Purpose: This research seeks to delve into the potential of solar power as a sustainable and renewable energy solution, specifically examining its effectiveness in addressing energy poverty within the complex framework of the Indian energy landscape. Methods: Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research conducts an extensive literature review to establish the current knowledge landscape, identifying gaps and contextualizing the global and Indian scenarios. Quantitative analysis utilizes statistical data from sources such as the International Energy Agency, governmental reports, and research organizations to track the historical evolution of India's energy supply and solar power capacity. Case studies from China, India, and Bangladesh are presented to draw insights from successful solar projects. Additionally, policy analysis evaluates the effectiveness of current and past energy policies in India in promoting solar adoption and mitigating energy poverty. Results: The study unveils trends, and the impact of policy interventions in India's energy landscape. Comparative analyses position India within the global solar PV market. Case studies illustrate successful solar projects' impact on alleviating energy poverty. Policy analysis provides insights into the strengths and weaknesses of existing energy policies. Conclusion: Solar power emerges as a promising solution to end energy poverty, demonstrating significant cost competitiveness and sustainable attributes. The research underscores the need for targeted policies, financial incentives, and technological innovations to overcome challenges. Floating solar photovoltaic (FSPV) systems offer a more sustainable energy option than ground-mounted ones by avoiding land use and enabling decentralised power generation. This paper presents a conceptual hybrid design for an actual hydropower plant and a simulated FSPV plant, considering relevant factors. Five significant reservoir dams in India were chosen to test the proposed design, and as a novelty, the cooling effect was considered. In general, the cooling impact is dependent on the kind of supporting structure. Metrics such as generation, carbon dioxide (CO2) reductions, water savings and extra hydropower were computed in this work by considering two kinds of floating structures. The results indicate that with a total coverage of less than 20%, the hydroelectric reservoirs can double their installed power capacity. In terms of energy gain, the hydroelectric plant generated 92% more energy on average after integrating floating solar power. Furthermore, the capacity factor of the plant grew by an average of 18.43%. The total water savings in this scenario are 134.6 million m3, resulting in an additional 34.97 GWh of annual hydroelectricity generation. The cost–benefit analysis shows that the energy produced by FSPV is the most cost effective, ranging from 2.65 to 3.05 Indian rupees/kWh (US$0.03–0.04/kWh), depending on the FSPV platform. In the face of global climate change, the urgent shift towards renewable energy sources such as solar power is vital for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fostering a sustainable future, presenting a universal challenge and opportunity for energy policy worldwide. India's adoption of rooftop solar photovoltaic is pivotal due to its vast solar potential, which aligns with national goals to increase renewable energy capacity, reduce carbon emissions, and achieve energy security. Kerala's geographical location offers abundant solar potential, making it a prime candidate for the adoption of rooftop solar photovoltaic systems. Coupled with the state's strong commitment to renewable energy initiatives such as the ambitious "SOURA" (solar subsidy program by the Kerala State Electricity Board) project and various incentives for solar adoption, Kerala stands at the forefront of India's transition towards sustainable energy solutions. Understanding the barriers to rooftop solar photovoltaic adoption in Kerala is crucial for tailoring effective policies and strategies that address specific hindrances from economic constraints to informational gaps. This study employs a qualitative research method to identify the barriers to rooftop solar photovoltaic adoption among households in Kerala. Through face-to-face interviews with a purposively selected sample of 52 households, the research aims to gain in-depth insights into the multifaceted challenges hindering the widespread adoption of solar energy in residential settings. The findings reveal several key barriers: financial barriers, informational barriers, technical barriers, regulatory barriers, social barriers, and psychological barriers. Sentiment analysis indicates that while there is a predominantly positive attitude towards solar photovoltaic adoption, there are significant concerns that still need to be addressed. Addressing these barriers with targeted policy interventions and public awareness campaigns could significantly enhance the adoption of rooftop solar photovoltaic systems in Kerala. Nowadays, to achieve sustainable development and avoid devastating impacts on the environment, India is making rapid and broad changes to green energy technology. In order to provide long-term energy security with lower emissions, renewable energy sources are essential. It is well known that renewable energy technologies, or RETs, have the capacity to significantly meet the demand for electricity while lowering pollution levels. The nation has set up an ecologically friendly energy route in recent years. In this paper, we apply multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) models to determine the best renewable energy technology for India. We use the MULTIMOORA model to identify the best technology under the pythagorean neutrosophic fuzzy set (PNFS) and the FUCOM to obtain the criteria weights. Technological advancements have made it possible to harness the power of renewable energy sources. The efficiency of power electronic devices has increased to almost 98%. In order to reduce the risks of failure and maintain the operation of photovoltaic (PV)-based energy converters, reliable devices are needed. Due to the increasing number of wide-bandgap silicon in electronic converters, the need for more efficient and reliable devices has become more prevalent. However, the cost of these devices is a major issue. Hence, in this work extensive analysis of hybrid silicon (Si)-IGBT and silicon carbide (SiC) antiparallel Diode (H-IGBT/Diode) based PV inverter is proposed to improve the lifetime (Bx). A reliability oriented lifetime assessment is performed on a test case of single stage three kilowatt photovoltaic inverter with 600 V/30 A hybrid switch. Long term mission profile for one year is considered for evaluation at B. V. Raju Institute of Technology (BVRIT), Telangana, India. Finally, B10 lifetime is calculated, comparison analysis is presented between conventional Si-IGBT and proposed Si-SiC H-IGBT/Diode. This study examines the long-run impact of coal usage decline from a disaggregated