During the COVID-19 pandemic, many traditional field-courses for intercultural education were suspended. In response, we developed and implemented an innovative online field course that leveraged live online field experiences. Drawing from Cognitive Load Theory and Four Components Instructional Design, our aim was to create an engaging online intercultural course that addressed the challenges of remote instruction. The course focused on introducing students to field challenges in rural India, equipping them with the necessary skills for conducting online field research. Throughout the course, we employed Action Research methodologies to study and refine our approach while monitoring student's progress towards achieving the course objectives. While physical presence in the field is valuable for certain aspects of intercultural education, we found that online field courses, supported by live virtual field visits and online fieldwork, can provide students with a meaningful intercultural experience. To manage the cognitive load experienced by students, we emphasised carefully designed and flexible course content, as well as providing close supervision and feedback.

Even after scavenging the existence of mankind for the past year, the wrath of CoVID-19 is yet to die down. Countries like India are still getting haunted by the devastating conundrum, with coronavirus ripping through its citizens in the concurrent second wave. The surge of cases has prompted rapid intervention, with medical authorities pushing it to the limit to curve a roadblock to its aggressive growth. But, even after effortless work, human intervention remains slow and insufficient. Furthermore, relevant testing methodologies have shown weakness while detecting threats, with the recent growth of post-Covid complexities, thereby leaving a painful mark. This as such created a major requirement for technological advancements, which can cater to the mass. The growth of computational prowess in the past decade made the field of Deep Learning a major contributor in curving out algorithms to solve this. Adding to the excellent foundation of Deep Learning, this paper, proposes a novel CoWarriorNet model for rapid detection of CoVID-19, via chest X-ray images, which adds in an extra layer of precision and confirmation in the detection of cases in both pre-Covid and post-Covid conditions. The proposed classification model curves out an excellent accuracy of 97.8%, with the major eye-candy being the sensitivity rate of 0.99 when detecting CoVID-19 cases. This model introduces a new concept of Alpha Trimmed Average Pooling, which along with the novel architecture adds a subtle touch to its high efficiency, thereby giving a much-needed solution to the medical experts. Research on the impact of transparency and disclosures (TD) on the firm's valuation presents an ambiguous result. The effect of disclosure on value is a concern because disclosure is not an economic activity. It grows further due to the embellishment of positive disclosures and the suppression of hostile facts. This situation has motivated the authors to conduct the current research. The study aims to empirically find the influence of TD on the valuation of banks in India while the Environmental, Social, and Governance Index (esgi), Shareholder activism index (shai), and Lerner Index (li) act as moderators. A panel data regression (PDR) is adopted to analyse the data in the study. Panel data for 31 public/private banks for ten years (2010–2019) are collated. The authors used econometric models to understand the linear, quadratic, and interaction association of Transparency and Disclosure (TD) with the valuation of the banks in India. It is empirically found that TD alone does not impact the valuation of banks but is positively associated with a bank's value under the influence of the moderators, Environmental, Social, and Governance variables (esgi), and shareholder activism (shai). Background: The anterior pelvic tilt is characterized by ASIS rotating inferiorly in relation to the PSIS or being positioned lower than the PSIS in the sagittal plane. When compared to non-athletes, football players are more likely to have a higher anterior pelvic tilt angle. The anterior pelvic tilt experienced by football players may make them more prone to musculoskeletal problems. Purpose: This study is intended to compare the effects of Swiss ball and McKenzie exercise on a sample of football players who have an anterior pelvic tilt without any symptoms. Materials and Methods: 30 Subjects who were selected in the stadium under Shai physio clinic based on inclusion criteria. They were divided equally among two groups. Group A (n=15) subjects were managed with Swiss Ball exercise and Group B (n= 15) subjects were managed with McKenzie exercise. The subjects were evaluated using Angulus ROM software. Study period: October 2022 to June 2023. Results: In Group A (Swiss Ball), the post-test mean value was 10.80 (2.27), significantly lower compared with Group B (Mckenzie Exercise), 16.33 (3.04). This demonstrates the correction of excessive anterior tilt among football players in Group-A following Swiss Ball Therapy. However, the subjects in both groups were found to have a significantly decreased anterior tilting of the pelvis now exists following the interventions in Group A (Swiss Ball) and Group B (Mckenzie Exercise). Conclusion: According to the present study's findings, participants with anterior pelvic tilt responded well to both the interventions. Nonetheless the subjects who used a Swiss ball exercise were found to have correction in anterior pelvic tilt more quickly than those who performed the McKenzie exercise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Acanthodactylus is a widespread lacertid genus occurring from the Iberian Peninsula and western North Africa to western India including the Middle East, Cyprus, and the Arabian Peninsula. The genus is in dire need of a taxonomic revision, and the phylogenetic relationships amongst and within its species remain unclear. In particular, the taxonomy and relationship of the allopatric, narrow-ranged Acanthodactylus schreiberi and its close relative, the widespread Acanthodactylus boskianus asper, are poorly understood. We estimated the phylogenetic and phylogeographical structure of A. schreiberi across its distribution range, and evaluated its relationships to A. b. asper, using mitochondrial and nuclear data. The phylogenetic results indicate that both species are paraphyletic, with A. schreiberi nested within A. b. asper, and the subspecies A. schreiberi syriacus nested within a distinct lineage of A. b. asper. We suggest that the group is in need of a taxonomic revision because the identified lineages and genetic diversity are incongruent with the currently recognized taxonomy. We tentatively conclude that A. schreiberi is restricted to Cyprus and Turkey, reduced to a single form, and that the populations in Lebanon and Israel belong to A. b. asper. © 2014 The Linnean Society of London [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Mental health concerns are common in health care workers during pandemic. There are no studies of the prevalence of health anxiety in ophthalmologists in India. Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of health anxiety in ophthalmologists practicing in India during the ongoing pandemic. Methods: A questionnaire-based online survey on the "changes and challenges during COVID-19" using Google forms was sent to all members of the All India Ophthalmological Society. Besides demographics, the survey had questions to assess the general mental and medical health status of the ophthalmologists. Short Health Anxiety Inventory (SHAI) was used to assess health anxiety. Results: 1027 ophthalmologists responded to the study. Higher stress was experience by 83.1% compared to pre-COVID while examining patients closely (35.9%) or during surgery due to the risk of aerosol generation (29.3%). SHAI score >20 was observed in 5.6%. Only emergency serviceswere being provided by 50%and 17%in the SHAI > 20 group were not working as compared to overall 14%. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that a majority of the ophthalmologists were under stress during the COVID-19 pandemic but only a small proportion experienced health anxiety. Background: Cryosurgery remains an important treatment modality in dermatology practice. HYDROZID®, a new portable cryosurgery medical device using norflurane as a cryogen, was recently introduced in the Indian market. This paper reports the findings of the phase IV study conducted in India. Aims: This is a prospective phase IV study to evaluate its safety and efficacy in the treatment of superficial epidermal and dermal lesions. Methods: The study was conducted across 4 centres in India. The cryosurgery cycles were decided based on the skin lesion considered for the treatment. Safety and efficacy parameters were assessed at day 1, day 7, day 14, day 30 (±2) (end of treatment), and day 60 (±2) after the initial cryosurgery treatment. The local skin reactions scale, pain VAS scale, and Vancouver scale for assessment of pigmentation and scarring were used for the assessment of cutaneous reactions. Assessment of efficacy was done by evaluating the total disappearance of skin lesions at the end of the study visit. Results: Ninety-seven patients completed the study. The reported post-procedural pain was mild to moderate and subsided over the period of 24 hours. There was no pain observed in 84.76% of patients at the end of 24 hours. Complete disappearance of the lesion was seen in 47.4% of patients at the end of the study, while the reduction in the diameter of skin lesions by more than 50% was observed in 79.38% of patients. The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the current paradigm of clinical and community-based disease detection. We present a multimodal wearable sensor system paired with a two-minute, movement-based activity sequence that successfully captures a snapshot of physiological data (including cardiac, respiratory, temperature, and percent oxygen saturation). We conducted a large, multi-site trial of this technology across India from June 2021 to April 2022 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic (Clinical trial registry name: International Validation of Wearable Sensor to Monitor COVID-19 Like Signs and Symptoms; NCT05334680; initial release: 04/15/2022). An Extreme Gradient Boosting algorithm was trained to discriminate between COVID-19 infected individuals (n = 295) and COVID-19 negative healthy controls (n = 172) and achieved an F1-Score of 0.80 (95% CI = [0.79, 0.81]). SHAP values were mapped to visualize feature importance and directionality, yielding engineered features from core temperature, cough, and lung sounds as highly important. The results demonstrated potential for data-driven wearable sensor technology for remote preliminary screening, highlighting a fundamental pivot from continuous to snapshot monitoring of cardiorespiratory illnesses. Dyslipidemia is a critical risk factor for cardiovascular disease. This study investigated the impact of 500 mg of spilanthol (SA3X) supplementation on lipid profiles in men with dyslipidemia using a randomized, parallel-group, placebo-controlled design. A total of 279 male participants were randomly allocated to one of four groups: SA3X without exercise, placebo without exercise, SA3X with exercise, and placebo with exercise. After a one-month control period, participants received SA3X capsules or placebo for three months. The exercise groups undertook standardized weight-lifting exercises four times weekly. Lipid profiles, biochemical parameters, and anthropometric measurements were monitored throughout and after the intervention. Both SA3X groups exhibited significant reductions in total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) compared to the placebo groups. By day 90, the SA3X-no-exercise group showed a 16.78 % decrease in TC, while the SA3X-plus-exercise group demonstrated a 52.87 % decrease compared to placebo. Significant reductions in TG and LDL-C were noted at days 60 and 90 (p=0.01 and p=0.03, respectively). The SA3X-plus-exercise group also exhibited decreased random blood sugar levels at days 60 and 90 compared to placebo-plus-exercise. Moreover, decreases in C-reactive protein, creatine kinase, and serum creatinine levels were observed. SA3X supplementation, particularly when combined with exercise, effectively improved lipid profiles and various health markers in men with dyslipidemia. Adverse events, primarily taste disturbance, were mild. These findings suggest SA3X may be a promising adjunctive therapy for managing dyslipidemia, emphasizing its potential cardiovascular health benefits and supporting further investigation. Background: Vitamin B12 deficiency is widely prevalent in all age groups which is of major concern. However, there is no valid Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) for dietary vitamin B12 estimation. Hence, we aimed to develop and validate an FFQ for the estimation of dietary intake of Vitamin B12. Materials and Methods: Commonly consumed B12-rich food items were selected from literature and filtered using a market survey. For concordant and discriminant validation, B12 and homocysteine levels were estimated. To establish convergent validity, the Cobalamin Intake in North Indians by Food Frequency Questionnaire (COIN-FFQ) and 72-hour dietary recall (72HrDR) were both administered to the same subjects. The COIN-FFQ was readministered after initial administration for test-retest reliability. Internal consistency of the FFQ was then tested using Cronbach's alpha. Results: We enrolled 115 adults with a mean age and weight of 31.9 ± 8.7 years and 66.0 ± 11.8 kg, respectively. In total, 19.1% were vegetarian. The dietary B12 using COIN-FFQ (n = 60; mean = 4.3 ± 1.8 µg/d) was significantly correlated (r = 0.255; P = 0.049) with serum levels (mean = 120.1 ± 62.6 pmol/L) establishing concordant validity. A significant difference was noted between the dietary, serum B12, and homocysteine levels of vegetarians versus nonvegetarians establishing discriminant validity (mean diff 1.4 (0.5-2.4), P = 0.004; Z-statistic -2.182, P value 0.029, and Z-statistic -2.438; P value 0.015), respectively. FFQ was strongly correlated with 72HrDR and test--retest FFQ (n = 27; r = 0.814, P < 0.001 and r = 0.869, P < 0.001, respectively) establishing convergent validity and test--retest reliability. The internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha was in the acceptable range, 0.631 (n = 115). Conclusion: The newly developed COIN-FFQ is valid and reliable in estimating dietary B12 intake. Background: Domestic violence is a leading cause of poor health outcomes during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Therefore, there