Indonesia is an archipelago with the fourth largest population in the world, with a population of 283 million. In Indonesia, breast cancer ranks first in cancer and is the highest contributor to death. Deaths caused by breast cancer can be minimized by screening and early detection to avoid the risk of more severe cancer. Early detection of breast cancer can delay the growth of cancer cells and increase the chances of recovery. This research proposed a machine learning-based application for screening and early detection of breast cancer independently based on perceived symptoms. However, developing breast cancer early detection applications requires a very high level of accuracy to minimize prediction errors. This research focused on finding the optimal accuracy of the machine learning method so that it could predict breast cancer with a very low error rate. This research aimed to improve the performance of classification methods in breast cancer disease prediction using the correlation feature selection approach and hybrid sampling Smote-Tomek Link. This research utilized Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Naive Bayes classification methods with a combination of Smote-Tomek Link hybrid sampling approach and correlation feature selection. Hybrid Sampling Smote-Tomek Link balanced the data by minimizing noise in the data created. At the same time, the correlation feature selection method was used to select relevant or influential attributes with class attributes based on a strong correlation level (= 0.6) between input attributes and classes. The results of this study obtained that the SVM method with hybrid sampling and correlation feature selection obtained the best performance compared to the Naive Bayes method and previous research referred to with an accuracy of 96.80%, sensitivity of 96.80%, and specificity of 96.80%. Thus, using the Smote-Tomek Link hybrid sampling approach and correlation feature selection positively impacted the performance increase in the SVM and Naive Bayes methods for breast cancer prediction. Piper crocatum, known as red betel, is a potential medicinal plant that grows in the tropics as an anti-cancer. Several previous studies of red betel showed the ability to inhibit various types of cancer cells. The research aims to analyze the bioactive compounds in red betel leaf extract origins from Indonesia on ethanol by GC-MS method, identify toxicity with MTT assay. Further, the morphology of MCF-7 breast cancer cells was determined to lead the ethanol extract of P. crocatum. The bioactive compounds of P. crocatum leaves have a function in cytotoxicity to cancer cells, such as phenol (1.36%), phytol (5.72%), and vitamin E (1.76%). Red betel leaves extract against MCF-7 cells has an IC50 = 6.68 µg mL-1. The results showed that morphological changes occurred in MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Cell morphological changes were indicated by loss of contact with surrounding cells and decreased the number of cells after 24 h exposed to ethanol extract of P. crocatum. The ethanol extract of P. crocatum can inhibit MCF-7 breast cancer cells' growth and potential as an anti-cancer agent. Purpose The efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) is limited due to drug resistance and cardiotoxic effects. Preclinical studies have shown that statin induces apoptosis and decreases breast cancer cell growth. This study aims to evaluate the role of statin in combination with fluorouracil, adriamycin, and cyclophosphamide (FAC) therapy in LABC patients. Materials and Methods We undertook a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial in two centers of Indonesia. Patients were randomly assigned to FAC plus simvastatin (40 mg/day orally) or FAC plus placebo (40 mg/day) for 21 days. The FAC regimen was repeated every 3 weeks. We evaluated the clinical response, pathological response, and toxicities. Results The objective response rate (ORR) for FAC plus simvastatin was 90% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.99 to 1.67) by per-protocol analysis. No complete responses (CR) were recorded, but there were 48 partial responses. No significant difference was observed between the two groups with the ORR (p=0.103). The pathological CR rate was 6.25% (2 in simvastatin group and 1 in placebo group). Adverse events in both arms were generally mild, mainly consisted of myotoxicity. Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) expression was a factor related to the success of therapeutic response (odds ratio, 4.2; 95% CI, 1.121 to 15.731; p=0.033). Conclusion This study suggests that simvastatin combined with FAC shows improvements in ORR and pathological response in patients with LABC. Although no statistically significant difference was documented, there was a trend for better activity and tolerability. World-wide, Indonesia is ranked 17th in oral cancers, with deaths reaching 2.326 cases. Of the oral cancers, 90% are squamous cell carcinoma (HSC-3). Unfortunately, conventional cancer therapy still has many ill side effects. Therefore, pharmacologists have looked for natural ingredients to prevent the growth of oral cancer cells. One source is Cymbopogon citratus leaf. Research shows that the active compound of C. citratus leaf is a chemopreventive, doing so by increasing the production of re-active oxygen species (ROS) to induce apoptosis in cancer cells. The active compound of C. citratus leaf has low stability and solubility, so it is necessary to use an encapsulation matrix such as chitosan, and modify it into smaller particles to increase its effectiveness. Purpose is determining the effect of nano chitosan encapsulation of C. citratus leaf ethanol extract (NCECC) on the reactive oxygen species of HSC-3 tongue cancer cells. This study is divided into ten groups – without treatment, doxorubicin (positive control), hydrogen peroxide, nano chitosan and C. citratus leaf extract groups, and five groups of NCECC treatment – concentrations of 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, and 12.5%, respectively. The 100% NCECC group showed the highest ROS concentration (p<0.05), compared to 75%, 50%, 25%, 12.5% NCECC groups, and the 100% NCECC was higher than the positive control group. NCECC is effective in inducing oxidative stress on HSC-3 through increased production of ROS. Moreover, the higher the encapsulation concentration given, the greater the increase in ROS production. BACKGROUND: The overproduction of interleukin-6 (IL-6) in breast cancer cases can aggravate metastases. In comparison, the production of T lymphocytes plays a role in suppressing the development of tumor cells. Honey as a complementary therapy is expected to reduce the overproduction of IL-6 and facilitate the production of T lymphocytes in breast cancer cases. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine the effect of Dorsata honey (DH) as a complementary therapy to IL-6 levels and T lymphocytes of post-chemotherapy in breast cancer. METHODS: This study was a quasi-experimental approach that employed a pretest-posttest group control design. As many as 30 post-chemotherapy breast cancer patients at the Central Hospital in Eastern Indonesia were randomly selected into a control group of 15 participants. Additionally, an intervention group of 15 participants was given DH orally three times a day at a dose of 15 ml. The blood sample was taken two times, day 0 of the chemotherapy and day 16 (post-chemotherapy). The level of IL-6 was measured by ELISA, while the data were analyzed by Wilcoxon, independent T-test, and Mann–Whitney test. RESULTS: The results showed that DH did not significantly affect IL-6 levels (p = 0.17). However, there was an increase in T lymphocyte levels with statistically significant differences (p = 0.01) in intervention groups. There was no difference in Il-6 and T lymphocyte levels between the intervention and control groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Il-6 levels tend to be constant in the intervention group. However, there is a significant increase in the T lymphocyte levels which can indirectly increase the immune system and inhibit tumor cell growth in patients with breast cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