energy consumption perspective by considering the role of coal usage on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and economic growth. For this purpose, the study focuses on China and India as the leading coal-user countries; considers coal, oil, natural gas, and renewable energy consumption as explanatory variables; uses yearly data from 1990 to 2021, and applies a novel dynamic autoregressive distributed lag (DYNARDL) simulations. Also, the Kernel-based regularized least squares (KRLS) approach is performed for robustness checks. The outcomes show that (i) there is cointegration between coal usage and CO2 emissions, and between coal usage and economic growth in the long run; (ii) coal usage is the most important indicator among explanatory variables; (iii) coal usage has a statistically significant impact on CO2 emissions in both China and India; (iv) however, coal usage is not significantly effective on economic growth for both China and India based on DYNARDL simulations; (v) negative counterfactual shocks in coal usage have a decreasing impact on CO2 emissions; (vi) KRLS results show that coal usage has a causal impact on CO2 emissions and the results of the DYNARDL simulations are robust. Hence, counterfactual shocks present important insights about the future impacts of coal usage decline on both CO2 emissions and economic growth. Based on the empirical results, policy implications, such as decreasing the amount of coal usage on and increasing the amount of alternative energy sources in the total energy mix, are also proposed. The escalation in energy demand due to the rising population highlights the need for the transition toward sustainable power generation alternatives. In this context, floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) systems emerge as an innovative and environmentally friendly alternative, offering the dual benefits of energy generation and conservation of terrestrial resources. Based on ERA5 datasets, an in-depth analysis of the potential and efficiency of FPV systems, specifically within the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), is conducted in this study. Findings of this study evidence the substantial capacity of the Indian EEZ that could yield energy that is equivalent to 43 times of annual consumption by utilizing 10% of the EEZ region. A full-scale utilization of the EEZ for FPV systems could revolutionize the energy landscape, potentially generating 433 times the country's present annual energy requirements. A complete transition to such renewable energy sources within the EEZ is projected to result in an annual reduction of 595 billion metric tons in carbon emissions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study seeks to identify and highlight the differences in the environmental sustainability and environmental protection practices of industrialized countries. For this purpose, thirty industrialized countries were examined using a multi-criteria integrated decision model based on fourteen environmental sustainability performance criteria. An open-source software based on the Python that allows different multi-criteria decision-making methods to be used through a user-friendly interface was developed for evaluations. The results from the developed software rank Sweden first and India last in their environmental sustainability performances. Sweden stands out notably in terms of negative greenhouse gas emission technologies, afforestation, reforestation, environmental laws, carbon tax, bioenergy, and national consciousness. India, on the other hand, does not appear to handle environmental problems in a timely and appropriate manner considering its large population and development needs. Development, utilization, and expansion of renewable energy sources, waste recycling, waste reduction, proper waste disposal, and prioritization of the development of technologies with zero or negative greenhouse gas emissions have emerged as significant factors for environmentally friendly industrialization. Microgrids and hybrid renewable energy systems play a crucial role in today's energy transition. They enable local power generation and distribution, reducing dependence on large centralized infrastructures, can operate independently or connected to a grid, and can provide backup power, thus increasing system resilience. In addition, they combine multiple renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass, to maximize the efficiency and reliability of the supply, and are also adaptable to location-specific conditions, taking advantage of locally available energy resources and reducing the need for energy imports. Moreover, they contribute to decarbonization goals by offering a cleaner and more sustainable alternative. In this article, a documentary review is presented on the interaction of Homer Pro software 3.16.2 (July 2023), used for the design of hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES), with other methods of optimization or sizing. Allusion is made to the type of architecture in the most prominent clean and fossil source configurations, the levelized cost, net annual cost, and maintenance and capital investment cost. A comparison is made among the works reported in the last five years regarding the use of this software tool, based on load demand, geographical area, renewable energy sources, fossil sources, and objective functions, applied to the educational, rural, and industrial sectors. It is shown that India is one of the countries that has reported the most number of HRES techno-economic environmental analysis works, and that the case studies have focused approximately 47% on rural areas, 20% on educational agencies, 14% on commerce and industry, and 29% on urban buildings. Access to affordable and reliable energy sources can substantially enhance the lives of marginalized communities in rural areas. Unfortunately, numerous households in these communities rely upon unclean sources of energy such as kerosene to light the house even during daylight. To address this issue, solar off-grid technology - Micro Solar Dome (MSD) was implemented in various states across India, specifically benefiting the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities. The study, across the eight selected states, highlights the advantages of adopting off-grid technologies and their roles in promoting awareness of renewable energy solutions. The survey used purposive sampling to collect community members' perceptions of the product's benefits and their awareness of renewable technologies. The results indicated that the utilization of the product not only enhanced illumination levels within households but also contributed to improved safety, increased study hours for children, and facilitated economic activities during the evening hours. Furthermore, the study revealed that education plays a crucial role in adopting solar energy. However, interventions such as awareness programs and hands-on experiences with the products can also greatly enhance awareness and promote adoption in rural