This article reports the first occurrence of Enterobacter cloacae causing leaf spot of chilli pepper (Capsicum annuum) in India. The disease was observed on chilli cv. Pusa Jwala plants, with symptoms including irregular necrotic lesions, chlorotic halos, and defoliation. Bacterial colonies isolated from infected leaf samples were positive for various tests and showed pathogenicity when injected into chilli plants. DNA analysis confirmed the presence of Enterobacter cloacae, and phylogenetic analysis revealed its clustering with strains from India and the Republic of Korea. This finding expands the known host range of Enterobacter cloacae and highlights the need for further research on its impact on plants in India. [Extracted from the article]