is a need for integrated domestic violence interventions in reproductive health care settings. India has one of the highest maternal and child mortality rates. This review aimed to identify characteristics of existing evidence-based integrated domestic violence and reproductive healthcare interventions in India to identify gaps and components of interventions that demonstrate effectiveness for addressing domestic violence. Methods: A systematic review of intervention studies was conducted using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. Three research team members performed independent screening of title, abstracts and full-texts. Results: The search resulted in 633 articles, of which 13 articles met inclusion criteria for full text screening and analysis. Common components of integrated violence and reproductive health interventions that were effective in addressing domestic violence included: psychoeducation/education (n = 5), skill building (n = 5), counseling (n = 5), engaging stakeholders with use of trained lay peer facilitators (n = 3), and engaging male spouses (n = 3). Conclusions: Interventions in India for domestic violence that are integrated with reproductive health care remain few, and there are fewer with effective outcomes for domestic violence. Of those with effective outcomes, all of the interventions utilized psychoeducation/education, skill building, and counseling as part of the intervention. Background: Lichenoid drug eruption (LDE) is an uncommon cutaneous adverse drug reaction, where a variety of drugs used in day-to-day clinical practice have been implicated. Objective: To describe the clinico-demographic characteristics of patients with LDE and to identify the most likely drugs involved. Methods: In this prospective, observational study, consecutive patients with LDE presenting to the dermatology department of a tertiary teaching hospital were included. The clinico-demographic profile of patients with LDE and implicated drugs was noted. Treatment of drug reaction along with outcome was also documented. Naranjo adverse drug reaction probability scale was used for causality assessment of the drug reactions. A thorough literature review on LDE was also undertaken due to the paucity of existing literature. Results: A total of 15 patients (11 males and 4 females) with LDE were evaluated. Their age ranged from 37 to 61 years, with a mean of 51.53 ± 7.59 years. Anti-hypertensive medications (40%) were the most common culprit agent, followed by antitubercular drugs (33.4%), anti-diabetic agents (13.3%), and others (13.3%). The latent period (time from drug initiation to the appearance of a cutaneous eruption) varied from 15 days to 6 months (mean 2.2 months). Cutaneous involvement was generalized in 73.4% and photo-distributed lesions in 26.6%. Drug provocation test was done to identify the culprit drug. According to the Naranjo adverse drug reaction probability scale, one-third of LDEs were "definite,' whereas two-thirds were designated as "probable." Conclusion: LDE is more common in the elderly population. The latent period is comparatively longer in LDE than in other common drug reactions. Prompt recognition and withdrawal of suspected drug are essential to minimize disease morbidity. There is scanty epidemiologic data regarding the clinical profile and histologic patterns of inherited ichthyosis from resource-poor countries. Aims and Objectives: The study was aimed at assessing the clinic-epidemiologic characteristics associated with the different forms of non-syndromic congenital ichthyosis. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective chart review of ichthyosis patients that presented between July 2016 and Jun 2020. Details including demographic profile, clinical characteristics along with any relevant investigations done were included. Results: During the study period of 4 years, 107 patients with congenital non-syndromic ichthyosis were seen. The most frequent diagnosis was of common ichthyoses, followed by autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis, epidermolytic ichthyosis and erythrokeratoderma, in decreasing order. Conclusion: Important clinical findings like erythema and the type of scales as well as histological differences including an absent or reduced granular layer in ichthyosis vulgaris can help differentiate among the clinical phenotypes of inherited non-syndromic ichthyosis especially in resource-poor settings. Introduction: Drug-induced lichen planus is a cutaneous adverse effect that manifests as a systemic eruption of flat-topped, erythematous, or violaceous papules resembling lichen planus on the trunk and extremities. Although antitubercular therapy has been linked to cutaneous hypersensitivity reactions, the literature on such cases is scarce. Here, we present a case to contribute to this field, reporting on its presentation and management, and reviewing previous case studies. Case Report: Our patient, a 63-year-old male, presented with black pigmented patches on the skin, having been diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis and on antitubercular therapy for the past two months. A diagnosis of ATT-induced lichen planus was made, and all ATT was stopped. The patient was treated with antihistamines, apremilast, tacrolimus, and corticosteroids, and rechallenge of each drug was performed consecutively. No new lesions appeared after rechallenge with isoniazid and rifampicin. However, ethambutol was not reintroduced due to strong suspicion, by exclusion, that it was the offending agent, whereas on rechallenge with isoniazid and rifampicin, the patient's skin lesions gradually improved with eventual resolution of hyperpigmentation. Discussion and Conclusion: Lichenoid drug eruptions are characterized by type IV hypersensitivity reactions, and rechallenge is required to ensure safer treatment since the risk of disseminated and multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis increases with the cessation of antitubercular therapy. Diabetes mellitus (DM) has become a significant health concern with an increasing rate of morbidity and mortality worldwide. India ranks second in the number of diabetes cases in the world. The increasing burden of DM can be explained by genetic predisposition of Indians to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) coupled with rapid urbanization and socio-economic development in the last 3 decades leading to drastic changes in lifestyle. Environment and lifestyle changes contribute to T2DM development by altering epigenetic processes such as DNA methylation, histone post-translational modifications, and long non-coding RNAs, all of which regulate chromatin structure and gene expression. Although the genetic predisposition of Indians to T2DM is well established, how environmental and genetic factors interact and lead to T2DM is not well understood. In this review, we discuss the prevalence of diabetes and its complications across different states in India and how various risk factors contribute to its pathogenesis. The review also highlights the role of genetic predisposition among the Indian population and epigenetic factors involved in the etiology of diabetes. Lastly, we review current treatments and emphasize the knowledge gap with respect to genetic and epigenetic factors in the Indian context. Further understanding of the genetic and epigenetic determinants will help in risk