areas. Overall, the study provided compelling evidence of the significant and positive impact that small-scale initiatives like the MSD can have on the lives of marginalized communities. Indian household biogas system appears promising to contribute substantially to its commitment to increase the share of renewable energy. There has been a consistent effort to promote the household biogas system by the Government of India. Despite such need and effort, the growth of household biogas system in India is not encouraging. Further, the need for appropriate management services for hassle‐free operation and maintenance of household biogas system is also analyzed based on field survey conducted in three villages. Cow dung is the primary feedstock and its abundant availability results in a higher level of adoption of household biogas plants in one of the villages. Alternative feedstocks can adequately supplement cow dung to support the household biogas system in the remaining two villages. Though the higher capital cost of the biogas system is a distracting factor, biogas as a cooking fuel is cheaper than both LPG and fuelwood while considering long‐term analysis. Thus, the continuation of subsidy on household biogas plant is justified considering the issue of affordability to bear capital cost even though for long‐term use non‐subsidized option is also profitable. The non‐availability of own feedstock is a critical issue which influences the economy of biogas users and hence the motivation. Analysis also revealed that the undesirable performance of household biogas system is mostly linked with the absence of proper diagnosis. Chronical poor performance is attributed to one or more factors related to feedstock, microbial activities, and climatic parameters which remain unknown to the users and lead to their diminishing interest. As both the population and economic output of India continue to grow, so does its demand for electricity. Coupled with an increasing determination to transition to net zero, India has responded to this rising demand by rapidly expanding its installed renewable capacity: an increase of 60% in the last 5 years has been driven largely by a quintupling of installed solar capacity. In this study, we use broad variety of data sources to quantify potential and realized capacity over India from 1979 to 2022. For potential capacity, we identify spatiotemporal patterns in solar, wind, hydro and wave power. We show that solar capacity factor is relatively homogeneous across India, except over the western Himalaya, and is highest during the pre‐monsoon. Wind capacity factor is highest during the summer monsoon, and has high values off the southern coast, along the Western Ghats, and in Gujarat. We argue that wave power could be a useful source of renewable energy for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which are not connected to the main Indian power grid. Using gridded estimates of existing installed capacity combined with our historical capacity factor dataset, we create a simple but effective renewable production model. We use this model to identify weaknesses in the existing grid—particularly a lack of complementarity between wind and solar production in north India, and vulnerability to high‐deficit generation in the winter. Unlike previous studies in the environment-finance-energy linkage, to analyze the causal and long-run effects of renewable energy and financial innovation on the quality of the environment in India while taking into account GDP and primary energy consumption, this research employs Fourier base approaches, namely Fourier augmented Dickey–Fuller (F-ADF) unit root test, Fourier autoregressive distributive lag (F-ADL) cointegration test, Fourier autoregressive distributed lag (F-ARDL) cointegration test, and Fourier Toda Yamamoto (F-TY) causality test. The outcomes of the present study reveal that (i) financial innovation and renewable energy consumption cause to decrease in environmental degradation in India; (ii) GDP and primary energy consumption increase (and cause) environmental degradation. Purpose: This study aims to assess the nexus among oil price (OP), renewable energy consumption (REC) and trade balance (TB) for India using annual time series data for the time period 1985–2019. In particular, the authors examine whether REC improves India's TB in the context of high oil import dependence. Design/methodology/approach: The study uses autoregressive distributed lags (ARDL) bound testing approach that has the advantage of yielding estimates of long-run and short-run parameters simultaneously. Moreover, the small sample properties of this approach are superior to other multivariate cointegration techniques. Fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) and dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) are also applied to test the robustness of the results. The causality among the series is investigated through block exogeneity test based on vector error correction model. Findings: The findings based on ARDL bounds testing approach indicate that OPs exert a negative impact on TB of India in both long run and short run, whereas REC has a favorable impact on the TB. In particular, 1% increase in OPs decreases TBs by 0.003% and a 1% increase in REC improves TB by 0.011%. The results of FMOLS and DOLS corroborate the findings from ARDL estimates. The results of block exogeneity test suggest unidirectional causation from OPs to TB; OPs to REC and REC to TB. Practical implications: The study underscore the importance of renewable energy as a potential tool to curtail trade deficits in the context of Indian economy. Our results suggest that the policymakers must pay attention to the hindrances in augmentation of renewable energy usage and try to capitalize on the resulting gains for the TB. Social implications: Climate change is a major challenge for developing countries like India. Renewable energy sector is considered an important instrument toward attaining the twin objectives of environmental sustainability and employment generation. This study underscores another role of REC as a tool to achieve a sustainable trade position, which may help India save her valuable forex reserves for broader objectives of economic development. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study that probes the dynamic nexus among OPs, REC and TB in Indian context. From a policy standpoint, the study underscores the importance of renewable energy as a potential tool to curtail trade deficits in context of India. Surface solar radiation (SSR) is a fundamental energy source for an equitable and sustainable future. Meteorology-induced variability increases uncertainty in SSR, thereby limiting its reliability due to its intermittent nature. This variability depends on several meteorological factors, including clouds, atmospheric gases, and aerosol concentrations. This research investigates the detailed impact of different levels of clouds and aerosols on SSR across India. Utilizing satellite data with reanalysis retrievals, the research covers a span of three decades (30 years), from 1993 to 2022. Aerosols contributed to an average attenuation of ~13.33% on SSR, while high, mid, and low cloud conditions showed much stronger impacts, with an attenuation of ~30.80%, ~40.10%, and ~44.30%, respectively. This study reveals an alarming pattern of increasing cloud impact (Cimpact) on SSR in the recent decade, with a significant increasing rate of ~0.22% year−1 for high cloud (HCimpact) and ~0.13% year−1 for mid cloud (MCimpact) impact, while low cloud impact (LCimpact) showed minimal change. The trend of aerosol impact (Aimpact) also showed an average increase of ~0.14% year−1 across all regions. The findings underscore the imperative of considering climatic variables while studying the growing solar dimming. The present study explores the status of nuclear energy developments for generation of electric power. Notably, India's pivotal role in advancing nuclear technology is highlighted, particularly with the development of a cutting-edge nuclear Fast Breeder Reactor (FBR) technology-based power plant. India has been developing the latest nuclear Fast Breeder Reactor (FBR) technology-based power plant having power generation capacity 10 times higher than the existing nuclear power plants. The review incorporates the most important component of the FBR system i.e. cold trap. Model Sodium Cold Trap (MSCT) is used by India to demonstrate the regeneration of secondary sodium cold trap.The development, advancements and challenges towards the Model Sodium Cold Trap (MSCT) are discussed in detail. It is possible to increase the maximum in-situ regeneration of MSCT up to 82%. This paper also reviews status of energy production using renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Cities and urban communities constitute a challenging paradox. They are contributors to climate change and simultaneously are essential focal bases for economic activity. Urbanization, population growth, economic development, and prosperity contribute to increased city greenhouse gas emissions. Envisioning and shaping a shift toward more ambitious climate responses is both an opportunity and a challenge for cities to action transformations toward sustainability. The discourse on sustainability transformations involves the reorientation and restructuring of governance processes and actions. Though the governance of transformation involves multiple actors, this article examines the role of the Indian judiciary in steering a transformation process toward a sustainable and equitable future. Indian city-and-climate-change case law is examined as a case study. Sectoral examples from construction, waste, livestock, transport, and renewable energy illustrate key areas addressed through the judicial incremental-reformist approach. Bolstering the implementation and enforcement of environmental and climate laws alongside the infusion of a powerful sustainability agenda, the Indian judiciary creates enabling conditions for transformational change. The main objective of the research study is to analyze the determinants of inflation in the following countries; Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India. The research study utilized the data set from 1980 to 2022. For the purpose of empirical analysis, ARDL auto regressive distributed lag is employed. The findings indicate that in Pakistan Exports, Money-Supply, Exchange-rate and Oil Rents positively significantly influence the Inflation. While GDP has a negative significant influence on inflation. In India, Exports, Money-supply and Oil rents positively significantly affect the inflation. In Bangladesh there is significant relationship between GDP, Oil Rents and inflation. While exchange-rate has negative significant impact on inflation. This study explores the potential of utilizing a pico‐pumped storage system (PPSH) as an energy storage solution to enhance the integration of renewable energy sources in a multi‐story building. The study seeks to evaluate the system's ability to fulfil the energy requirements of a part of a multi‐storey building, considering factors such as cost‐effectiveness, longevity, and environmental impact. Basic relationships are used to model both floating solar PV systems and pumped storage systems in MATLAB. An algorithm based on linear programming is used to generate the optimal schedule, while a particle swarm optimization‐based algorithm is employed for the optimal design of the proposed system. In order to analyze the economic feasibility, the levelized cost of solar energy and the levelized cost of stored energy are estimated. An optimally sized floating solar PV integrated pico pumped storage system with an optimal operating strategy can perform technically. However, due to practical limitations, the system's dimensions cannot accommodate real‐world storage requirements. When levelized costs are considered, a pico‐pumped storage system becomes less appealing than battery storage systems, particularly if a new storage tank is to be constructed. Compared to battery storage systems, pumped storage systems have a lower energy density, which requires more space and height, especially in buildings. Pumped storage systems, on the other hand, have a longer lifespan and a lower environmental impact. Overall, the proposed system, along with an optimal scheduling algorithm, provides a long‐term solution for energy storage, aligning with the growing global emphasis on lowering carbon emissions and embracing renewable energy sources. Although there may be a high initial investment requirement and a restricted storage capacity, the sustained advantages of energy independence and a diminished carbon footprint render it an appealing option for environmentally conscious communities and green buildings. The coir industry in India's southern coastal regions, especially in the state of Kerala, is becoming increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of the accumulation and incremental increase of coir pith each year. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of pretreatment on the anaerobic digestion of coir pith. The characterization study of coir pith shows high organic content, which can be anaerobically digested to produce biogas. But, the high lignin content (30.91%) makes the process slow. To overcome this, a biological pretreatment method was tried using two microbial cultures belonging to fungal genera known to be lignin decomposers, viz., Trichoderma and Pleurotus. By using Trichoderma, lignin content was reduced by 3.7%, and the maximum gas production was obtained in a shorter time (19 days) in comparison with the sample without any pretreatment (24 days). When Pleurotus was used for lignin degradation, the lignin content was reduced by 6.78%, and the maximum gas production was obtained in a much shorter time period (14 days) in comparison with the former two methods. The gas produced comprises 74 ppm of methane, which has fuel value. The sludge after digestion was tested, which indicated a marginal increase in NPK value and hence can be used as fertilizer. The