shown a significant increase in the last decade. However, many problems still need to be solved that hinder the effectiveness of this system. Studies describing the implementation of electronic-based data collection, monitoring, and reporting show confusing results. Aim: This review aims to evaluate the implementation of community-based electronic data collection, monitoring and reporting. Method: PRISMA guidelines was used to conduct this review. Databases used to search relevant literature including PubMed, Sciencedirect, Willey Online Library, and Proquest. Authors independently screening and extracted the data from the eligible studies. CASP for qualitative study was used to assess the quality of the study. Result: There are nine studies that matched with the inclusion criteria. Area of recording, monitoring, and reporting including maternal and child health, NCDs, and Tuberculosis. the challenges faced by Indonesia in implementing the ERMR including internet connections, access to electricity, absence of regulations, human resources, facilities, Fragmented application, Age, Pandemic, and lack of communication. Based on those barriers, infrastructure in supporting the implementation of ERMR is the most stated in the studies included. Conclusion: The implementation of ERMR is crucial for the Indonesian government to address immediately, given the significantly substantial benefits for the health status of the Indonesian people. This study documented the structure and meaning of the language used in the Buntang ritual, as practised among the Dayak Maanyan in East Barito, Kalimantan, Indonesia. This is a special language spoken by this group, living in the southern part of Borneo, to communicate with their ancestors’ spirits. In our documentation, we observed the Buntang ritual, the location of the ceremony, the participants involved, and the interactions between participants to obtain a complete record of the Buntang ritual. We then interviewed a wadian, “priest”, for a complete transcription of the speech used during the ritual. The language used in ritual features constructions of paired clauses. Drawing on the awakening and summoning practices for ancestors’ spirits in this ritual, we documented 2,868 paired clauses. The first clause of the pair uses words from daily use in the Maanyan language, while the second clause uses words that are only used in the ritual. Pairs are a combined form of two clauses with the same meaning in an unequal number of words. This inequality occurs because of verb, noun, or adverb reductions at the beginning of the second clause and word additions at its end. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The rise of the global supply chain has intensified the circulation of goods and capital across the world. While the body of literature on the politics and political‐economy aspects of logistical expansion has grown, little attention has been given to understanding how coastal fishers' communities interact with the ongoing development of mega infrastructure. I argue that it is essential to place spatial and temporal specificity at the centre of analysis to further understanding of everyday resistance and resilience. In this article, I use a case study of the Port development in Jakarta to argue that renegotiating and reworking space and place amid the development of the mega port is a form of nonviolent everyday resistance and resilience that operates under, but also against, the capitalist political‐economy configuration. I focus on everyday resistance, particularly Asef Bayat's concept of quiet encroachment, and resilience literature to demonstrate the development and contested usage of micro and temporary infrastructures, both at household and community levels, as a material example of how diverse groups in communities exercise their agency and power, and express everyday resistance and resilience differently. Through this article, I aim to contribute to the broader literature on a situated political urban ecology, particularly on everyday resistance and resilience in postcolonial urbanism. Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disease of the small intestine triggered by the consumption of gluten-containing foods in individuals with a genetic predisposition. CD was a rare disease until 20 years ago, when the prevalence increased. Currently, there is no data on the prevalence of CD in high-risk adult populations in Indonesia, even though there is a trend of increasing gluten consumption. Therefore, basic research is needed to determine the magnitude of CD in high-risk adult patients in Indonesia while identifying clinical signs/symptoms, illness history, and lifestyle to determine factors associated with CD in Indonesia. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional method.Two hundred eighty-three patients who fulfilled the selection and signed the informed consent were recruited from the gastroenterology clinic of Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. Patients were asked to fill out a celiac disease-related questionnaire and then given anthropometry measurement and blood test for serologic examination with ELISA, consisting of IgA anti-tissue transglutaminase (anti-TTG) and IgG anti-deaminated gliadin peptide (anti-DGP). Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square and Multivariate logistic regression tests with SPSS software ver. 26. Statistical test differences were considered significant if the p-values were < 0.05. Eight of 283 patients are serologically confirmed with CD (2,83%). On bivariate analysis, the significant variables are age (p < 0,05), constipation (p < 0,05) and history of autoimmune disease (p < 0,05). On multivariate analysis, the only significant variable is the history of autoimmune disease (p < 0,05). This study concluded that the prevalence of CD in high-risk patients with functional gastrointestinal disorder at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital is relatively high (2.83%). CD-associated factors are age, constipation, and history of autoimmune disease in patients. The problem with making batik in Indonesia and Malaysia so far is that it is still very manual and has not taken much advantage of technological advances. The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is currently very advanced, continues to innovate, and has even touched various aspects of human life. Limitations in ideas, human resources, knowledge, tools, and internet networks are the dominant conditions that cause problems in Indonesian and Malaysian batik creations. This study aims to use Artificial Intelligence to describe the combination of Indonesian and Malaysian batik patterns. This paper uses a descriptive-qualitative method with an experimental approach in the form of trials for the creation of batik patterns using the Imagine Artificial Intelligence platform; each trial is based on three basic patterns of batik, namely Sawat and Gurdha (Indonesia) and Orchid and Tiger (Malaysia). The results of this paper generated eight totally new Indonesian-Malaysian batik patterns. Artificial Intelligence (AI) was very helpful for the development of batik patterns. Through the creation of new batik patterns with the support of Artificial Intelligence (AI), it certainly creates new opportunities for the creation and business of batik to become more advanced. The application of online services at the Population and Civil Registry Service (Disdukcapil) in Indonesia is important in increasing the efficiency and quality of public services. However, the success of receiving online services is still a major concern for the government and public service managers. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the online service acceptance model at Disdukcapil in Indonesia using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The data collection method was carried out through a survey of potential users of online services and using the Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) to analyze the data. The results showed that perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitudes towards the system, behavioral intention, and actual system usage, which are the dimensions of the Technology Acceptance Model, positively affect the acceptance of online services at Disdukcapil in Indonesia. The findings can guide policymakers and public service managers to increase the acceptance and adoption of online services in the government sector. The growth of the coffee business has not been accompanied by an increase in entrepreneurship, one of the causes being a lack of competence which can hinder the development of new businesses. This research aims to understand and explore how entrepreneurs improve skills in the coffee business through experience-based training conducted at Malabar Mountain Coffee. This study provides academic and practical contributions to creating skilled entrepreneurs towards the Indonesian government's target of 1 million new young entrepreneurs. This refers to the Indonesian government's target to develop the economy and encourage the development of the business world in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative methodology, specifically using a case study approach. Data was collected using observation and semi-structured interviews. Direct observations and interviews were carried out by established standards to answer research questions. Then the data is analysed, and an explanation of the findings obtained from this investigation is given. The research results found that all participants improved their skills through the experiential training they received. This has a very positive impact on increasing participants' competence in the form of skills in choosing the coffee they will sell later and also serving good coffee drinks to consumers. The Malaysian government is rigorously drawing up strategies to increase the already existing 60,000 foreign students currently studying in the country (The Star, 2009). With the influx of more foreign students and with English as the medium of instruction in local higher education, it is felt that a study to investigate international students' orientation, attitudes and aspects that drive and/or deter them in learning English would be beneficial. The sample for this study (N = 115) comprised of international students from China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Korea, Vietnam, Maldives and the Middle East undertaking an Intensive English course at a local private college. Data collection was done via questionnaire which was designed based on a review of existing instruments in the field. Results show that orientation towards learning English does not vary according to nationality and gender; however, students from China and Korea tend to be more inclined towards instrumental orientation, while students from Kazakhstan and Iran are more inclined towards integrative orientation. Based on the findings, this paper also proffers recommendations for local higher education institutions to enhance ELT practices for incoming international students.

