This study provides a web-based view of the University library website in India. The study intended to gain some insight into the user access and usability of the University Library website. The University library website is an access point for libraries in this digital era. This Covid-19 pandemic affected the Library usage pattern drastically. The library website gives the user access to library resources and services. Information Architecture examines the flow of Information on a website. A good website has a user-friendly information design and does not just focus on website appearance- 'looks'. The research design involved 40 participants at a given time and space. Testing was conducted on the Bangalore University library website using the post-graduate students studying at the University. The Usability testing was conducted to test the navigation through the Library website. A demographic study of the test subjects was also used to understand the needs and evaluate the homepage of the Bangalore University Library, Bangalore (BUBL) website. User experience and usability of the BUBL website were tested using a set of tasks performed by the library users. The study found the trust level of the BUBL website to be high in users. The digital library has gained significant importance in recent years as it provides a more suitable solution to access the knowledge or resources available anywhere and at any time. National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a digital platform that provides access to substantial digital storage of resources and encourages and inspires learning among the nation's people. This study aimed to analyze the awareness of the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) among the students, teachers and research scholars of India and tried to assess its utilization and backdrops for further improvement. The empirical study was conducted in India, and the primary data were collected using Google Forms. Snowball sampling was used to collect data from 384 respondents, including students, research scholars and teachers. The study detected that the overall level of awareness of NDLI was low (39.3%) among the different groups, and students had the lowest (50.2%) level of awareness among other groups of respondents comparatively. A strong association was seen to exist between educational qualification and respondents' level of awareness. Apart from these, the users found the NDLI app useful; 54% of respondents were able to access the required content using the app and 71% of the users rated 'good' the app's performance. Institutional Repositories (IRs) are an effective way of managing and disseminating institutions’ in scholarly communication. More specifically, an IR enhances the visibility and discoverability of the content and validates the repository’s importance. Knowledge Organisation System (KOS) strengthens the digital content organisation, connects users with collections, and improves information retrieval functionalities. This paper investigates the present status of user interface features and incorporates KOS in the institutional repository of technical institutions, restricted to Centrally Funded Technical Institutions in India. A group of twenty-four web-accessible institutional repositories was identified, and their KOS and user interface features were evaluated. It was found that user interfaces of all IRs under study comply with essential search and navigation functionalities, such as simple and advanced search, browsing, faceted or filtering approaches, and integration with multiple KOS. Only a few of them include complex KOS, such as control vocabulary. All repositories show their search results in both normal-text and metadata views. Some have specific display features, such as highlighting the query or displaying a thumbnail. Google is one of the most popular search engines that indexes IR content for visibility and discoverability, and approximately 90 per cent of repositories are linked with NDLI. The Department of Posts, Government of India, to date, has set up six full-time postal training centres (PTC) across India to meet the training requirements of its five-lakh strong workforce. PTC Madurai (PTCM), situated in Tamil Nadu, is one such training centre. PTCM has taken a proactive initiative to explore and adopt information technologies in the training and learning domains. It has partnered with the JRD Tata Memorial Library, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, through a small project to set up a digital infrastructure to manage its training programmes and the library collection. PTCM was looking for a digital library to manage its training materials, an online catalogue for its library collection, and a website. The consultants used three different open-source software to implement the requirements of PTCM viz; EPrints1 for developing the digital library, Koha2 for the integrated library management system, and WordPress3 content management system for developing the website. With the advent of ICT tools and techniques in library environment library website has served as a gateway to reach out to library system and services. The present study deals with analysis of the content of top ten NIRF ranked universities located within India as per the rank list published in the year 2021 by taking into account 58 criteria arranged in nine checklists. From the study it was found that all the university libraries taken under study have covered a whole range of information related to general information, library collection and E-resources possessed by them. Very few university libraries have included Information related to library sections and the volume and variety of information related to library services and value added services in the libraries is not satisfactory. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the level of awareness and usage of open source digital repository software (DRS). The paper also studies the factors, which influence the level of awareness and usage of different open source DRS by academic librarians in India. Design/methodology/approach: The study administered an online questionnaire to academic librarians in India to know their level of awareness and usage of open source DRS. The questionnaire aimed to gather the awareness and usage of open source DSR. In total, 374 complete responses were collected from academic librarians in India and the collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Moreover, Fishers' exact test was used to identify whether factors i.e. qualification and participation in workshop/seminar influence the level of awareness and usage of open source DRS. Findings: The results of the study reveal that the level of awareness and usage of open source DRS, namely, DSpace (Mean = 2.92, SD = 0.906) and Greenstone digital library software (GSDL) (Mean = 2.18, SD = 0.699) are high amongst the academic librarians in India. In total, 33.4%, 11.5% of the participants are using DSpace and GSDL, respectively, on regular basis. Fishers' exact test shows that factor(s) i.e. qualifications and participation in workshop/seminar affect the level of awareness and usage of open source DRS. The results show that there exits strong relation between participation in workshop/seminar and awareness and usage of DSpace (Fishers' exact test = 13.473, p < 0.05). Originality/value: This paper is the new type of study exploring level of awareness and usage of open source DRS by academic librarians in India. It identifies the factors that affect the awareness and usage of open source DRS. It is the first study to analyze the statistical significance between Indian librarians' participation in workshop/seminar and their level of awareness and usage of different open source DRS. The main objective of this present study is to provide a detailed usage statistics of the Kuvempu University library portal during the academic year 2011-2012. The study examined the usage of library portal by research scholars, and faculty members of various science departments of Kuvempu University. The study investigated, and observed the factors like attitude and perception towards library portal, purpose of use, benefits of using the library portal. The study also identified the difficulties faced by respondents while using the library portal. The study shows that 85 % of respondents used the library portal. Research is the major reason for which majority (70 %) of respondents use the library portal. 75 % of the respondents opined that the portal has provided more efficient access to electronic resources (e-resources). 48.33 % of respondents have partially agreed with the information reflected on the main page of the portal. Low speed connectivity is a major problem found from this study. Based on the findings, the study suggests: proper training to the users as well as library staff, marketing of resources and services through advertisements, and display of printed guides, announcements of new e-resources, more high-speed computers for further improvement of library portal. Dhananjayarao Gadgil Library of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) has started building up the digital library collections by scanning its valuable rare books during July 2011. The GIPE's digital library uses open source software DSpace for building its digital repository. Currently, repository holds more than 7500 digital documents. These documents are available to all the scholars across the world. The present paper discusses the methodology adapted for its digital library building. The various processes involved were: Identification of the vendor, identifying the documents to be scanned or digitised, overall work flow, preparation of the metadata in excel, converting the data into Dublin Core XML format and then finally uploading the metadata into DSpace server. This study attempts to identify the awareness on digitisation trends and techniques among the library professionals in and around Chennai. The empirical data were collected, through questionnaire method among 540 LIS professionals working in 348 institutions of different domains such as Medical, Engineering, Arts & Science and Polytechnic. Out of which 432 (80.0%) questionnaires were responded. Out of 432 (80.00%) responded, 62.5% are male; 37.5% are female; 36.80% are belong to Engineering; 30.75% are from Arts & science; 20.60% are from Medical and 11.80% are from Polytechnic institutions. The collected data were analysed using SPSS package. The opinion of professionals were obtained on various digitisation trends and techniques such as digital storage, storage security, various formats, metadata, standards, servers, software etc. It is identified that their exist awareness on digitisation trends and techniques as well as inquisitiveness in continuous learning on the conceptual factors of digitisation. The purpose of this paper is to examine the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in 32 Engineering College Libraries in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu by investigating the ICT infrastructure, current status of library automation, barriers to implementation of library automation and also librarians' attitudes towards the use of ICT and the availability of computers in libraries. Data-gathering tools used included questionnaire, observation and informal interview with selected college librarians. It is observed that 31.2% of libraries use only one computer for OPAC and 31.2% of libraries have less than 5 computers for internet access. 37.5% of libraries have 5-10 computer to access e-resources, 31.2% libraries have membership in INFONET. E-learning is a nebulous term; meaning teaching-learning facilitated through the modern media like web, satellite, cable networks, etc. Though it is successful in spreading its wings on today's higher education sector, it's linkages with the libraries are stilt feeble. The academic and other types of libraries, especially from the developing countries such as India, are struggling to cater to the increasingly heterogeneous requirements of the e-learners and associated community, This paper presents the key role of LIS professionals in the e-learning paradigm. After a thorough analysis of the e-learning scenario, authors have realised that libraries and librarians have an important role to play possibly through the digital libraries-a contemporary movement growing along-with the e-learning. The aspirations of e-learner community from the LIS professionals in this new era of e-learning are propagation of the movement itself, course content development, technical facilitation, technical trouble shooting, fuelling open-archives, improving user interfaces, identifying and training the usage of free and open source software tools to the user community to ensure maximum participation in teaching-learning process. The paper also discusses e-learning-library linkages and the innovations implemented in the top ranking off-shore public libraries that the Indian LIS community can follow.