results of the study appear to be quite promising in the transition towards green energy by providing scope for the process of biomethanation, with the conclusion that further research can transform coir pith into a good renewable energy resource. Reversible airflow fixed bed dryer (RAFBD) is an energy‐efficient, cost‐effective, and dependable dryer for using renewable energy sources in parboiling mills. In this study, a medium‐sized and high‐moisture parboiled paddy, ASD‐16, was dried in the RAFBD to determine its deep drying characteristics and thermodynamic properties. The chosen paddy variety is a commonly cultivated paddy in the southern region of Tamil Nadu, India. The RAFBD experimental setup was designed to dry 30 kg of parboiled paddy. For the statistical analysis, the experimental data for the deep‐bed drying at hot air temperatures 50–80°C and velocities of 0.1 and 0.15 m/s were used at constant specific humidity. To predict drying characteristics, 12 drying models were compared. Based on their statistical parameters, the Midilli et al. model was selected. For the tested conditions, the coefficients for effective moisture diffusion, heat transfer, and mass transfer were between 9.82 × 10−8 and 2.13 × 10−7 m2/s, 0.3802 and 1.325 W/m2 K, and 0.375 × 10−4 and 1.26 × 10−4 m/s, respectively. Furthermore, the determined activation energy ranged from 20.4964 to 20.4390 kJ/mol. Practical Applications: ASD‐16 is one of the popular paddy varieties cultivated and used in parboiling mills in the study region. The outcome of this research can contribute to the application of a cost‐effective dryer for drying high‐moisture paddy. Furthermore, the drying time and bed height proposed in this work can reduce the drying time in the mills and improve energy efficiency. The drying kinetics and suitability of the models found in this study will contribute to the design and development of low‐cost dryers for the local parboiling industries. As rice husk, which is a waste from paddy processing, is used for the heating process, industries can reduce the cost of energy for closed‐roof drying. Purpose: This empirical research intends to examine factors influencing the adoption of renewable energy (RE) using a conceptual model of the consumer decision-making process. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses a primary response-based survey to collect data from 668 respondents interested in adopting RE for their daily usage. The sample respondents were chosen through a multi-stage random stratified technique. The responses were analyzed through structural equation-based modeling techniques to discuss the findings and suggest further implications. Findings: The findings suggest that factors like knowledge, policy incentives, sustainable development goals (SDGs-7, 11 and 13), socio-economic benefits and risk perception significantly impact the adoption of RE. Besides, risk perception mediates between environmental concerns and the adoption of RE. Also, age has a significant role in RE adoption. Social implications: The study finds the critical role of government in introducing financial incentives to reduce the initial cost of renewable adoption. Doing so will also promote clean and equitable energy access to society leading to further fulfillment of SDGs. Additionally, steps like knowledge enrichment, designing suitable policies for a manufacturer and public-friendly renewable market development will further facilitate renewable adoption in society. Hydrogen is the new age alternative energy source to combat energy demand and climate change. Storage of hydrogen is vital for a nation's growth. Works of literature provide different methods for storing the produced hydrogen, and the rational selection of a viable method is crucial for promoting sustainability and green practices. Typically, hydrogen storage is associated with diverse sustainable and circular economy (SCE) criteria. As a result, the authors consider the situation a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. Studies infer that previous models for hydrogen storage method (HSM) selection (i) do not consider preferences in the natural language form; (ii) weights of experts are not methodically determined; (iii) hesitation of experts during criteria weight assessment is not effectively explored; and (iv) three-stage solution of a suitable selection of HSM is unexplored. Driven by these gaps, in this paper, authors put forward a new integrated framework, which considers double hierarchy linguistic information for rating, criteria importance through inter-criteria correlation (CRITIC) for expert weight calculation, evidence-based Bayesian method for criteria weight estimation, and combined compromise solution (CoCoSo) for ranking HSMs. The applicability of the developed framework is testified by using a case example of HSM selection in India. The K-Medoids algorithm is adopted along with the proposed elephant herd optimization (EHO) algorithm in this peculiar work to cluster the consumers according to their required load consumption patterns and for price-based demand response (DR) program implementation. Consumer baseline load (CBL) estimation is done using the clustered load data. The novel approach of clustering the data analysis in this proposed work is done by collecting the load data from the transformer centers under the control of the 33/11 kV substation in the state of Goa, India, as well as the price data from the state load dispatch center and Indian energy exchange. Further the aggregated load data obtained for the 11 kV feeder is used to estimate the reference consumer load consumption by using regression and an artificial neural network model. Consumer response towards load change with price is modeled based on price elasticity and the consumer benefit function. An EHO algorithm is proposed for implementing the time of use (TOU) DR program for domestic consumers. The algorithm's effectiveness and robustness is demonstrated by comparing the results with those of the genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization technique. The proposed work of CBL estimation, consumer segregation, and optimum evaluation of the TOU DR program using the EHO algorithm assists in the implementation of DR programs. The proposed research can be used for analyzing the demand reduction potential, deployment of alternative energy sources, reduction in the use of conventional energy sources, promotion of energy efficiency, and the reduction of CO2 emissions. The frequency, intensity, and duration of extreme heatwaves are projected to increase in the global context of climate change. However, evidence of how anthropogenic emissions respond to heatwaves and further impact air quality remains elusive. Here, we use satellite remote sensing measurements alongside chemical transport model simulations to reveal abrupt variations in primary and secondary air pollutants introduced by extreme heatwaves. We highlight evidence from China and India, where satellite sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) columns