prediction and prevention as well as therapeutic interventions, which will improve the clinical management of diabetes and associated macro- and micro-vascular complications. There is a widespread uncertainty regarding the usefulness of shareholder activism (SA) as a part of corporate governance for firms and banks. SA has wide acceptance across the board among all the stakeholders' participation. Since banks are the backbone of any economy, any endeavor (support to SA) creating difficulty may boomerang. Such actions do more harm than good; therefore, it is imperative to determine whether SA is beneficial to the banks or not. In this study, the SA index is built for Indian banks. The data relating to bank performance and valuation is gathered for 2016–2019. Panel data econometrics is applied to determine the impact of SA on banks performance. Results reveal that SA impacts bank performance. Furthermore, transparency and disclosure significantly moderates the association of SA with the performance. This paper attempts to theorise the labour and corporeal carcerability of the non-citizen non-subjects in contemporary democracies of the United States and India. I reappropriate Joy James' framework of 'Captive Maternals' to understand the relationality between the undocumented, racialised, or incarcerated with the neo-liberal states that they inhabit and serve but where they do not belong. James describes Captive Maternals as those bodies subject to consumption by the democratic order in the tradition of slavery. I expand upon her framework to argue that the dehumanisation of illegal 'aliens' and racially policed bodies not only challenges the notion of freedom in the modern democratic social organisation but rather manifests the fundamental correlation between democratic sovereignty and its exclusionary violence. This phenomenon internal to the workings of democracies challenges Hegel's idealisation of the modern rational state as the most advanced form of government characterised primarily by freedom. Democracy also constitutes the exercise of necropolitical sovereignty which I interpret not as the right to kill but as the right to police and incarcerate. Against the Hegelian struggle for recognition (Anerkennung), I deliberate on the possibility of transcending to a less than fully-determined Sittlichkeit that does not rely upon reciprocal recognition. Objective To study the clinical profile of various benign and malignant cutaneous tumors and establishing their clinico-pathological correlation. Methods A total of 102 consecutive patients of cutaneous tumors fulfilling the eligibility criteria were taken in the present study. Informed consent, detailed history, clinical examination and routine laboratory investigations were carried out on requirement basis. Skin biopsy was taken from representative areas and submitted for routine processing. Correlation of clinical findings with histopathological results was done to establish a final diagnosis. Results Out of total 102 patients, 80.4% were presented with benign conditions while 19.6% were presented with malignant conditions. Most common type of tumor observed in present study was Keratinocytic (42.2%) followed by Melanocytic (18.6%). Most common individual tumor observed was Seborrheic Keratosis (27.5%), followed by Melanocytic Nevus (14.7%) and Syringoma (11.7%), while (8.8%) and (5.9%) cases of SCC and BCC were observed. Most of the pathologies were presented as either papule (55.9%) or plaque (21.6%). Growth was observed in 6 cases of SCC and two cases of melanoma. Conclusion Seborrheic keratosis is the commonest benign tumor while SCC and BCC were the maximum skin tumors in our study. This reflexive account of fieldwork with disaster-affected communities in Kerala, India, recounts the researcher's engagement with positionality and ethics. A participatory method was adopted—enlisting local field guides who mediated the researcher's interactions with participants. Apart from offering pragmatic solutions for accessing participants, the method enhanced the researcher's contextual/cultural insight, and facilitated a relationship of trust. The researcher-guide dynamic is explored as a co-constructing and relational method that minimizes harm and maximizes benefit for participants. Film journals had become part and parcel of the complex of cinema consumption and a vital source of information in the 1930s. These film journals successfully expanded the reach of cinema and created a space for thinking and engaging with cinema and cinema-related content. The film magazine not only fulfilled the needs of average cinema-goers but was also aimed at distributors, exhibitors, advertisers and potential film financiers. This article throws light on the issue of cinema's relationship to language through the Urdu film journal. It explores how literary public spheres impinged on the cinematic and reflected the tensions and anxieties that had arisen over the question of the Hindi-Urdu language divide during the 1930s. The intersection between – and transformations of – literary and cinematic cultures effected by commercial printing produced a series of complex negotiations. Through the specific cases of the Urdu film journals Film, Shama, Star, Film Stage and Nigarkhana, I show how these journals were responding to – or how they expressed continued engagement with – notions of akhlaq (moral conduct) and islah (correction) which were central to contemporary articulations on reform and morality. Between 1562 and 1579, the third Mughal emperor Akbar undertook 17 pilgrimages to the Sufi shrine of Muinuddin Chishti in Ajmer in western India. This article analyses them as a form of peripatetic kingship. It studies specific actions of the emperor in and around Ajmer to show how they articulated a specific understanding of monarchy, one that derived legitimacy from the spiritual authority of Sufi masters and sacred sites. It then shows how the strategic location of the town of Ajmer allowed the young emperor to use it as a base for military expansion and political consolidation in western and central India. It also discusses how the journeys allowed Akbar to carry out vital facets of imperial governance, like exploring the realms, forging alliances with local chieftains, and creating public infrastructure. They also served as a public site for the performance of kingship and sovereignty. The final portion of the article explains how a paradigmatic shift in the conceptualisation and performance of Mughal kingship—whereby the ideal of monarchy as a product of Sufi charisma and Islamic piety made way for more universalist and millenarian ideals—brought a sudden end to the pilgrimages after 1579. Glacier-associated hazards are becoming a common and serious challenge to the high mountainous regions of the world. Glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) are one of the most serious unanticipated glacier hazards, with the potential to release a huge amount of water and debris in a short span of time, resulting in the loss of lives, property, and severe damage to downstream valleys. The present study used multi-temporal Landsat and Google earth imageries to analyze the spatio-temporal dynamism of the selected glacial lake (moraine-dammed) in the Satluj basin of Western Himalayas. Furthermore, GLOF susceptibility of the lake was assessed using a multi-criteria decision-based method. The results show that the lake area