Abstract

We describe the design of a small-scale parabolic trough with a high-pressure absorber bundle to convert microalgae into bio-oil. The “proof-of-concept” system uses an existing Global CSP solar captor, with its reflectance enhanced by the addition of Skyfuel® ReflecTech Plus polymer film and has its original receiver tube replaced by a novel high-pressure multi-tube absorber and reactor. Initial results obtained at Kota University in Rajasthan, India demonstrated that temperatures up to 320˚C are possible, and a bio-oil, similar to palm oil, was extracted from the reactor. Abstract

A study conducted by HLL Lifecare Ltd. in Kerala, India, aimed to optimize the compounding of poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) thin film with a plasticizer using the hot melt extrusion (HME) process. The study employed quality risk assessment and design of experiments (DoE) to identify critical material attributes and critical process parameters that affect the quality of the PLGA film. The research successfully demonstrated a continuous and scalable HME method for manufacturing a biodegradable coating for medical devices. Abstract

We have calculated the production cross-sections of continuous X-rays for commonly used thin polymer films on the basis of the theories of quasi-free electron bremsstrahlung (QFEB), secondary electron bremsstrahlung (SEB), atomic bremsstrahlung (AB) and nuclear bremsstrahlung (NB). These results are compared with that of experimental one. We found that SEB is the main contributing factor and the contribution of QFEB, AB and NB is negligible. This work would facilitate choice among available polymer materials and lay down well-defined standard data against which new candidates might be judged. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