over thermal power plants enhance consistently responding to heatwaves. We attribute such spiked emissions to soaring electricity use and demonstrate that bottom‐up inventories underestimate the emissions from the power sector by 34.9% for the selected case. Elevated emissions facilitate fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone (O3) formation over thermal power plants in an inhomogeneous manner, due to the combined effect of atmospheric oxidizing capacity, thermal decomposition of peroxyacetyl nitrate, planetary boundary layer rise, and air stagnation. Our results underscore the emerging challenge of pollution control attributable to the increasing climate penalty and the necessity of targeted control strategies and alternative energy sources during heatwaves. Annually 5.6 million tonnes of FVW are produced in India. Anaerobic digestion (AD) holds the potential of generating renewable energy from this organic waste. Therefore, an attempt has been made to optimize inoculum to substrate (I/S) ratio via biochemical methane potential (BMP) of FVW using two different types of inoculums viz. anaerobic sludge and a mixture of anaerobic sludge and cow dung in (1:1) ratio. Different (I/S) ratios selected for the study were 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, and 0.6. Results indicated that anaerobic sludge (AS) along with cow dung (CD) at a (1:1) ratio performed better than AS alone. The highest cumulative biogas yield was obtained at (I/S) ratio 0.3 for AS+CD (1:1) ratio, which is equivalent to 468.82 ml/g VS. On the other hand, the biogas yield using only AS was found to be 459.49ml/g VS. The highest methane content was obtained as 64% and 61.2%, for inoculums AS+CD and AS, respectively. Performance analysis portrayed volatile solids (VS) reductions of 74% and 68% for (AS+CD) and AS, respectively. Environmental deterioration and climate change are the key issues nowadays that hinder sustainable development, and the consumption of fossil fuel‐based energy sources significantly contributes to the issues. To achieve Sustainable Development Goal‐7 concerning sustainable and clean energy development, deploying non‐conventional energy sources is crucial. Solar energy is considered a significantly clean and sustainable energy source among renewable energy sources. Therefore, the present study attempted to investigate the key factors affecting the adoption of non‐residential Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (RSPV) systems in Chandigarh, India. The researchers used a descriptive research design to examine the current phenomena. The current study is premised on the perceptions of the users of the non‐residential RSPV system. The data was acquired through a self‐administered survey questionnaire. A complete response from 207 participants was used for analysis purposes. The researchers have used the Partial Least Square‐Structural Equation Modeling strategy to estimate measurement and structural models. The study found that nodal agencies and environmental organizations are crucial in disseminating information and motivations concerning RSPV adoption. The study revealed that the environmental concerns of the users, compatibility, environmental benefits, the immediacy of reward, and trialability were found to be significant drivers of the diffusion and adoption of non‐residential RSPV systems. The surge in interest surrounding renewable energy stems from concerns regarding pollution and the finite supply of nonrenewable resources. Solar PV and wind hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) are increasingly recognized as practical and cost-effective solutions, particularly in remote areas. However, the intermittent nature of solar and wind power presents a challenge. To address this, incorporating a hydrogen source into the system has been proposed. This study focuses on modelling and sizing a hybrid energy system tailored for remote areas, accommodating both home and electric vehicle loads. The simulation is conducted for Siliguri, West Bengal, India, with the goal of optimizing productivity, minimizing expenses, and considering economic factors using HOMER Pro software. The integration of green hydrogen-based power generation with photovoltaic and wind HRES emerges as an effective solution. Solar power, in particular, showcases promising opportunities for the electrolysis process and HRES systems. The presented work facilitates the modelling of a green hydrogen-based green energy system, taking into account capacity, cost, and emission constraints. Various case studies are conducted to enhance system efficiency and reduce the costs of energy (COE). In this paper, three cases of grid-connected and three cases of off-grid or grid-disconnected systems are considered for highlighting the benefits of hydrogen energy incorporation in both types of systems. India, with its rapidly growing economy, has an increasing demand for energy consumption. This study thus adds to the energy-economic growth literature by exploring the effect of renewable (hydro and nuclear) and non-renewable (coal and oil) energy consumption by different sources on the economic growth of India, spanning from 1985 to 2021. The ARDL estimator is used to assess the short- and long-run growth effectiveness of the explanatory variables, while the variance decomposition analysis (VDA) is employed to examine the degree to which one variable can explain the change in variance of another variable. Among the renewable energy sources, hydro-energy consumption is found to be impeding economic growth, while nuclear energy is found to be inducing India's economic growth in the long run. Furthermore, among the non-renewable energy sources, oil consumption is found to be impeding the economic growth, while coal consumption is observed to be augmenting India's economic growth in the long run significantly. The findings reveal that non-renewable energy use plays a crucial role in the economic growth of India; thus, from a policy standpoint, this study recommends the government to invest more in the advancement of the renewable energy sector in order to balance the energy mix and achieve sustainable economic growth. Green hydrogen, a carbon-neutral fuel, has the potential to reduce atmospheric greenhouse gas and plays a vital role in mitigating climate change. Its potential is immense in renewable-rich Asian economies, however, its production is yet to start with key factors such as safety parameters, resources, proper government incentives, and public acceptability affecting its optimal generation. This study employs three multi-criteria decision-making approach like analytic hierarchy process (AHP), decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL), and Fuzzy-AHP followed by the sensitivity analysis to identify and prioritize the robustness of the five primary potentials (social, political, economic, technical, and environmental). Subsequently, categorized into 22 sub-potentials of green hydrogen and ideal renewable resource for the sustainable development objective of