Introduction: Pantoea anthophila (P. anthophila) is a Gram-negative bacterium initially isolated from Impatiens balsamina in India. P. anthophila has been characterized with low pathogenicity, and no human infections caused by this organism have been reported yet. We report the first case of urinary tract infection caused by P. anthophila in a 73-year-old man after bladder cancer surgery. Methods: The bacterial isolate gained from urine was named UI705 and identified as P. anthophila by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The genome sequencing and analysis were performed to further characterize the pathogenesis of the clinical isolate. Result and discussion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of human infection caused by P. anthophila in China. The draft genome sequence of P. anthophila UI705 provides a fundamental resource for subsequent investigation of its virulence factors, antibiotic resistance, host-pathogen interactions, and comparative genomics of genus Pantoea. Earth observation‐based estimates of global gross primary production (GPP) are essential for understanding the response of the terrestrial biosphere to climatic change and other anthropogenic forcing. In this study, we attempt an ecosystem‐level physiological approach of estimating GPP using an asymptotic light response function (LRF) between GPP and incoming photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) that better represents the response observed at high spatiotemporal resolutions than the conventional light use efficiency approach. Modelled GPP is thereafter constrained with meteorological and hydrological variables. The variability in field‐observed GPP, net primary productivity and solar‐induced fluorescence was better or equally well captured by our LRF‐based GPP when compared with six state‐of‐the‐art Earth observation‐based GPP products. Over the period 1982–2015, the LRF‐based average annual global terrestrial GPP budget was 121.8 ± 3.5 Pg C, with a detrended inter‐annual variability of 0.74 ± 0.13 Pg C. The strongest inter‐annual variability was observed in semi‐arid regions, but croplands in China and India also showed strong inter‐annual variations. The trend in global terrestrial GPP during 1982–2015 was 0.27 ± 0.02 Pg C year−1, and was generally larger in the northern than the southern hemisphere. Most positive GPP trends were seen in areas with croplands whereas negative trends were observed for large non‐cropped parts of the tropics. Trends were strong during the eighties and nineties but levelled off around year 2000. Other GPP products either showed no trends or continuous increase throughout the study period. This study benchmarks a first global Earth observation‐based model using an asymptotic light response function, improving simulations of GPP, and reveals a stagnation in the global GPP after the year 2000. Extreme climate-induced vegetation greenness decline significantly affects the stability of ecosystem function. Extreme climate events have occurred frequently in the recent 20 years and the possibility of climate anomalies is forecasted to increase in the future. But currently, the spatial and temporal response of episodic local vegetation decline to climate extremes at a global scale are still unclear. In this study, the detrend NDVI data was utilized as the indicator of vegetation growth, and a spatiotemporally contiguous recognition method was proposed to identify episodic large-scale vegetation decline events globally, subsequently, the spatiotemporal characteristics of these vegetation decline events and their interannual variation trends during 2000-2019 were explored. The results showed that (1) the spatiotemporally contiguous recognition method proposed by this paper was proven to be accurate in identifying the hotspot regions of large-scale vegetation decline. A total of 243 large-scale vegetation decline events were recognized globally during 2000-2019 drived by the method. (2) The global hotspots of large-scale vegetation decline were mainly distributed in the low-elevation areas at middle and low latitudes, especially at 15°S ~ 35°S, 15°N and 35°N, where covered north-western Africa, the Sahel, the Middle East, Central Asia, western India, the border of north-eastern China and Mongolia, western and south-central United States, northern Mexico, southern Africa, Australia, and southern and north-eastern South America. (3) Recent global episodic local vegetation decline has increased significantly since 2000, at the rate of 180,000 km 2 of vegetation decline areas increasing per year. Particular, the severity of vegetation decline grew significantly since 2010 at the regions where covered the latitudes of approximately 15°N, 30°N and 65°N. Additionally, the severity of vegetation decline ranging from 20°S to 30°S weakened significantly since 2010.