has increased from 0.11 to 0.26 km2 over the past 28 years from 1990 to 2018. The susceptibility index value for the lake was calculated as 0.75, which indicates that the lake is highly susceptible to the GLOF. The depth and volume of the lake were estimated to be 16 m and 57 × 105 m3, respectively, using an empirical formula. HEC-RAS, HECGeo-RAS, and Arc-GIS software were utilized in this study to perform unsteady flow analysis and to determine the GLOF impact on the downstream area. The worst-case GLOF scenario (breach width of 75 m) was revealed during an overtopping failure of the moraine dam, resulted in a peak discharge of 4060 m3/s and releasing a total water volume of 57 × 105 m3. The breach hydrograph has been routed to calculate the spatial and temporal distribution of peak flood, inundation depth, velocity, water surface elevation, and flood peak arrival time along the river channel. The analysis further reveals that the routed flood waves reach the nearest settlement, i.e., Rajpur town, situated at a distance of 102 km in the downstream valley of the lake at 6 h after the beginning of the lake breach event with a peak discharge/flood of 1757 m3/s and maximum flow velocity of 1.5 m/s. With the ongoing climate warming and glacier retreat, moraine-dammed lakes are becoming more hazardous and thus increasing the total threat. Therefore, it is mandatory to monitor and assess such lakes at regular intervals of time to lessen the disastrous impacts of GLOFs on the livelihood and infrastructure in the downstream valleys. Intimate partner violence (IPV) increased exponentially during the COVID-19 epidemic. But knowledge of the children's exposure to parental IPV is lacking. Therefore, this study aims to determine the prevalence of children's exposure to parental IPV and its association with self-esteem. 482 adolescents aged 11 to 17 were included in this study from Kerala, India. The samples were chosen using convenient and random sampling methods. The child Exposure to Domestic Violence scale and Cooper smith Self-Esteem scale were used to collect the data. The correlation and gender differences were analysed using Pearson product-moment correlation and an independent sample t-test. Results show that 42.5 % of adolescents were exposed to parental IPV and that exposure to parental IPV is negatively correlated with participants' self-esteem. Sex and age differences were not statistically significantly related to exposure to parental IPV and self-esteem. Context: Emotional violence is the lesser recognized form of intimate partner violence (IPV) but causes long-lasting harm to a woman's mental and physical wellbeing. Aims: To estimate the prevalence and describe the determinants of emotional violence faced by women residing in a metropolitan city of India. Settings and Design: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 'presently married' women living in an urban residential area of Delhi. Methods and Material: We used the NFHS-3 questionnaire and criteria to record the study participants' responses regarding their experience of 'emotional violence'. Women saying yes to emotional violence further quantified the frequency of each type of abuse into 'often' or 'sometimes' in the past 12 months. Informed consent was obtained from all participants, and the Institutional Ethics Committee approved the study. Statistical Analysis Used: Logistic regression analysis was used to determine emotional violence with various socio-demographic factors and other forms of IPV. Results: A total of 99 (19.8%) women had 'ever' faced psychological abuse by their husbands. 15.2% of women were humiliated by husbands, and 11.6% of women were insulted and made to feel bad about themselves. Women whose husbands consume alcohol (OR = 1.74 (1.07–2.84), exhibit controlling behaviour, (OR = 2.79 (1.74–4.46) exhibit physical (OR = 10.83 (6.4–18.32) or sexual (OR = 5.53 (3–10.2) violence were at significantly higher risk of facing psychological abuse within their marriages. Conclusions: Physical violence and controlling were found to be significantly associated with the experience of emotional violence after adjusting for all other variables. The present study primarily examines the impact of financial distress (FD) on the dividend policy of 33 banks working in the Indian economy from 2010 to 2019. In addition, we further explore the association between financial distress and dividend policy under the influence of shareholder activism (SHA). Using the static panel data regression technique, it is revealed that financial distress is non-linearly associated with the dividend policy of banks in an inverted U-shape. In the initial phase of a distressing situation, banks tend to have a liberal dividend policy. However, after reaching the pressure point, the banks start to squeeze dividend distribution to the stakeholders. Furthermore, the significant impact of shareholder activism has been found in the association between financial distress and the dividend payout policy of banks. From the policy perspective, the study will provide the policymakers with a clear all-round perspective of distressing situations, as the current research involves exploring the impact of distress on the dividend policy that will help the experts in basically understanding the adverse effect of financial distress and the repercussions, respectively, on the earning of the shareholders. Moringa oleifera, native to India, grows in tropical and subtropical regions around the world and has valuable pharmacological properties such as anti-asthmatic, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-infertility, anti-cancer, anti-microbial, antioxidant, and many more. The purpose of this study was to assess the free radical scavenging ability of two extracts and two pure compounds of M. oleifera Lam (hexane, ethanol, compound E3, and compound Ra) against reactive oxygen species, as well as their reducing power and antimicrobial activities. Bioautography antioxidant assay, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) free radical scavenging, and iron (iii) (Fe3+ to Fe2+) chloride reducing power assays were used to assess the extracts' qualitative and quantitative free radical scavenging activities. Furthermore, the extract and the compounds were tested against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains suspended in Mueller–Hinton Broth. The extracts and pure compounds showed noteworthy antioxidant potential, with positive compound bands in the Rf range of 0.05–0.89. DPPH), H2O2, and Fe3+ to Fe2+ reduction assays revealed that ethanol extract has a high antioxidant potential, followed by compound E3, compound Ra, and finally hexane extract. Using regression analysis, the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values for test and control samples were calculated. Compound Ra and ethanol exhibited high antioxidant activity at concentrations as low as ≈ 0.28 mg/mL in comparison with n-hexane extract, compound E3, ascorbic acid, and butylated hydroxytoluene standards. The radical scavenging activity of almost all M. oleifera plant extracts against DPPH was observed at 0.28 mg/mL; however, the highest activity was observed at the same concentration for ascorbic acid and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) with a low IC50 value of 0.08 mg/mL and compound Ra and ethanol with a low IC50 of 0.4 mg/mL, respectively. The extracts and pure compounds of M. oleifera