India. The results of the DEMATEL analysis suggest that the social is the key predictor and the last one is Technical. The Fuzzy-TOPSIS method suggests that solar is the best renewable energy resource followed by wind, small hydro, and biomass energy. Hence, the government's intervention and robust policy frameworks are required to increase its production with special emphasis on cost considering solar energy. The significant natural energy sources for reducing the global usage of fossil fuels are renewable energy (RE) sources. Solar energy is a crucial and reliable RE source. Site selection for solar photovoltaic (PV) farms is a crucial issue in terms of spatial planning and RE policies. This study adopts a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based Multi-Influencing Factor (MIF) technique to enhance the precision of identifying and delineating optimal locations for solar PV farms. The choice of GIS and MIF is motivated by their ability to integrate diverse influencing factors, facilitating a holistic analysis of spatial data. The selected influencing factors include solar radiation, wind speed, Land Surface Temperature (LST), relative humidity, vegetation, elevation, land use, Euclidean distance from roads, and aspect. The optimal sites of solar PV power plant delineated revealed that 'very low' suitability of site covering 4.866% of the study area, 'low' suitability of site 13.190%, 'moderate' suitability of site 31.640%, 'good' suitability of site 32.347%, and 'very good' suitability of site for solar PV power plant encompassing 17.957% of the study area. The sensitivity analysis results show that the solar radiation, relative humidity, and elevation are the most effective on the accuracy of the prediction. The validation of the results shows the accuracy of solar PV power plant prediction using MIF technique in the study area was 81.80%. The integration of GIS and MIF not only enhances the accuracy of site suitability assessment but also provides a practical implementation strategy. In this work, a technical and social viewpoint on strategic renewable energy implementation based on tactical factors with a restrained viability, in selected places in India are presented. The argument initiates with the consideration of augmenting the available resources at a place of interest and leveraging the homegrown advantage over non-local facilities. Such undertakings can facilitate resource efficiency, by combining technological and economic rewards for the overall benefit of society unlocking the aspects of co-dependence on alternate energy forms. Nine different places in India were identified in Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Karnataka and explored employing physical survey, to identify the distinct geographies, allowing a narrative building in favor of strategic deployment. This mapping of resources, when applied to the local conditions by using a stochastic model developed as a direct output from the work. The result of the survey expresses that nominated people’s opinion is heavily skewed toward bioenergy and solar by almost a factor of 2, in comparison to wind, small hydro, geothermal, and hydrogen. Respondents recorded about 80% urban and 25% rural for solar, followed by bioenergy at 68% urban and 46% rural. Geothermal and hydrogen received the least (<20% urban, <5% rural). The share of renewable energy share in India's energy mix of India has been increasing recently owing to the promotion and implementation of various government policies that promote the use of renewable sources of energy, depleting fossil fuel levels, increasing fuel prices, and stringent laws for emission reduction worldwide. The increase in the use of solar-evacuated-tube-collector-based domestic water heating is the result of this transition from conventional to nonconventional sources of energy. The recent urban agglomeration is challenging to install these solar water heaters in every household because the roof space is limited. Space reduction can be achieved by reducing the collector area by varying the diameter of the evacuated tubes. This study used a single tube and tank arrangement model with a fixed inclination to achieve a thermosyphon effect in a solar water heating system with three different diameter configurations of 48 mm, 54 mm, and 72 mm, with a tube measuring 1800 mm in length. Thermal assessment of the thermosyphon-based evacuated tube-solar water heater using the ANSYS CFD simulation software involves measuring the temperature at three different positions in the tank to study the thermosyphon initialization. This study signifies that the 72-mm-diameter evacuated tube is more capable of initializing the thermosyphon effect in the system. Motivation: Tea, derived from the Camellia sinensis plant, holds the position of being the most widely consumed manufactured beverage globally. Its cultivation necessitates specific agro-climatic conditions, leading to its production being confined to select regions, notably including India. India contributes about 20.81% to the world's tea output. The production and processing of tea leaves to final product consume energy in terms of machinery, fertilizer, irrigation etc. The energy consumption involved in tea production is a pressing concern, given the associated high costs and CO2 emissions resulting from fossil fuel usage. To achieve a net-zero carbon balance, there is need to pay attention towards promoting renewable energy technologies as a means to mitigate the CO2 emissions stemming from fossil fuels in India's tea sector. Objectives: Aligned with the objective of sustainability through the integration of renewable energy sources, a pilot study was conducted in the primary teagrowing regions of northeastern India during 2021-22. The primary aims of this study were twofold: to gauge the quantity of CO2 emissions originating from conventional energy sources and to explore the feasibility of incorporating renewable energy sources as viable substitutes. Data and methods: Data on various inputs used in tea production were collected from Assam and West Bengal states of India by using a stratified random sampling method with equal probability and without replacement. Results: The findings of this investigation underscore a noteworthy potential for the adoption of renewable energy, particularly solar energy, within the tea estates situated in the north eastern region of India. With growing concern about risks related to energy security around the world, the development of hydrogen cooperation between India and Japan has become very important to ensure the economic security of the two countries and to deepen economic cooperation. This study visualizes the costs and economic issues involved in transporting Ammonia from India to Japan and discusses the policy support needed to establish a hydrogen supply chain between the two countries. If Hydrogen production is conducted in Gujarat and Ammonia production is conducted using Haber–Bosch at a large-scale Ammonia plant, the price of Ammonia at the port of Tokyo can be reduced