Background: Soft tissue can be defined as non-epithelial extraskeletal tissue of the body exclusive of the reticuloendothelial system, glia, and supporting tissues of different parenchymal organs. These tumors are a highly heterogeneous group and are classified into benign, intermediate, and malignant forms according to the adult tissue they resemble. They can occur in all sites of the body. Aims and Objectives: The present study was undertaken to assess the histopathological pattern of various soft-tissue tumors. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective observational study for a period of 2 years, in which 152 soft-tissue tumors were analyzed and classified primarily as per the WHO classification. The age-wise, sex-wise, and site-wise distribution and the histopathological spectrum of soft-tissue tumors were studied. Results: A total of 152 soft-tissue tumors were included in the study, of which 90.79% were benign tumors, 5.92% were malignant, 2.63% were intermediate grade tumors, and 0.66% was of uncertain malignant potential. Maximum number of patients belonged to the 41-50-year age group. Males constitute 53.29% cases and females, 46.71% with a male-to-female ratio of 1.14:1. Lipoma was the most common soft-tissue tumor in the present study. Conclusion: Overall soft-tissue tumors are a rare category of tumors with benign tumors vastly outnumbering malignant tumors. The diagnosis of soft-tissue tumors needs a meticulous approach and team effort. Proper examination of the gross specimen and careful sampling of the tumor is required for the correct diagnosis. Hematoxylin- and Eosin-stained sections remain very important for the diagnosis of soft-tissue tumors along with immunohistochemistry and molecular markers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Orbital lipomas are uncommon benign tumors with only a few reported cases in literature. They are usually asymptomatic and exhibit gradual growth. We rendered such a rare case of primary lipoma in the orbital region with interpreted symptoms of ocular pain, reduced vision, and mild proptosis. Right fronto-orbital craniotomy with gross total excision of the tumor was done. Histological examination suggested a final diagnosis of lipoma. Post-operatively, the patient developed mild ptosis. Lipomas of the oral cavity are uncommon. Here we report a case of 85 year old female presenting with a progressively increasing large growth in the oropharynx which was diagnosed as lipoma on histopathology. The clinicoradiological and histopathological findings are discussed. To the best of our knowledge; this is one of the largest intraoral lipoma reported in India till date. The present case highlights the need to be aware of intraoral lipomas which can present as large growths at this unusual site so as to avoid any unwarranted aggressive surgery. Introduction: Scalp is a region where pilosebaceous follicles are present in high density and a wide histopathological spectrum can be seen. Aetiology of a scalp swelling may be traumatic, inflammatory, allergic, infective or neoplastic. Malignant tumours are not uncommon in this region and the literature available is also limited. This makes the scalp an interesting site for study. Aim: The present study was to highlight the histopathological spectrum of non traumatic scalp swellings. Materials and Methods: The present study was a 10 year hospital-based observational ambispective study from February 2010 to January 2020, done in the department of Pathology in a tertiary teaching hospital in Western Uttar Pradesh, India. A total of 144 non traumatic scalp swellings were studied and analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 19 software. Results: A total of 144 cases were studied. Male to female ratio was 1.4:1. Mean age was 40.94 years. Benign cases were 139 and five cases were malignant. Keratinous cyst was the commonest diagnosis (n=52), followed by lipoma (n=24). Most common malignant lesion was basal cell carcinoma (n=3), followed by squamous cell carcinoma (n=2). Conclusion: Scalp swellings vary from keratinous cysts to malignancies. The study of scalp swellings is a must so that a variety of histopathological manifestations can be widely understood and interdisciplinary approach can be implemented in the diagnosis and management.