have little to no antibacterial potential. M. oleifera extracts contain antioxidant agents efficient to alleviate degenerative conditions such as cancer and cardiovascular disease but have little activity against infectious diseases. This article is about the experiences of three Chinese men who were involved in smuggling between India and China during the Second World War. Chen Mengzhao's rise as a leading figure in India-China smuggling in Calcutta uncovers the hidden links between the black markets in India and China during the Second World War. Gao Wenjie disguised himself as a Chinese army officer and utilized this fake identity to facilitate his smuggling business. Wang Li-an was sent to Calcutta to undertake smuggling for a Chinese government department. In telling these stories, this article argues that most smuggling in modern India and China was undertaken in transnational contexts that resulted in transnational effects. Ironically, the Nationalist government's state-building project to contain India-China smuggling ended by facilitating it. This project was further perceived by the British authorities as a Chinese conspiracy against India's sovereignty. The misunderstanding between the Chinese and British authorities led to the end of Chinese immigration to India in 1945. Women's contraceptive decision‐making control is crucial for reproductive autonomy, but research largely relies on the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) measure which asks who is involved with decision‐making. In India, this typically assesses joint decision‐making or male engagement. Newer measures emphasize female agency. We examined three measures of contraceptive decision‐making, the DHS and two agency‐focused measures, to assess their associations with marital contraceptive communication and use in rural Maharashtra, India. We analyzed follow‐up survey data from women participating in the CHARM2 study (n = 1088), collected in June–December 2020. The survey included the DHS (measure 1), Reproductive Decision‐Making Agency (measure 2), and Contraceptive Final Decision‐Maker measures (measure 3). Only Measure 1 was significantly associated with contraceptive communication (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 2.75, 95 percent confidence interval [CI]: 1.69–4.49) and use (AOR: 1.73, 95 percent CI: 1.14–2.63). However, each measure was associated with different types of contraceptive use: Measure 1 with condom (adjusted relative risk ratio [aRRR]: 1.99, 95 percent CI: 1.12–3.51) and intrauterine device (IUD) (aRRR: 4.76, 95 percent CI: 1.80–12.59), Measure 2 with IUD (aRRR: 1.64, 95 percent CI: 1.04–2.60), and Measure 3 with pill (aRRR: 2.00, 95 percent CI: 1.14—3.52). Among married women in Maharashtra, India, male engagement in decision‐making may be a stronger predictor of contraceptive communication and use than women's agency, but agency may be predictive of types of contraceptives used. In determining whether a company is solvent or insolvent, two tests are generally used by the bankruptcy courts across all jurisdictions: the Commercial Cash Flow test and the Balance Sheet test. While enacting the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code in 2016, India has moved away from the traditional dual test approach followed by Indian courts under the Indian companies Act to a specific Cash Flow test. This paper discusses the conceptual basis of the two tests as evolved under insolvency laws of the United Kingdom and the United States, with a view to comparatively study the nascent Indian insolvency regime. The paper concludes that irrespective of the statutorily prescribed test, over the years, courts across jurisdictions have taken recourse to both the tests to ascertain the overall commercial viability. Domestic violence (DV) is a significant public health problem in India, with women disproportionately impacted. This study a) identified risk and protective correlates of DV and, b) barriers and facilitators for seeking and receiving help for DV among women in India. A systematic search of 5 databases was performed to identify correlates of DV in the quantitative literature. The search resulted in inclusion of 68 studies for synthesis. For qualitative exploration, data were collected from 27 women in India. While factors such as social norms and attitudes supportive of DV were both risk correlates and barriers to addressing DV, women's empowerment, financial independence and informal sources of support were both protective correlates of DV as well as facilitators in addressing DV. During this COVID-19 pandemic, except steroid, none of the therapeutic measures have showed any evidence of efficacy. Traditionally jala-neti using lukewarm salted water remains a yogic way of maintaining upper airway hygiene. Saline irrigation decreases the concentration of inflammatory mediators (e.g. histamine, leukotriene etc.) in nasal secretions, reduces the severity and frequency of sinusitis, reduce need of antibiotic therapy and restores competency of nasal mucosa. Jala-neti is an integral part of six cleansing techniques of yogic kriyas practised in India since thousands of years. Jala-neti can clean the upper airways, prevents colonization of infectious agents, removes foreign bodies, prevents stasis of mucous and subsequently enhances the drainage of paranasal sinuses and maintain health. Regular practice of Jala neti improves nasal symptoms and overall health status of patients with sinusitis. Jala-neti sample can even be used for COVID-19 diagnosis. Povidone iodine (PVP-I) has been utilized as a time tested antimicrobial agent with broad spectrum coverage against wide range of bacteria and viruses. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 action of PVP-I was seen at a concentration as low as 0.45%. PVP-I is generally well tolerated upto 5%, however nasal ciliotoxicity is reported at this concentration, however, this toxicity is not reported with lower concentrations(1.25% and 0.5%). So, theoretically, by using neti-kriya with povidone iodine (0.5–1%) as irrigation solution can combine and enhance the protection against COVID-19 and this can be an important armor in the fight against COVID-19. Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) has been linked to poor health. Economic position may be an important risk factor for IPV. We examined the association between economic position and IPV at country and individual levels. We analyzed Demographic and Health Surveys data of 187,716 everpartnered women between ages 10 and 59 from 20 low- and middle-income countries. We calculated direct age-standardized 12-month prevalence of physical IPV and performed ecological analysis using Gini coefficients and Concentration indexes to assess correlation with 12-month prevalence of physical IPV. We conducted multivariable logistic regression for each country to assess the association between wealth status and physical IPV and a meta-analysis of the regression model to present results across countries. Compared to the Poorest quintile, odds of IPV among wealthier quintiles varied by country. In the Middle quintile, India had significantly reduced IPV (OR 0.75, 95%CI: 0.68-0.83). In the Richer and Richest quintiles, 4 and 6 countries had significant reductions in IPV, respectively. Only Mozambique was found to have significant increased IPV in the wealthiest quintile (OR 2.51, 95%CI: 1.45-4.38). Gini coefficient and physical