Introduction: Emotion dysregulation is a transdiagnostic marker for vulnerability and has high comorbidity rates across various range of disorders among adolescents and young adults, highlighting the crucial need for precise assessment tools to recognize its significant impact on well-being. The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale Short Form (DERS-SF) is a comprehensive instrument designed to measure the ability to regulate emotion. This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of DERS- SF among the non-clinical population, particularly high school and university students in Indonesia. Methods: A total of 738 senior high school and university students completed the Indonesian version of DERS-SF and standard questionnaires to assess its validity, consisting of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) foryoung adults and the Children Depression Inventory (CDI) for adolescents. Three models were examined in factorial validity tests using confirmatory factor analysis. Results: The results showed that DERS-SF had an overall good internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha coefficient of .89 for the 18-item version, .90 for the 17-item version, and .91 for the 15-item version. Test-retest reliability was moderate with a value of .67. In addition, it had good satisfactory content as shown by item content validity index (I-CVI) = .96 and scale content validity index (S-CVI) = .83, as well as convergent validity. All subscales scores showed a positive and strong correlation with DASS, BDI-II, and CDI except awareness. Based on confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), the correlated 6-factor model excluding item number 6, and the 5-factor model excluding awareness were suitable to use in non-clinical populations. Conclusion: This study established the removal of the awareness subscale in the DERS-SF Indonesian version, resulting in better reliability and validity than the original version with complete subscales. Antibiotic resistance is a serious global health threat and broad-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobactericeae (ESBL) are major contributors. This research focuses on the presence of Escherichia coli as a producer of ESBL in the fresh feces of deer. This study aimed to gain deeper insight into ESBL sourced from deer. 129 fresh stool samples were collected. A total of 89 samples came from the East Java region and 40 samples came from the East Nusa Tenggara region. Identification was carried out which was then followed by PCR. We found 9 positive samples of ESBL-producing E. coli containing the blaTEM gene as the ESBL encoding gene. 33 samples (25.28%) were positive for E. coli. 8 isolates (24.24%) were multidrug-resistant, East Java (6 isolates) and East Nusa Tenggara (2 isolates). All isolates of multidrug-resistant E. coli 7 isolates were ESBL positive (87.5%) and contained the blaTEM gene. The presence of MDR and ESBL-producing E. coli isolates have been confirmed in deer. Wild animals such as bats usually do not receive antibiotic therapy, however bats can have bacteria that have developed resistance to antibiotics due to water contamination from pharmaceutical factory waste disposal, expired medicines that are thrown away carelessly, feces and urine that pollute the environment. This research aimed to look at cases of multidrug resistance (MDR) in bats on the island of Lombok, Indonesia. A total of 135 bat rectal swab samples were taken using sterile cotton buds. Isolation of E. coli bacteria using Eosin Methylene Blue Agar media then looking at morphology and biochemical tests. The bacterial sensitivity test used the disk diffusion method using seven antibiotics, namely the antibiotics amoxicillin, ciprofloxacine, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline, gentamicin, cefotaxime and azithromycin. The research results showed that from 135 samples tested, 97 samples were positive for E. coli. Samples that were positive for E. coli were tested for sensitivity, showing that 41 (41/97, 42.26%) samples were still sensitive to all tested antibiotics and 56 samples experienced resistance with the results of samples experiencing resistance to the antibiotic azithromycin (AZM) as many as 37 samples (38.1%), amoxicillin (AML) 24 samples (24.7%), tetracycline (TE) 24 samples (24.7%), sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (SXT) 22 samples (22.6%), ciprofloxacine (CIP) 14 samples (14.4%), gentamicin (CN) 1 sample (1%), and for cefotaxime (CTX) 0 samples experienced resistance (0%), and 14 samples experienced multidrug resistance. Fasciolosis is a disease caused by the genus Fasciola which attacks wild animals, livestock and humans. Molecular characterization of Fasciola sp. important for identifying the species Fasciola sp. The aim of this research was to analyze the characteristics of the worm Fasciola sp. molecularly on samples of cattle slaughtered at the Kediri City Slaughterhouse Regional Technical Implementation Unit. This research was carried out from January to February 2023. The samples were adult worms Fasciola sp. taken from one beef cattle and one dairy cattle. The PCR used is conventional PCR with primers from mitochondrial DNA genes. PCR products are passed to the sequencing stage. The PCR test results read on 2% agarose gel electrophoresis showed that the PCR product had high specificity, namely forming a single band at position 752 bp showed positive for F. gigantica. the results of the phylogenetic tree of Fasciola sp. with data in GenBank showing Fasciola sp. beef and dairy cattle isolates in Kediri City are closely related to Fasciola sp. dairy cattle isolate from China with Accession Number KF543343.1 and Fasciola sp. long-haired cattle (yak) isolate from China Accession Number MH621335.1. The existence of international livestock trade can result in the introduction of various diseases, one of which is Fasciolosis. The study highlights the economic factors that can increase intra-industry trade (IIT) of halal food products in ASEAN. Focusing on Indonesia, the largest market for halal products in the grouping after Malaysia, this study finds that Indonesian halal food products for trade have a competitive advantage over other ASEAN countries. However, the regression model with panel data shows that there has also been an increase in industrial production in the country’s trading partners. This research provides a new perspective on the future of regional economic cooperation, especially in the form of halal product intra-trade among ASEAN member states. It contributes to the literature on the regional halal market by including data exclusively for a halal category, which has not been explored before.