to 572 USD/mt-NH3 if highly competitive renewable energy is utilized. For evaluating the characteristics of Ammonia produced in India, high contribution to greenhouse gas reduction, low transportation risk along transportation routes, and contribution to the diversification of energy procurement in Japan should be evaluated economically, and the following five initiatives will accelerate the composition of a Hydrogen value chain between India and Japan: (1) increasing the Indian governmental support for subsidies for Hydrogen production, (2) increasing financial support to lower capital costs, (3) ensuring a business environment to lower uncertainty about future costs, (4) promoting efforts to visualize the value of carbon credits such as JCM, and (5) visualizing the value of diversification of energy procurement sources for Japan. A noteworthy project originating in 2010 is rooted in the pioneering market-based mechanism known as the perform, achieve, and trade (PAT) framework, which predominantly targets industrial energy utilization. Given the substantial role of energy costs within the broader spectrum of total production expenses, it becomes imperative to gauge the profit margin intensity (PMI) within energy-intensive sectors and industries encompassed by the PAT initiative. This entails an exploration of the influence exerted by these sectors on PMI. Consequently, the identification of variables influencing industrial profitability with respect to energy employment becomes pivotal. This article introduces a methodology grounded in panel data analysis, applied to a specific case study involving Indian energy-intensive corporations. The investigation takes into account the impact of both the Energy Conservation Act (ECA) and PAT as dichotomous covariates. Notably, the ambit of PAT encompasses the eight most energy-intensive industries in India, spanning the years 2012 to 2015. Evidently, energy serves as a driving force behind the country's manufacturing costs. The findings of this study underscore a negative correlation between energy costs and profitability. While the overall impact of PAT on industry performance appears limited, the ECA emerges as a potent factor significantly affecting earnings. Moreover, a compelling indirect relationship between energy costs and profitability is discerned, wherein rising revenues correspondingly lead to amplified energy costs. Consequently, the implications drawn from our study are intricately linked to the efficacy of energy utilization regulations within energy-intensive industrial contexts. Green hydrogen is gaining popularity as a clean fuel, and India is one of the countries that is exploring its potential. The paper analyzes the factors contributing to the adoption of green hydrogen in India. The increase in India's carbon emissions and the decline in its environmental quality are a threat to the realization of the global sustainable development goals (SDGs). Minimizing the negative environmental impacts from fossil fuels through analysis of the determinants of India's ecological quality is an important research topic. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT), renewable energy, and structural changes on environmental quality in India. In this context, the study uses the novel Fourier quantile causality test for the period 1995m1-2021m12. The results of the study show that structural changes have no impact on carbon footprint and load capacity factor, while renewable energy and ICT contribute to the improvement of environmental quality. This study addresses the challenge of decarbonizing India's transportation and power sectors, which jointly contribute to around 35% of the nation's emissions. The research introduces a transport model designed to project the growth of EVs within the 2-wheeler (2W) and 4-wheeler passenger (4W) segments, considering different policy scenarios. These scenarios are assessed for their impact on technology adoption, fossil fuel demand, power requirements, and CO2 emissions. Additionally, the study presents a demand model to forecast national electricity demand. The power model is also developed and linked with the transport and demand models to evaluate different fuel mix options for meeting the projected national power demand through 2050. The findings reveal that ambitious policy scenarios can drive EVs to constitute roughly 45% of all 2W and 4W vehicles on Indian roads by 2050, substantially increasing electricity demand to an estimated 295 TWh with a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions within the transport sector. Significantly, the soft linkage between these models underscores the potential for India to meet up to 90% of its national electricity demand through renewable sources like wind, solar, and hydropower. Before mounting a PV system at any location, modeling, simulation, and analysis of solar photovoltaic (PV) generators is a critical phase that helps to understand the behavior and characteristics of the system in real-world climatic conditions. A solar panel, buck–boost converter, separately excited (S.E) DC motor, and controllers, such as Proportional Integral Derivative (PID), Fuzzy, fuzzy based on PID (FPID), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controllers are all included in the proposed system. Because compared to other controllers, the ANN controller produces better results. It was designed to deal with system non-linearity and system-related ambiguity. A country that relies on developing industrialization and GDP requires a lot of energy. Biomass is emerging as one of the possible renewable energy resources that may be used to generate energy. Through the proper channels, such as chemical, biochemical, and thermochemical processes, it can be turned into electricity. In the context of India, the potential sources of biomass can be broken down into agricultural waste, tanning waste, sewage, vegetable waste, food, meat waste, and liquor waste. Each form of biomass energy so extracted has advantages and downsides, so determining which one is best is crucial to reaping the most benefits. The selection of biomass conversion methods is especially significant since it requires a careful study of multiple factors, which can be aided by fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) models. This paper proposes the normal wiggly interval-valued hesitant fuzzy-based decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory model (DEMATEL) and the Preference Ranking Organization METHod for Enrichment of Evaluations II (PROMETHEE) for assessing the problem of determining a workable biomass production technique. The proposed framework is used to assess the production processes under consideration based on parameters such as fuel cost, technical cost, environmental safety, and C O 2 emission levels. Bioethanol has been developed as a viable industrial option due to its low carbon footprint and environmental viability. Furthermore, the superiority of the suggested model is demonstrated by comparing the results to other current methodologies.