IPV had a correlation coefficient of 0.502 (p value 0.033), while Concentration index had -0.276 (p value .253). Standardized prevalence for physical IPV ranged from 1.58% to 18.91%. Findings suggest that the relationship between wealth and IPV vary considerably in the included low- and middle-income countries, and that risk of IPV may not necessarily be higher among women in lower wealth brackets. Mozambique was the only country with increased odds of IPV among the Richest group as compared to the Poorest group. This study provides evidence IPV may transcend economic boundaries, and that studies looking at the link between inequality and IPV are paramount for designing adequate preventative policies. Existing studies show a mixed relationship between intimate partner violence (IPV) and contraceptive use. This study assesses the association between women's exposure to IPV and contraceptive use in India. Furthermore, we aim to determine whether husband's controlling behaviors play a moderating role in the IPV-contraception link. We used nationally representative data from the recent round of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4), conducted in 2015-2016. In this study, the use of contraceptives is the outcome variable, categorized into three groups: no/traditional methods, modern methods, and female sterilization. Women's exposure to IPV in the past year is the key exposure of interest. Socio-economic and demographic variables were used as covariates. Multinomial logistic regression models were performed to examine the association between women's exposure to IPV and contraceptive use. Of the total participants (N = 58,891), approximately one in every four women (24.1%) experienced any form of IPV in the past year. Slightly over half (50.8%) reported using either traditional methods of contraception or no contraceptive at all. About 14% of the respondents were using modern methods of contraception and 34.9% had undergone sterilization. After controlling for confounding factors, women who experienced IPV were 8% (95% CI [.87, .99]) less likely to report using modern contraceptives than those who did not face any IPV. Conversely, women who faced IPV were 14% (95% CI [1.09, 1.20]) more likely to undergo sterilization. Furthermore, women who experienced any form of IPV and whose husbands endorse controlling attitudes were 12% (95% CI [.81, .95]) less likely to report using modern contraceptives and 11% (95% CI [1.04, 1.17]) more likely to undergo sterilization. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing was taken as one of the precautionary measures in India. Uncertainty about signs and symptoms, modes of transmission, and lack of definite treatment of COVID-19 has put the overall health of people in India at risk. This study aimed at exploring the role of connectedness, affiliation, and companionship factors of social connectedness and health anxiety in predicting psychological well-being and its components. This study was carried out on 317 Indian adults recruited through a convenience sampling method from July 2020 to November 2020. Hypotheses were tested using linear regression methods. Companionship had predicted 1.9% and 7.7% of the variance in autonomy and environmental mastery, respectively. Affiliation had predicted a 6.7% variance in personal growth. Connectedness and companionship explained 26.8% variance of positive relationships with others and 16.1% of self-acceptance. Health anxiety predicted 6.3%, 6.8%, 6.7%, 8.3%, and 9% variance of autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relationship with others, and selfacceptance, respectively. 'Connectedness' and 'companionship' were the significant predictors of 'positive relationships with others' and 'self-acceptance'. 'Companionship' predicted 'autonomy' and 'environmental mastery', whereas 'personal growth' was predicted by 'affiliation'. The influence of husband's alcohol consumption and that of women's empowerment has been largely studied separately in relation to the intimate partner violence (IPV) faced by women, which has hindered a nuanced understanding of gender-based violence in India. This study aimed to understand how husbands' alcohol consumption shapes the relationship between women's empowerment and violence among Indian couples. Data from the 2015–16 National Family Health Survey (NFHS) were used in this study. A composite women's empowerment index was constructed and its association with husbands' drunkenness and odds of facing emotional, physical, severe, and sexual violence was examined. This study found that compared to women whose husbands were never drunk, those whose husbands were sometimes or often drunk had significantly higher odds of experiencing physical, emotional, and sexual violence. For all the types of IPV, an increase in the empowerment index was associated with a significant reduction in the odds of experiencing violence. However, increasing frequency of husband's drunkenness in combination with increasing scores on the empowerment index was associated with a significant increase in the odds of IPV, except sexual violence. This article is intended to support discussions about how to effectively address domestic and sexual violence. It proposes the following key strategies: expanding beyond police, courts, and prisons; adopting upstream approaches to address the social, structural, institutional, and historical drivers of violence; and using evidence-based strategies to prevent violence from happening in the first place. Comparing the United States, South Africa, India, and Brazil, the article makes the case that advocates working to address domestic and sexual violence have relied too heavily on criminal legal sanctions. Not only does this result in unmet needs of both survivors and their communities but it also expands the repressive powers of police and prosecutors and contributes to steadily growing levels of incarceration. The article concludes by calling for services that better meet the needs of survivors and for the rapid scale-up of prevention strategies, both evidence-based interventions and legal and policy approaches that address the root causes of men's violence. In recent years, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have achieved a remarkable power conversion efficiency of 25.5%, indicating that they are a promising alternative to dominant Si photovoltaic (PV) technology. This technology is expected to solve the world's energy demand with minimal investment and very low CO2 emissions. The market has shown a lot of interest in PSCs technology. A technoeconomic analysis is a useful tool for tracking manufacturing costs and forecasting whether technology will eventually achieve market‐driven prices. A technoeconomic analysis of a 100 MW carbon‐based perovskite solar module (CPSM) factory located in India is presented in this paper. Two CPSMs architectures—high‐temperature processed CPSMs (Module A) and low‐temperature processed CPSM's (Module B)—are expected to offer minimum sustainable prices (MSPs) of $ 0.21 W‐1 and $ 0.15 W‐1. On the basis of MSP, the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) is calculated to be 3.40 ¢ kWh‐1 for module A and 3.02 ¢ kWh‐1 for module B, with a 10‐year module lifetime assumption. The same modules with a 25‐year lifespan have LCOEs of 1.66 and 1.47 ¢ kWh‐1, respectively. Unlike Kamala Das and Maitreyi Devi, Pritam made a conscious decision to not self-translate her autobiography in English despite being a multilingual female author. In the twentieth century, when Pritam wrote about female emancipation and the strength of feminine authorship, English education was not offered to most women in the country.[35] Unlike Das or Devi, Pritam, although educated and plurilingual, lacked formal English education. While Kamala Das and Maitreyi Devi rely on the colonising linguistic influences of the English language in their self-translations, Pritam's distinct authorial choice of using her mother tongue to write her own confessional narrative is crucial to this research. Unlike Devi's narrative that barely touches upon the atrocities of the British rule in India, twentieth-century poet and author Amrita Pritam uses her authorship to delve into the cruelties brought forth by the Indian war of independence against the British. Prolonged inflammation after post cataract surgery causes inconvenience in patients. Inadequate treatment results in loss of vision to around 30000 patients/year in India. Currently, treatment is topical administration of eye drops. We propose a biodegradable drug delivery system (DDS) bound to intraocular lens (IOL) haptic which combines surgery and post-operative care. To overcome the disadvantages of topical administration the polymer poly lacticco-glycolic acid (PLGA) is designed as a thin film strip with Dexamethasone (DEX) to release therapeutic amount of drug over a period of 4 to 6 weeks. The study involved two PLGA co-polymer ratios 75:25 and 50:50 with different polymer:drug ratios were used to study the release of drug over a period of 30 days. PLGA75:25 (dimensions: 30x3mm; thickness 0.073mm) loaded with 158μg DEX released around 3.5μg in the first 5 days and then 0.52μg/day for remaining 25 days. The DDS was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Differential Scanning Colorimetry (DSC). In vitro drug release kinetics were mathematically modelled using zero order, first order, Higuchi, Korsmeyer-Peppas and Hixson Crowell model and then fit to experimental data. In vitro bio-efficacy of the novel copper (NC101 and NCP102) and phosphonate (PN103 and PMN104) based fungicides against various soil borne and grape vine pathogens was evaluated at ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune, Maharashtra, India during February - April 2021. The fungicides were screened against five bacterial pathogens viz. Rhizoctonia bataticola, Sclerotium rolfsii, Cladosporium sp, Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Penicillium notatum, Magnaporthe oryzae, Fusarium oxysporium, Macrophomina phaseolina (Soyabean isolate) and Macrophomina phaseolina (Jute isolate) at different concentrations. Results indicated that among all the tested fungicides viz. NC101, NCP102, PN103 and PMN104, phosphonate based fungicides (PN103 and PMN104) were highly effective against bacterial isolates with zone of inhibition ranging between 8.75 - 31.12 mm in which X. campestris pv. viticola was found to express least inhibition zone. In case of pathogenic fungal isolates, similar trend was observed, most of the isolates showed cent percent inhibition at higher concentration of PN103 and PMN104. However Sclerotium rolfsii showed least or no inhibition when tested at different concentrations of fungicides. Background: Bariatric surgery presently is the best possible intervention for treatment of severe obesity and its related conditions. This study presents retrospective data on the pregnancy outcomes of Indian patients who underwent bariatric surgery before conception. Methodology: This is a single-centre retrospective, observational study. Data on demographics, pre-surgery weight, body mass index (BMI), types of bariatric surgery, weight at conception, weight gain during pregnancy, type of delivery and the health of the baby were collected and analysed to study the weight loss pattern and pregnancy outcomes in female patients of childbearing potential. Results: The study included 34 women of childbearing potential (BMI>30 kg/m2) who underwent bariatric surgery. The study population was followed up from the time of surgery until 1-year post-delivery of the baby. The mean weight gain during the pregnancy was 14.9±5.4 kg. Twenty-three underwent LSCS, and the rest had normal delivery with mean baby weight of 2.5±0.4 kg. Six babies required neonatal intensive care. In our series, only 4 of 35 cohorts that are only 11% had substantial weight retention (range 5–13 kg) at the end of 12 months which is significantly lower than the normal cohorts who did not undergo bariatric surgery. Conclusion: Bariatric surgery improves fertility with safe pregnancy and its outcomes in terms of preeclampsia, eclampsia, gestational diabetes, premature rupture of the membranes (PROM), postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) and puerperal sepsis in women with childbearing potential and safe for offspring in terms of shoulder dystocia, macrosomia, birth asphyxia and perinatal mortality. The population of Northern River Terrapin Batagur baska is 'Critically Endangered' and threatened with extinction. In India, the species was once known to occur in the mangroves of West Bengal and Odisha. The sub-population in Odisha is suspected to have been wiped out. The Sundarban Tiger Reserve and the Turtle Survival Alliance launched a modest conservation breeding program in 2012 to recover the species using a small number of adults as founders. Gravid adult females are kept in a dedicated breeding enclosure with minimal disturbance, eggs are incubated outdoor on an artificial nesting beach, and hatchlings are raised to develop assurance colonies for purposes of reintroduction in future. Currently, the project holds 12 adults and over 350 juveniles of various size classes. Three additional assurance colonies were developed for 70 sub-adults from 2012-13 batches, using rain-fed ponds within STR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, I argue that religious nationalism poses a unique challenge to the liberal theory of religious freedom. In arguing this, the article first develops and defines an ideal type of religious nationalism through an analysis of Hindu-nationalist and religious Zionist thought. I show that religious nationalism in states like India and Israel have the unique status of intimate rivals. They are intimate since they are able to successfully present themselves as the carriers of the authentic character of the nation-state and utilize modern political tools. As a result, they are free of much of the unifying pressures of state nationalism. And they are rivals because they promote a vision of society and politics that fundamentally challenges the political identity of the state. The paper then turns to the justifications and rationales of religious freedom—both in seminal cases and in political and legal scholarship—and applies them to religious nationalism. It argues that the status of intimate rivalry should, depending on which justification of religious freedom we adhere to, change the way in which we morally and legally understand religious nationalism. First, because religious nationalism is intimate—that is, acceptable and mainstream—it should be approached as a part of the culture of the majority. This implies that we should be less concerned about infringements of religious freedom in the case of the adherents and organizations of religious nationalism.
